  1. Yea Montana was a good one, but not the franchise QB to really build on. Dawson came with them from Dallas. The only OB they ever drafted that had great credentials was Blackledge, who had better stats then Marino from the same class. Levy just wouldn't take the time to let him develop and kept the offense on a run run schedule.
  2. Snow? We didn't get a flake here, a touch of sleet and then lotsa rain.
  3. It's hard to tell what they'll do. I don't see Smith as a franchise QB. He has great stats against weaker defensive lines, but he falls off against better ones and they are all good ones in the pros. I like Landry. He has outstanding accuracy and I think his faults can be cured. There's no doubt he can panic, but he tends to do that early in the season and that to me is a sign that he can get rid of that tendency. I do agree it's a year late, but unfortunately they've needed a QB for years and it's hard to tell what Pioli will do. He is the guy that brought in a college back up QB and payed him as if he had won the Heisman. I thought Pioli should go for that very reason.
  4. I suppose every area is different. I see a lot more crossing the road around here then smashed ones, even on busy roads. Snakes, unfortunately, do not get the same respect. I avoid hitting either if possible. Ticks on the hand are a scourge that I hate, especially seed ticks.
  5. The lakes in that part of OK were stocked. It might be interesting to know what stock they used. Only the lakes in the far esst section had links to native fish and they were smaller varieties.
  6. There have always been some smallies on the lower end. It did take the Kentucky's a while to get there, or so it seemed.
  7. I would "find" a bill of sale, age by the serial, and call the county agent and see if you can meet him somewhere.
  8. Smalliebig his fish was lean, but not as much as most. It wasn't as long as the one in the picture I'm thinking, but maybe close in weight. If we're looking for trout eating bass, upper Bull Shoals would probably be the best candidate. The stripers have already found the trout.
  9. My son caught one in that size range not far from Indian Point. He caught his in 15-18' of water on a jig.
  10. I would check in with Fishinwrench. He knows LOZ as well as anyone.
  11. I think it will most likely be Stockton or TR. Norfolk or Bull Shoals could be sleepers because the also have the smallmouth friendly environment. LOZ doesn't seem to have the population in spite of the fact it's the oldest. It's hard to say though because we are working with river fish and I don't believe they have the genes to get real large.
  12. I worked in the industry for several years and my opinion is that boat manufacturers are just like car makers. All cars have to pass safety test and so do boats. Tracker, Lowe, G3, etc are the Ford and Chevy of the industry. I would look at the features and not get too hung up on any popular brand because they all hold up well and retail tends to be prorated among them. There is one minor difference that might matter to you regarding a pontoon, Lowe puts foam in there pontoons and Tracker doesn't as far as I know. At least the didn't when I was involved.
  13. My advice, don't get too hung up on perfect appearance.
  14. I don't believe any of these mental cases intent on mass murder have ever attacked a place that they didn't feel was gun free. Schools at the very least need to be secure against unauthorized entry by anyone bent on harm. The latest was only secure against anyone entering undetected. Once again though the emphasis is on one venue and not about the act. We seem to be able to stop terrorist attacks by a large diverse group, but not domestic attacks by a small identifiable group. We'll do better when we get a way from preconceived misguided "laws" and concentrate on how to identify threats no matter where they intend to attack or how.
  15. Trout come up as far as 160, but it is probably too skinny this year. There is good access for a good length above the highway on the west side.
  16. I rode a troop train from Lackland AFB to Denver. It was quite an experience. Most of the GI's were army on the way to Fort Carson, with quite a few airmen going to Lowry AFB.
  17. No kidding. When the RR's were important they did run on time. My grandpa was ticket master at KC for many yaers and I know back then being on time was important. I have no idea what it's like today, but I wish I could still jump on a sleeper and go on a long trip in comfort.
  18. We know we can't stop nuts and we should know that glass doors can't be locked, but all the powers that be want to talk about is guns. The security at this school was locked glass doors, good to keep most out, but not someone bent on entering. I don't understand what has happened to the common sense that used to be so prevalent. We put 4 security people on duty at an embassy in a country without a secure central government and full of American hating groups. We lock down schools with doors designed to deter hones law abiding people. Our government can spread assault weapons a stones throw from our border and then wants to insure that we have no defense when they return. It's not just the obvious nuts.
  19. You mean those old things that arrived on time rain or shine?
  20. Where do they get the water to refill the lakes? If we're going to have real renewable energy that works full time they had better dam the river up.
  21. I know of the spring you're talking about, but have never seen it personally. While it is apparently noticeable, I don't recall it being described as doubling the Fork. It is a wintering hole I'm told. The land in that area is closely guarded and I'm not sure if that land is in that category however.
  22. It has been exceptionally low the last couple of years. When there is water people often launch at Walnut Shade and take out at Rockaway Beach. It is a long paddle through Taneycomo however, but not trip killer. The fish in this part of the country seem to abandon the creeks that get low in the winter for the comfort of the lakes where possible. Mid to late spring they return like salmon.
  23. I can't disagree Chief, but I think it depends on whether the fish are used to it or not. Some of the streams around me will get pretty thin in spite of rain and the fish seem to know when to retreat.
  24. Like many things there are plus and minus effects. I think the two short term negative effects are predation and water temps. Our streams are no longer capable of handling these, as in the past, because of the influx of gravel.
