  1. Brown cock would work, pick a bad one with some web.
  2. I suspect that anytime you have a hatchery close the chance of an unscheduled stocking is great. An equipment failure, water shortage or food supply could probably trigger an undocumented stocking.
  3. Redbands have a very distinctive coloration and I haven't seen that on Crane. I don't think it matters, if they hatch and mature in the creek they're wild.
  4. I would think that a petition demanding that they give true protection would be the first move. They can't use the livestock protection excuse, the experience in the Western States would override that theory.
  5. I've had a JS for about 20 years and I don't have any complaints. If the new models aren't all remote, I would get one that is. They are worth the money.
  6. Zeke the fish you're talking about are smolts, the last phase before a mature trout. Steelhead do the same thing only larger. The markings that cover a 4" bow will be the same on a 6" steelhead while the 6" trout will be very close, if not completely, marked like an adult. While I haven't seen a tremendous number of Crane Creek bows, I've never seen one with any color like a redband.
  7. Swan creek and Beaver creek can be iffy at best, but there is good access at the pot hole on both sides if the lake isn't high. The COE park at Kissee Mills is always accessible, but the opportunity isn't always first class.
  8. I never hunted chukars, but I've seen many and fished a lot of the canyons they inhabit, it's not for the out of shape.
  9. In my experience in low water only 30% to 50% are snagged.
  10. The striper bonanza generally happens in high water. I suppose if the population is changing so might the fishing, but i haven't heard of any being caught during normal years. If they are they're avoiding the rumor mill.
  11. Non-resident children 15 and under do not need a fishing license. As far as I know however there is no exemption for the trout tag or stamp.
  12. I don't know if it will help you or not, but Powersite is a 1 megawatt dam and can't take more than one Table Rock unit running. What the often appear to do is come to the dam when TR starts running, but before the water reaches the dam. when they do that they can run longer than what one would expect before water comes over the dam. I don't believe there is any demand on Powersite and they just use what TR runs to add to the grid. I think the best fishing is often when they are running water through the turbine and none is topping the dam. I don't know what effect the high water will have this year, but given the length of time it was up I doubt there will be many trout below this year. That is based on a pure guess though.
  13. Are you talking about generation or the flow over the dam?
  14. Justin do you still have your resident stripers?
  15. Not everyone needs a fishing permit, but you do need a trout tag to keep fish or fish the winter season and a daily tag to fish within the parks boundaries.
  16. I suppose the theory is that given the fact we don't have any "pure" trout waters and there is no harvest to support it wouldn't really be morally right.
  17. I haven't been down there to take a look, but could they be some type of support for the construction? I guess I wondering if they are holding the plates up until the bladders are activated?
  18. He was right if you told him you were fishing outside the park.
  19. EHC= elk hair caddis. It's probably the best know of the caddis dries. Sometimes if the fish are fed a constant diet of floaters a spinner will fool them The best arsenal will always be matching the hatch and that can often be done by simply tying dries with a tail, body and sparse hackle in the right colors and sizes. You should probably do some research on the common creatures that haunt your waters and then match them with flies. Throwing something that looks good is fun, but not always effective.
  20. Have you gone beyond the Griffiths Gnat and EHC? I've had some success both here and in the west on an H & L Variant also. The Renegade might be another to look at because I always seem to do better on still water with drys of many legs.
  21. Nice job. RR has changed a lot over the decades and it's nice to see some good maps.
  22. That maintenance house is awful close to the overlook and it would probably make it too risky for even some of the idiots around here.
  23. Except for the 20 year reference I agree with all of that.
  24. Very interesting. I assume control will be through what appears to be air bladders?
  25. That's exactly right. Too bad that with the economy what it is they don't cash in on all those boats, generators and stadium lights out there for the picking.
