  1. Not sure Joe, have you done Bryant and the Osage Fork? The St Francis, 11 Point and the AR portion of the Kings should probably be on your list if you haven't done them.
  2. While certainly not expert advice, but what I would consider is a small light auto battery. I doubt for the use you intend you would wear it down from charging all that often, especially with a small trickle charger. I doubt you will get a trolling motor out of the first speed pushing something as light and efficient as a kayak, so a large capacity shouldn't be needed. I have Tarpon 12 SIT that I considered putting a Minn Kota on. I intended to use the scupper holes as a mount using PVC and placing the battery in the front compartment. I was going to place brass bolts through the bulkhead behind the seat, sealed of course and attach the clamps to them for power. The lines would run inside to the front compartment. Unfortunately I never followed through with it so it was only a plan. I also intended to shorten the shaft on the motor. I don't think this wouldn't be too difficult, but I haven't tried.
  3. Not belittle the enormity of it. but I wonder what they base that on? I can think of one that probably rivaled it at least. I'm not sure I can remember a Missouri tornado with the death toll that this one will sadly probably end up with. My DIL's aunt was visiting at the hospital when it hit. In the short conversation she had with her the message was one of chaos in flying debris.
  4. There are a couple of fantastic day trips on the John Day also that can produce 50 to 100 smallies. Service Creek to Twickenham which has a few class ll is worthy up until July. Twickenham to Clarno is another. It has a sometimes class lll and is more remote than the first. Both of these have guides working them and are one day floats at around 13 miles or so. If you like smallies, wild rainbows and steelhead, a trip to central Oregon is worth the trip. The Deschutes river also offers short to long remote floats with rapids to class lV. Rainbows are always available and the steelhead in late summer. The lower 32 miles is a no access float through canyons with wild bighorns on the sides.
  5. In many parts of Missouri the Green Sunfish is known as the Black Perch. I've heard green sunfish called black perch all my life and in fact didn't learn they were green perch until I was an adult. I have heard people call them bluegill, but generally by people who seldom fish and make a guess at what they are.
  6. In that area I would want to know about the water supply and also make sure the termite inspection is reliable. If it has a basement make sure it doesn't include a wet weather spring.
  7. Kelly's invitation would certainly be something to consider. Does he do Redfish? I know he's not all that far from the gulf. I suppose if it ever recovers your home state might be a source also.
  8. I haven't been to Ozark in awhile, but the park used to have good access. There's also the Springfield lake tailwater.
  9. I've seen pictures of rigs on SIT kayaks. The basic set up was using PVC pipe inserted in the drain holes and a 2x4 mount. I think the weight of the battery would be the biggest issue, especially when it came to where to place it. What could be another problem would be speed control. A canoe wants to travel to fast to fish and a kayak would probably be worse. If the unit was for travel only the low draw compared to speed would probably be an advantage in choosing a battery.
  10. It was last year. Looks like it still is. Missouri Smallmouth Alliance I suspect you can buy the guide at the Conservation Center book store.
  11. This place does a good business. Duck Harbor The public ramp is right there, but I believe these people give you a stall. Slider in 9 years I've never seen a grabber or a boat there, but I have seen a lot of grabbers at the Bull Creek bridge.
  12. Mine would include redfish on the Texas coast, from a kayak of course. A trip on the lower Deschutes in Oregon, which I have done, for the white water, the wild redbands, and the summer steelhead would be a worthy trip. The lower John Day river for smallmouth is another worthy trip, 32 miles of smallies and canyons. I had several buddies who did the boundary waters and I always intended to, I regret not doing it.
  13. Speaking of Bull Creek I saw a boat, with motor, at the Walnut Shade bridge the other day. I've never seen a boat up there till now.
  14. You think you'll miss the river?
  15. Did it block the river?
  16. Why is it in this country someone can make a film that stretches the truth, or ignore it, and it's taken as gospel? When did keeping an open mind and researching all the available data before making up our minds become extinct? Frankly Friday The 13TH scared the bejeebus out of me. Natural gas at $1.40 a gallon, delivered by a pipeline rather than a tanker, that goes up instead of down if leaked, and that doesn't need next weeks terorist to pump it looks like something we should be absolutely sure is more destructive than our present energy options before we buy the first negative, so-called, documentary. Why is it that dioxin and white toilet paper is fine, but water, sand and salt, for the most part is kin to arsenic?
  17. Many of them have been through it before, but the ones that thought it looked like easy money will be hurtin'.
  18. The same could apply to Beaver. I haven't seen Swan, but Bull was normal before this storm moved in.
  19. LOOK OUT! The storm today is headed over the Niangua watershed.
  20. My take on lures is pretty simple. For topwater it's a Sammy and the color is dictated by the light. I f I fish the midwater it's generally with a Baby Lucky 13 or a shallow Shad Rap, but in the fall i go to an Xrap or a Pointer. Most of my fishing is with my Jigs. My jigs are 5/16th, tied with bucktail with plastic highlights. From there its a crapshoot that depends on my mood. If I could figure a way to keep smallies from swallowing tubes I would use them more, but I haven't so I don't.
  21. Anchor Steam is about my limit of hops. IPA's are too hoped up for me.
  22. It's hardly news, we have been loving our outdoor jewels to death for decades. Anytime you designate an area as unique there will be people who must own and build as close as they can get. I first visited Table Rock in '62 and last in'10, if I didn't know better I wouldn't know I was on the same lake. I could point out some others, but I'm sure everyone who has a history in this state have personal stories of over loved outdoor treasures. You can't eliminate the feds as one of the culprits either.
  23. Is 6X by fee or permission?
  24. I don't understand how that happens. I've seen whites grabbed also and I don't see any other explanation than it's deliberate. I've seen Spoonbill snagged below Truman including my own, but the word there was to release them without taking them from the water. I suspect this whole incident concerns the picture taking and how long the fish were out of the water. Obviously there is a difference of opinion, but the agent has the ticket book. plexlove might beat it with a witness or two addressing the "taking" issue, but entrapment or the opinion of a judge from another state will never fly.
  25. Another option is to add dried cranberries and/or raisins and a little sugar. I think it does best with a dark beer, such as Shiner Bock, but I generally make it with ginger ale or in a pinch a lemon lime soda.
