  1. I'm sure he wasn't the first person the patrolmen had handcuffed and hauled in. There has to be something different here. Does anyone know what kind of life vest was used?
  2. I would 3rd Danna's. If you on Indian you would probably want to go to the one in Branson West. It's south of 76 on old 13, on the right.
  3. I think the gravel bar is the best bet. I haven't been caught often, but when I did I tried to get on a gravel bar and sit down and stay low. Lightening is going to the best ground and that's the water. The rocks give you some insulation if you're in the path, at least in theory and that's all you got. Lighting often kills cows and horses that have taken shelter under trees and are 10' from the tree.
  4. JD we have more longears in the White basin then bluegills or black perch I believe. Their color is far too bright, IMO, to fade away in a hybrid. The problem with trying to ID a hybrid is that you never know what generation it is. Once you get past the original and throw in some variations from water and environment it all gets muddled. These fish just aren't that different from any other bluegill and small differences aren't uncommon.
  5. Probably just bluegills showing a local pattern.
  6. I'm not sure what they are, but they both look the same to me and lack the coloring of the longear.
  7. I came across this article this morning and in reading it I saw where these people had gotten some financial help in acquiring the greenhouse. Further down it mentions that Missouri is in the top 5 in this obscure program. http://news.yahoo.com/high-tunnels-extend-alaskas-growing-season-143531284.html
  8. I have read that you want a balance in order to avoid wild yeasts from fermenting it. That's the reason they say it is a good idea to change it every 7-10 days. Does anyone remember the old cafe in Roaring River? They had an overhang down both sides that had feeders about 3 or 4 feet apart and the hummingbirds were thicker than I've ever seen. BilletHead you're getting close.
  9. Permetherin is what I use in my garden and it's natural, chrysanthemums, but I would hope the stuff yoiu put on you doesn't stink like the garden spray.
  10. I can tell you that ticks are a lot more common then they were 50, 40 or 50 years ago. I have no idea why, but they used to be confined to wooded areas mostly and you seldom got them out of grassy areas. Now they're everywhere. I suspect it might be related to the increase in deer. We put down an insecticide on the areas where we spend a lot of time and a a swath around the perimeter of the yard and woods to catch travelers. When we do this in the spring we generally don't see ticks after the middle of June. If you really want to get rid of them get chickens and let them roam free.
  11. I've used 4-1 also and I think that is what is recommended. I bring mine to a boil and let it cool and change it every week. Ants are a problem here, and I imagine lots of places. They get into the feeder and drown. Petroleum jelly helps, just grease the hangar every so often.
  12. We can never seem to get more then a couple. Once in awhile we get another male in and the all h--l breaks loose.
  13. They probably need some educating on how to launch and trailer. There's no reason for anyone to use ramp space to get a boat ready. If the winch won't hold the boat until you launch or get back to the parking area, they need a new winch.
  14. The warmouth in simple terms is a goggle eye/ Ozark bass cousin that likes slow water. I believe most of the natural ones in Missouri are in the southeast.
  15. I was thinking maybe a longear? I suppose the fin margins might be a clue also, but I'm that sure which fish displays them. I think the Green sunnie does, but maybe it's no exclusive to them. I thought the flap and what looks to be some blue on the body might point to the longear. Then there is always the fact that it could be a second or third generation hybrid to muddy the water.
  16. I've always been particular about my casting reels. I went from the Abu's to Diawa Z's and Shimano 100B's. The Diawa is a better reel for me throwing the heavier stuff, but the little Shimano's shine with the light stuff on the right rod. I have no patience with a reel that backlashes, none. I've picked up a couple of other brands over the years and they just didn't Pan out.
  17. That does look like it might be a hybrid. Longear/Green, aka black perch mix?
  18. They were a copy, at least most of it, of the Creme Shimmy Babe or Gal. I think the Shimmy Babe was the better worm than the Scoundrel over all and I think both date back to the 50's. I was fishing them in the mid 60's. The Shimmy babe and Gal were real soft and bass would really chem on them. The worm business in this part of the country exploded in the early 60's and everybody and his brother was making them. There were a lot of shops selling bulk worms by the piece.
  19. I wonder if it could have been a special order for Bass Pro. Is it push button or thumb bar? I'm like you, I have a real soft spot for the old Abu's. Never cared that much for the newer models, but I haven't had a lot of experience with them either. Wouldn't mind seeing the right side. The level wind is certainly standard Abu.
  20. There used to be pick your own farms around the KC area 50 years ago. I don't hear of any now and I wonder why. Do they still exist?
  21. Nice fly and presentation.
  22. I noticed it only has 2 side plate screws. That might give a hint to what it is. I'm pretty certain all my round reels have 3.
  23. We always caught a lot of gills and goggle eye on drop shot rigs. Might be something worth trying.
