  1. It's hard to be critical of the Michigan venture given that it was to replace a fish gone extinct and to control a couple an unwanted invasive. The difference between a length and girth measue and weighing shouldn't be that inprtant to the average sportsman.Killing a fish to simply weight it doesn really seem realistic.
  2. Catfish Connection makes some good ones called Thangs, BPS has them. I don't think a strong river is agood place for dip or punch baits. Any piece of fish will probably out fish them.
  3. Nice. The pfd is somewhat mandatory in late fall and winter. I also belive that a pair of neoprenes, cheap is fine, with some fire starting equiptment in the pocket and a tight belt is also. It doesn't hurt to wear a wool shirt either. Hypothermia is unbelievably quick and debilitating.
  4. I'll still take that to 6 overnight random shootings reported in STL or a stroll down Prospect, Troost, The Paseo or Cherry in good ole KC.
  5. Yes.
  6. First thing, the common carp is no more invasive that the ringneck peasant or the brown trout and you could throw in the Michigan chinook and the brook and smallmouth in the west if you were so inclined . Actually you could throw in the rainbow in Missour. It doesn't always revolve around world numbers because any time You remove a native population and create a vacumn you change the balance and that can be a negative. One of the bigger problems is the nations with blinders that see the need for more restrictions, but belive they are the exception. Japan is very good at it. The tuna ships won't ever stop, they have huge investments to capitalize.
  7. Probably the tradtional no #1 insurance for the "fish dinner".
  8. You mean the giant catfish in front of Bagnell in the 50's are gone!
  9. I think it takes some clear thinking, but that's pretty easy. I'm out wading a lot more when alone, I simply avoid anything that might remotely put me where I need help. A strainer that is a little tight will likely see me walking passed, but no loss, fish it. I think PFD's on our rivers can get you in just about as much trouble as they can keep you out. Like AL said cold temps make them mandatory because you can't swim in cold water like in warm. People limited in swiming ability should always where one. They are more likely to get you into an obstruction than not however.
  10. Learn to tie that hair rig, buy a bag of deer corn or field corn. boil some until they center is soft. Find some shallow water a scatter a quart of it, a sling shot works good, use 3 or 4 pieces of the corn on the hair and wait for them to come to you, they will even hook themselves. To really make this effective try scattering the chum the evening before and hitting it early the next morning, morning and evening will also work. This is pretty much sure fire.

Surely you aren't implying that Jerry has anything to do with that.
  12. Not really. It's always a matter of finding them and getting their attention. Cat's tend prefer a little movement in the water so I would make sure I fish when the dams were open. They love cut bait, then stink (Sonny's or Super 7 are two good ones), livers of course. Three poles is a no-no, doesn't bother the cats, but will upset the warden, try 3. I think once you lacate an area that can produce it will come down to what the want that day. I'm sure there are some good areas on Fellows, but I doubt antone will reveal them. The James has a healthy population, but again you have fimd am access that isn't a busy intersection. If you have a craft of some sort I would paddle away from the access and fish some deeper water with some brush in it.
  13. And yet they find a place in the middle of nowhere and can find the best baits?

I saw some of his Show and Tell and franly he looked lost and behind in the pass defense drills. Playing in the SEC he was never more than a little above average. He was often a factor, but it was against college linemen. To be a real prospect a college defensive lineman has to own the opposition linemen, with the exception of the outstanding ones and he has to hold his own there. Sam never really dominated, just beat them more often then many others.
  15. I disagree. KU hasn't put any effort into reviatlizing their program since the fat man left. I think they are making a better effort now, but they still don't seem dedicated to it. You can't call the truth bullying. Now if I said the BB team wore skirts, well?
  16. I think Hogwally got it right. There aren't a lot of bluegills because they aren't really a river fish, that's what longears and goggle eye are for. As far as crappoe go it's the same thing, there are a lot things missing in river pools that thay like. No one stocks fish in rivers as a rule, at least not non natives, river fish don't need competition.
  17. I think you were supose to press 2, or maybe 3, for English.
  18. Sounds memorable. It seems that June is a good time for a long trip on the Buffalo. No gurantee, but a good chnace of having water and stable weather.
  19. It sounded like it rained here pretty hard for a shart period and wind preceded it, but since it has been off and on. We need all we can get, the trees are dropping leaves, a sure sign of drought.
  20. No! It would be a bad thing for Mizzou now that KU doesen't play real football anymore.

That or they might move him to the practice squad to extend his availability. The reality is that no one expected him to make it, nothing is liekly going to change in size or speed and those were his perceived negatives..
  22. The most popular rig in OK on Texoma was a Babe Oreno or a small Lucky 13 with the front hook removed and 12"-16" piece of mono with a white jig on it. Generally both were white.
  23. I don't see a lot of thrill in a SkiDoo either, or sking in a nice controlled area inside the wakes, but? I suspect that guy died of a blood clot, not unheard of in bad breaks. A lot of damage in the area and just not ebnough time to dissolve all of them.
  24. I think I've had my best luck but dropping some something silver in front of them and just letting fall. It does need be somethimg slow. My secon choice is the Shallow Shad Rap run close to them. I think anything that barly breaks the surface and looks fishy can work.
