  1. I have never been a fan. Prices are usually 15-20% higher than their competition (what is left of them anyway.) I have seen the same thing in Springfield. Seems like they only ever have two lanes open. The place is always packed, it's more of a tourist trap than anything now.
  2. It's just a single. Hoping that I can talk the boss into a twin for next year, this one is barely big enough. We've got more than enough tractor.
  3. Yeah, its been a wet one. Been running this rig for 4 years, never been stuck with it before, sunk to the frame last week.
  4. They do. The donor motor was a long shaft, with a really flat prop, from a pontoon I imagine. I bought it in KC, a lot of lakes up there have a 10hp restriction. Unfortunately I sold the motor last spring. I'll have to dig around, but I don't think I have any photos with the cowl off.
  5. It really depends on the motor. I convertered a 9.8 Merc to electric start pretty cheaply. Found a donor identical ES motor on CL for 150 bucks. Cheap because it didn't run and had no title. Swapped all the parts over in an afternoon. On that motor it was easy, it retained the recoil, you just bolt up the starter and swap over the electrical parts. On the 25 Johnson that I just sold, it was more complicated, because it did not retain the recoil, so you had to purchase a starter bracket and cowl along with the other required parts. As for tilt and trim, I have no idea.
  6. I just called the office in Stockton. They can take a credit card over the phone and mail it to you.
  7. I didn't do much better. Was running short on time, decided to go to Crabtree. Got there around 4. Did not see a crappie on the graph until about 5:45. Then it was on, 3 casts, 3 fish, they were gone again after about 10 minutes. Still, was nice to catch a fish, been almost a month. Main lake brush, 30 ft deep in 42 fow. 38*. Lots of boats out today.
  8. Might try putting in at Mutton this week. Been pretty dang tough on the main lake.
  9. Good to know, that's what I figured. Is there a lot of timber down there, or just shallow?
  10. Was thinking about making the run in my boat a couple weeks ago, and I measured the distance with google maps.
  11. About 20, but yeah, a ride for sure. I thought the same thing about CC after I first joined.
  12. Same deal at BPS, they do it every year around this time. Now's a good time to stock up on flickers, won't be long and we'll be putting them to work.
  13. I'm pretty much a one trick pony when it comes to walleyes, about the only way I can get them in the boat is pulling flickers in the summer. But, that is only productive when the water temp gets above 70, from mid-May to October. I have caught them on crappie jigs, and casting cranks, but never with any consistency. A lot of guys do really well with jigs and crawlers, as well as bottom bouncers in the warmer months. This time of year, spooning is supposed to work pretty good, and we're getting into jerk bait season now.
  14. I got a question for those that know a little about the walleye spawn. What makes a "good" spawning area? I've heard people say that they will go back into Creek arms, and also that they will go to the dam. Is it just a matter of bottom substrate (the rubble on the dam)? On an unrelated note, is this the old quarry that I've heard about? Thought it was strange that it has steep cliff banks, but the whole area is relatively shallow.
  15. Think it's still a little early yet. I'm eagerly waiting too.
  16. Just my opinion, a standard bar on the lower unit has the most leverage on the motor, and therefore provides the best support.
  17. I have never been much of a swimmer. I think I'm one of the few that are not naturally buoyant. I'm 5'8" and 250lbs, with only 15-20lbs of fat. I can swim for a little ways, but usually end up on the bottom. An inflatable vest was a lifesaver for me. Fits easily over my jacket in the winter, and is not terribly uncomfortable in the summer. West Marine usually has them on sale now and then.
  18. Yeah, I think these green carp guys get a little stir crazy when they haven't thrown a topwater in a while.
  19. This thread has taken a very strange segue... One that I sure wasn't expecting. Thanks all for the advice. Not even sure if I'll be getting this motor, I'll know more in a few days.
  20. Well, I hate to spend 600 dollars on the motor and then have to drop another 200+ on batteries. I understand that it's pretty trivial in the world of boats, but my budget is stretched already, it's not just a matter of me being cheap. I can't imagine that my battery has degraded that much in a year, I don't think I've ever discharged it more than 50%, since my trips are usually pretty short.
  21. Looks like I may have a chance to upgrade trolling motors. Unfortunately the new one is 24 volt. I run a single group 29 battery now, it's a little over a year old and is in good shape. Am I asking for trouble by buying a single new battery connecting it to my old one in series?
  22. I've wanted to do this. Might give it a shot tomorrow. Do you search for any kind of structure (channel swings, points, etc.), or do you just find the shad and go from there?
  23. Did it look the same when you were traveling faster? When at a standstill or drifting very slowly like you were anything will just show up as horizontal lines. Best thing to do is turn around and make another pass at idle speed.
  24. First of 2019 was a drum, no picture. Redeemed myself after with a mess of crappie from Pomme.
  25. It's still swimming, came down with the flu on Monday, and have been super busy at work. Thinking I'm over the hump now, might make it out this weekend.
