    Cast iron

There is no comparison between old Lodge and new Lodge. I was fortunate with this find.
  3. You guys' wives must be amateurs. When mine gets on me I'll do anything - even work - to make it stop.
  4. When all you have to do is show a screenshot and hooks are no longer part of the deal.
  5. Kind of like what happened to the '49'ers. Talent will out.

    Cast iron

I'm going to fry a big ole deer burger in it tonight. It really did clean up easy and I think it looks like a good user! I hope this doesn't turn into another one of those things for me. I can tell it might get bad. Want to see a picture of your pre WWI and maybe pre 1900 skillet once you have it ready. Makes me think of those really old pics that the family still has of my great and great-great grands. No telling what stories a piece of cookware from those days could tell. Lean times, good times who knows? But something worth hearing for certain.

    Cast iron

I bought a # 8 Lodge cast iron skillet this morning at an estate sale. Has a heat ring with three notches and numeral 8 cast in the bottom at 12 o'clock and a smaller numeral 0 directly above the 8. I think it's from the 1950's. Very good condition, $15.00. Didn't even dicker. It was a fun sale and glad we got there early. Got some other cool stuff too.
  8. My daughter 100%. My son 0%. Talk about different outcomes from the same parents in the same household.
  9. I thought that was oneshot. But sometimes its hard to tell the difference so you might be right.
  10. Have you tried Viagra?
  11. I'll have what she's having. Skin that one pilgrim, and I'll bring you another one. Who are those guys?
  12. I've been there enough times to pick others ahead of it too. The purists are all ate up naturally reproducing trout. Which is a coolness factor I have to admit. You'll never find me there on a summer weekend though. Last time we did that with family it was not pleasant. At all. Pretty much true of most rivers these days though. Sadly.
  13. I have two Patriarchs. The thing I noticed most about them is the weight. They are noticeably lighter than the Presidents and smoother operating. They are my two favorite spinning reels. To me at least, worth the money. I gave up on Shimano spinning reels several years ago so cannot speak to the Stradic you're considering.
  14. You've got everything you need except a boat.
  15. Once a year? Once???? Sad emoji is not enough.

    What's Cooking?

The one thing I will add is do it on a hot stone (450+) unless you have a real pizza oven.

I prefer a yard bird when it comes to nakie chickee choop choop. Better flavor and usually more tender.
  18. NFOW is a great river. Good fishing and its pretty too. An awesome trip. But. The Eleven Point is even better on all counts. I agree with wrench on doing one or the other. They'll both accommodate a two day trip with less total hassles and more river time. Good luck no matter what the deal turns out to be.
  19. Brian Sloss is Mister Eleven Point. For information, shuttle, boats and local lodging that's just great.
  20. He had something else going on to be able to retire at 53. That or exceptionally low living requirements.
  21. I was thinking more or less of the enterpeneur types. 30 years framing houses won't get you far either. Unless you're the guy bidding the jobs, buying the material and running a few framing crews while swinging a hammer too. Same way with running over the road trucks or any of a nearly limitless world of opportunities for someone with ambition. Drawing a paycheck will keep you beholden to the man. Professions requiring an advanced education are another game altogether.
  22. George Clooney was the only one to stay "unaffiliated". What a great movie.
  23. Perfect example of the old adage about how it takes money to make money. Sounds like he had a model figured out and worked it. That's really the key to making it. Figure something out and stay with it for the long haul. Smart guy he was.
  24. O Brother Where Art Thou?
  25. I was going to mention that I have that same shirt. 😎
