  1. We did it in early July and saw 2 fisherman a little after Rush and the no one until just above the White. "No designated campground", yup, but more gravel bars than you can count.
  2. We met some people one time from Mtn. Home who told us they had a yearly family fish fry using flatheads from the lower Buffalo.
  3. I don't know, I've never eaten a crappy crappie down here.
  4. You might also look into the lower Buffalo, Rush to the White. You'll have lots of camping room and solitude.
  5. I spent most of my youth in north Missouri and we always had lots of snow, but it never got cold unless you broke through the ice. I don't know how cold it got, but we would build fires on creek ice sometimes when the ice got thick enough.
  6. No one can know that at this point in time. It doesn't get a lot of wave action from wind or boats. Given the forecast you could probably expect frozen spots on it. We got about 2 or 3" in the area and most of it is still here.
  7. There's no thrill like driving 76 or 160 when they slick and snow covered. If you can't find a slick long curvy road with a steep grade, you aren't trying hard enough. It's also hard find a guard rail.
  8. The last one looks good. I would do them all like that with hint of chartreuse, blue or yellow. I would make it a transparent overlay on the back.
  9. I retie some. I really like marabou and even though it can tend to tangle it doesn't seem to hurt hookups and it still gives some action.
  10. J-Doc they swear by it in the NW. My old Missouri roots would not let me use it, but I saw people catch fish using. It apparently doesn't turn the salmonoids off.
  11. I have no doubt that ranger is a fine boat, but I would caution anyone to be careful about buying more boat then they need. You can spend a lot of money to avoid minor nuisances that would be better spent on gas for fishing. There hasn't been a big demand for "Cadillac" AL boats in the past because it's hard to compete with glass if you go too deep. Lund has been the "Buick" of AL for years, but their popularity has been primarily in the North. The Lowe's, Trackers, and many others have been all but worn out on southern waters without any major problems. I still stick with the "Buy a well known brand that has the features and the layout you like". I would put a lot more into picking the motor brand then the boat brand under those circumstances.
  12. Mitch I can honestly tell you that in the 4 years I was associated with Lowe, we didn't use a hammer to fit anything other then on occasion to insure a good fit on carpeted hatch covers. They did use soft hammers on them sometimes because of the carpet. You can't hammer fit aluminum becasue customers don't like hammer marks on their boats. You should hear the beat down over a rivet gun slip. That's a small circle, or heaven forbid two. What you probably saw was soft hammers being used to seat extrusions, like gunwales, etc. J-Doc the Pad hulls are stable on turns, they don't need the keels, striations to you, because of the bite the pad gives. Most glass BB's today have a pad hull and they've been around since the 70's. You also don't normally need a gasket for a hatch, and that isn't just Lowe.
  13. Crappiefisherman you might try the slough at Empire park also. You could launch and use the electric and not have to fight the wind too much. I don't know any details other than they were catching some there right before the North Pole blew in.
  14. In my hunting days I've seen 3 coyotes that were almost black, and they weren't in the same states. I've seen some that had a red shade also, but I can't think of any that were predominantly brown. very, very few that looked like they could go more than 45# and most are probably 25-35#
  15. I don't know Mitch, we were using CAD CAM plasma cutters at Lowe in the 80's? The new vacuum hulls should be a big improvement on hull design allowing AL to adopt some of the features in glass. I always thought we were chasing new technology when I was involved. At that time OMC was the mother ship.
  16. LRF I wonder if you still have some red wolf hybrids around, I've shot my share of coyotes and I would say a really big dog coyote at 50, maybe 55 pounds. I saw hybrid in Laclede county about 30 years ago that still had a lot of the red wolf in him from color and size. I had a 60# Husky and he was close in size. Coyotes are notorious for hunting pets.
  17. A little water doesn't hurt real fishing boats. I fished a tournament on Eufaula in Ok back in the 70's and late in the afternoon I noticed the boat getting pretty low in the water, no automatic bilge, and it turned out it had a lot of water in it. I ran the bilge and an hour later it was getting high again. After failing to find a reason we left early and I pulled out. Later I found out I had split the hull along one of the stringers on a big wave at the start.
  18. OK you made me look, now tell me what it says? One thing we taught pilots in the AF was to just use the post of a revolver and aim a little low. If they were 1911 fans to use the edge of the slide. This is fast and effective up to about 5 yards and when it comes to bad guys they are one big X ring.
  19. JD the only concern I have is that he apparently wasn't sure what it was. I wouldn't call coyotes majestic. They are at odds with nature when ever we create any vacuum. We are about the only thing they won't attack and when that kind of predator becomes over populated everybody loses.
  20. Obviously wolves could survive here, but I think what Al is say and I agree is that the food supply is intermingled with livestock too closely. There's no way the could survive in harmony with farmers and ranchers. Cats have an affinity for deer and that will probably keep them from becoming a big threat to agriculture, but I believe a wolf pack would go after cattle long before they would a deer.
  21. glad to hear you had a nice trip. The great thing about Taney is that the water temperature keeps the fish active hot or cold.
  22. A barrel of spring water would be a free 50+ degree radiator.
  23. Sorry JD, but you might as well add in all the things that could also look like a deer. Livestock, horse, dog, man, if there was a mistake, that's all the facts one needs. I agree MOPanfisher.
