  1. All I can say is the walleye have found their way to powersite, caught 4 in the 21-24 inch range this week. All with water running, and 4 different baits (clown rogue, black/gold/white rc stick, 5 inch Megabass albino Spark shad, and a 5 inch pearl Berkley rib shad). I think if you can find them, they'll eat what ever you put in their face, but they do seem to be roaming as I have yet to catch 2 within a short period of time (under 10 mins)
  2. That might actually swim, and great looking colors. I bought a LC "glide", its got a weird 45 degree joint and swims like crap compared to the R2S S-waver. But that one looks to be a good swimmer, it really hard to mess up a multi jointed bait. Throw that around the beds this spring with a fairly quick retrieve and those bass will smash it out of anger. As for the price, at almost 6 inches, compared to a Spro Bbz1 4 inch "gill", the dollar per inch isn't bad if it swims just as good as the BBZ1
  3. got another 24 inch wally (4.60lbs) tonight, a bit after dark (630). Caught it in the pothole on that 5 inch Berkley rib shad w/ a 1/4 oz. Swimbait jighead
  4. Well with the clear water, a black back on the S-waver, and a dark shadow following the bait, its only safe to assume its a bass.lol
  5. I have, that article refers to about $800 worth of baits (2 baits). The Deps 250 ($350 in flash trout/ Saikobutch tuned) and a Roman-Made Mother ($414 on Tacklewarehouse). These are the types of baits that do require a literal broomstick of a rod to throw them. The article describes how he uses the baits as a search tool. I can testify, anything you throw thats larger than average can draw and pull fish out of cover. I've had bass follow baits upwards of 100 ft and not hit it. I actually used the same technique on Bull Shoals with a S-waver 200 (8inches) to find fish after the clouds dispersed and the topwater bite faded. And it did help narrow down areas where the fish were and where they were not.
  6. And yes, they were generating water, nothing over the top though.
  7. Finally found those pesky walleye. My freezer has been empty of walleye for exactly 6 months (june 7th was my last walleye). They are a pain to find, but I found them up at the pothole. Saturday, the first bite was on the new Megabass Spark shad 5inch, i knew what hit it because it came up short (bit the tail off the bait). rigged a new bait, this time with a #8 treble stinger on a 4 inch braid harness. Made several more casts and switched up to a clown rogue, and i landed the first one,a 21 incher. Threw that rogue and several other colors and jerkbaits (rc stick & x-rap) and again I switched back to throwing the Spark Shad. Luckily I built the stinger harness as a 24 incher, again, attempted to bite at the tail, but the tail bit back. Sunday I did a little running around and checked beaver creek, last weeks rain has the water flowing in the creek, but didn't find anything biting so back to the pothole I went. Had some hits and finally got another 21 incher on a custom painted rc stick(black back/white belly with a hint of gold) All bites and catches were between 3pm and 5:30pm with nothing after dark
  8. Its no different than pre Rapala wiggle warts and Megabass 110's... actually most decent swimbaits are cheaper than pre Rapala wiggle warts. Lol
  9. I may have met the same "jerkbait"guy (was he driving a green jeep Cherokee?) That supposively caught a couple of limits of walleye a couple of weeks ago, with the 2 biggest weighing 7lbs and 10lbs on a black/gold rogue. He was throwing a firetiger color when I was talking to him
  10. Caught a short brown trout after dark at the pothole last weekend, but other than that I haven't caught anything else from swam to the dam in the last couple of weeks
  11. There was 15LBS of guts in mine. You might have just missed the boat on a state record fish...
  12. Thats the size I commonly use. I have a 200 and I started using it more often once the water temp dropped. The 120 sinks too fast and has to be retrieved faster than its bigger brothers.
  13. Awesome, thanks for the report, I know several people waiting for the crappie to start biting
  14. Dtrs5kprs, what size S-waver did you get?
  15. Did it look something like this?
  16. I throw those same baits on 15lbs test, Berkeley big game clear, especially in this crystal clear winter water. I don't trust Flouro because it seems to get brittle in the cold, the mono seems to hold up much better
  17. I went for a little bit this afternoon before dinner. Threw my usual swimbaits but only had curious followers. Managed to get 2 short smallies on an A-rig with white grubs, on back to back cast, slow rolled along a ledge in 20 ft. Needed a little more wind or clouds for the swimbaits to be really effective like last Saturday
  18. One of my favorite videos is "Do you remember your first swimbait fish" where Bill shows a guy what to look for, structure, casting angles, color changing, etc
  19. Went Wednesday after work, had 4 missed fish before a worn rod eye decided to cut my in the middle of a cast and lost the BBZ1Jr slow sink. Today went out by poverty point, tried a few different things but they wanted the S-waver 200 today. The 2 biggest were smallies, 20 and 19.5 inch, I weighed the 20 and it was just short of 4lbs. Another black bass trifecta too, 2 Kentucky's (16.5 inch each), a 18 inch largemouth, andthen the ppreviously mentioned smallmouth. Had several hits and misses too
  20. And I actually catch most of my fish in less than 10ft of water most of the time
  21. My friend Kevin held this 18lbs 1oz. LM caught in Southern California, on a large white streamer/fly rod. So its not impossible, but your more likely to see a big bass with a swimbait
  22. I beg to differ with that statement because the S-wavers especially are very very slow sinking baits. Add a split ring to the line tie of either the S-waver or BBZ1 baits and the baits come to life with the slightest input. You can slow roll the bbz1 baits as slow as you can tolerate. The s-wavers do require a slight nudge to induce their gliding action, after that they can usually be retrieved fairly slow
  23. Sorry to hear about that Plug. Stringer, I use Berkley big game mono clear 15lbs test for the BBZ1Jr and s-waver 168, I use same line but in 20lbs test for the bbz1 8inch and s-waver 200. Fishnwrench, were you talking about the flies or the swimbaits on that last sentence?
  24. Why the hell do you need anything other than a flare gun on the boat? Expecting pirates on Table Rock?
  25. The cold snap may have helped my swimbait bite.lol
