I get the evil eye from my wife every time I mention spoonbilling. went by myself 6 years ago (age 54 at time) and wrestled 3 of the critters alone (1 a little short). that night I had untypical pains in my chest but went away. next night same pain. next morning I had more different symptoms took some asprin and drove myself to the doctor on my way to work. wasnt long before i was in the cath lab getting stints. all is good now except for the evil eye. the nice part of the story is that after week out of the hospital I spent my mornings recovering in the turkey woods and the afternoons catching spawning crappie on stockton. best vacation of my life.

buddy and I put in about noon at hermitage ramp to target crappie. (trying to get the jump on shockley for the tourney saturday) well that plan didnt work. Headed up the lindley trying some brush piles and spawning coves. nothing. water temp started out at 55ish and got warmer the farther up we went. did catch a nice 4lb catfish on a jig and ultralight. was fun. ended up in bailey cove. and finally found 3 just legal crappie caught on whited tube skirt with silver glitter body and red tip. water temp in bailey was 61. water color starting out was very stained to muddy with 1 ft visiblity. water color got better the farther up but the vis was still the same. we noticed a guy hanging around outside of bailey for a long time so we tried the spot on out way out. bingo. well not crappie but we got into the white bass on a swallow gravel area. the fish werent big but it sure was fun..we caught over 30 before we had to call it quits and put 11 in the well. come join the crappie tourney on sat. you will never fish with a better bunch of guys and gals that are so laid back and just come to have fun.

I have a humminbird 345c down imaging locator for sale. unit works perfectly. I just upgraded to a gps unit so selling this one. I still have the box and all the mounting hardware and all the paperwork including the sales receipt. unit is not quite 3 years old. I gave $209.00 for it at the bps outlet store plus $30.00 for the trolling motor mount. the transom mount was never used. I want $100.00 cash firm for it. i crappie fish and the unit worked excellent for me. as a matter of fact I was surprised how well it worked for a cheaper unit. I dont do pictures on here but i can text you some if you let me know. thanks Stacey Carter

Ok I cheated. havent made it to the lake for a couple of weeks but did manage a good trip the other day. my 96 year old mother (and no that does not make me old. Im the baby) is in a rest home about 100 miles north of here. my sisters home is built at a strip pit near there so I kill 2 birds with one stone. full of crappie bass and catfish. some days they bite some days they dont. this day they did! I took a few minnows with me and they loved them but they were hitting jigs too as long as they werent chatruse which was odd because that it usually the color of chose. I only fished 2.5 hours and caught a lot of small fish but then it seemed like the big ones started coming in. ended up with a very nice mess of keepers up to 14 inches. fished directly under a dock and zeroed in on them at 10 foot deep. I bought a jigging rap at bps like they use ice fishing . thought that would work good under the dock and it did till I got hung up in the brush and lost it. good thing they were hitting other jigs. had to quit so i could clean fish before it got dark.

beautiful day on the lake. started finding crappie on the bottom in shallow brush piles. go figure. anyway the bite was very very very light about 1 to 2 foot off the bottom. minnows only. they would not look at a jig today. we only brought home 13 and only threw back 2 shorts all day but most of the keepers were very nice fat slabs up to 12.5 inches. except for a small bass tourney we hardly saw a boat on the water. how nice.

crappie luck? yep. on pomme. limited out on saturday. slow but got it done.

finally had a good day. got on the water about 830 started fishing brush piles. caught 3 dinks right away . moved on to the next pile. no bites. moved over to another one that I told my buddy that I never catch any at this one but was made a liar. I put 9 keepers in the well and only tossed back a couple of dinks. caught a few little bass there too. all caught on minnows with chart nibbles even bit on dead minnows. the bite was very light but very rapid. meaning they would rob my minnows before I could set the hook. my buddy could not hook one. moved on to some more piles with no luck then found an old reliable pile that finished out my limit. again on minnows but did pick up a few on a jig of silver glitter body and chart tail. all fish were about 7 feet deep. very beautiful day on the water. makes me sick that I will be on vacation out of state the next 2 weekends and not fishing here. ps just fished the lindley arm. quit about 4pm. good luck everyone

not much to talk about but will report anyway. buddy and I went to cedar ridge saturday and started at maze creek then started hitting several brush piles with no luck. ended up picking up 4 keepers and 3 shorts after 6 hours. used minnows and jigs. no luck on jigs. went again on monday to CC to try some deep trees that we always had luck on this time of the year but nothing. went into a cove and fished around some stumps in 9 fow and started catching them 5 feet deep. some keepers and shorts. thought we had found the secret and try all over that area with no luck. went back to that spot and picked up a couple more then moved to a tree area next to a bluff and found a hot spot next to the bluff where we caught around 20 in all in one little spot. still 5 foot deep mostly on minnows with chart. nibbles. ended up with 12 keepers for the day. not hardly any boats in the area at cc on monday. good luck

from boat ramp etiquette to parenting and not one fish caught. go figure..

was on the lindley arm today and to my surprise there was not hardly any floating debris. we were crappie fishing and fished from hermitage ramp to past haverstick above nemo. water was good near the dam and became more stained the farther up we went but I would never say that it got muddy where we went. besides getting hot we could never find any fish. I had one keeper in six hours. that was the only fish caught. talked to one tournament bass fisher that only had 2 fish. wasnt expecting much to come in at the weigh in.

there is a very nice Lowe (2013 i think) sitting in front of carlson pet clinic at sunshine and campbell in springfield.

brother and i fished from 7 am to 330 pm saturday. put in at hermitage and worked our way up the lindley to L8 above nemo. would catch one or two at each stop but very very slow. used jigs and minnows and caught on both. chartruese with silver glitter body seemed to be the best color. water color was surprisingly good that far up the river and not a lot of debris. we only had 7 keepers with 6 females 4 of which were full of eggs the other 2 had spawned out. not much of a breeze so it got hot in the afternoon. good luck
