  1. What a monster. They might have had to release it. The NW states have slot limits and BC might also.
  2. It would help if one could see the other pictures, and maybe knew the guys knowledge level. Who knows, the author of the story might have picked the only picture that had some resemblance to a lion.
  3. I think it's hard to call it a bobcat from the picture. It looks like a lion to me, but only because the ears and the body length appears more lion. It's hard to know if it doesn't have a long tail, or if you can't see the long tail?
  4. Well once again we got all the sound effects, but only a brief shower. We saw fronts split all through the spring and now this one was solid, except for the section that passed over NW Taney county. Would have liked to have had more, but I'll take anything we can get.
  5. The Lowe boat was designed from a Gasconade wooden jon. They also made some copies of the old Grumman Sport boat for a short time I was told, but never saw one. This was when Carl and Dianne Lowe owned the company.
  6. This is the one I remembered. Turns out it was hard to find. http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-08-16-steamboat-emerges_x.htm
  7. As far as I know Lowe made a run of Paddle Jon in the mid 80's and that was the last. Shortly after OMC went belly up and Lowe went with them for the time being. The P-Jons were 17' long with a 32" bottom.
  8. There are a lot of tablets available now that don't cause a bad taste. I have some in my gear that I've only used once, but I didn't notice any after taste. You can also carry coffee filters and bleach, get the recipe off the net. I don't remember the amount added or the time involved.
  9. I believe there was an old riverboat exposed a few years ago not far from STL on the Missouri. Don't remember when.
  10. I would stick with the river, it's not that much of a drive from Truman. Either way eventually you'll go through LOZ.
  11. For the Niangua it would be how it has filled in with gravel in so many areas.
  12. That depends on the cap and small motor caps normally wouldn't cause you any harm. The proper handling of a cap is to put a screwdriver across the terminals, carefully .
  13. Absolutely right on. Squirrels are especially bad about biting tomatoes when there is a water shortage.
  14. I hope you're right in your forecast, but the radar isn't very encouraging at the present time.
  15. I think most of it goes back to the DNR and their worry about money. The DNR always seems more interested in the money side of protection, if it doesn't cost them or make them money their interest is more lackadaisical then pro active. Everyone should remember it's the DNR and not the MDC pulling the strings at BSSP.
  16. stlfisher, Saturday morning on the Niangua is a circus, and I'm sure others will agree. Much of the problem with the river, IMO, is the number of people who drag a rod along and maybe catch a fish. Take that times several 100 every weekend and then ad in several hundred more walking through the shoals to insure that no aquatic insects can survive and you have formula that just isn't conducive for growing anything in any viable numbers.
  17. Very interesting, thanks. Greasy B, if the bridge is "well over 100 years old" and still on the piers built on wood, I would say they did pretty good at the time. You can't fault the completed bridge because a temporary section collapsed. Sounds like like the higher ups were in too much of a hurry to brag.
  18. I think that while the odds of being killed have diminished since I was in, but the stress of never knowing your status has changed considerably. Far from what would normally be considered a danger zone can be an IED that has no warning. The guys today have more mental stress than the average did decades ago.
  19. That's interesting. Rainbows have been spread around for so long it's hard to realize that their natural area is much smaller than the cutthroat's area. Some scientists believe the Atlantic salmon moved to the West coasts and that is the origin of the steelhead which in turn evolved into the rainbow. the rainbow is only native to pacific drainage and the cutthroat is native to both sides of the divide.
  20. Congratulations buddy. Hopefully another fishing and paddling partner.
  21. I think many wild animals are gravitating toward foods with moisture in them just to get a drink. Congrats on relocation.
  22. I hope they are right smallieb, but we really need to get back to normal rainfall as a minimum. The drought really started last year and they generally last awhile, but we can hope this is a short one as they go. Our weather patterns are heavily influenced by the Pacific and the El Nina and Nino. Here's some more bad news. http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions//multi_season/13_seasonal_outlooks/color/churchill.php
  23. Yeah we don't usually get a trial and conviction by one person, especially one who administered an investigation agency, but not active for many years. It's another case where people who aren't in nor have never been in a situation want to judge it. Running a major college football team is more than a full time job and really doesn't allow time do jobs that fall under others responsibility. The NCAA hands down opinions which historically have punished the innocent. As far as Colorado goes, no sane person does what he does. I've always heard that a death penalty is more expensive due to appeals. I would think in this day and age the courts could speed up the process where there is overwhelming DNA evidence and make the penalty was it was intended to be, a deterrent. Prison time is unlikely as much punishment as some believe. If you've ever been in the military you know you get used to 24 hour direction and restriction, prisoners here don't even have that, just restriction.
  24. I think Mic might have the best idea, at least he's getting his string pulled.
  25. I hope he realizes that he's in a state where people are scared to death of them.
