I don't think they grow as fast as trout. I know that the few I caught in waters with both they ran about 2/3rds the size of the 'bows. I don't know if it is a characteristic of Brook trout, but in a couple of lakes that had large populations they got really tight mouthed in the fall and I believe they were in spawning mode at the time. There would be large schools of them in the shallows and they would even look at a fly?

I think you are right and they do get used to it. The trick is to fish the breaks, early or late. I know that's easier to say then do and it does cut back on the time fishing is allowed.

Hah! If I knew that I would be sitting on my own island with a servant cleaning my fishing equipment and... never mind. My wild guess is mild here. We haven't had anything but for years now and aside from a colder spring and slightly milder summer, I don't see a change in my crystal ball. I do have to point out though that my crystal ball has a bad crack in it.

If you referring to the commercial ones, they work great, but cost too much if you use several rods and fish for many species. The hand furled leaders are cheap and work almost as well for me. I have to point out my experience is using one hybrid #8 mono and no experimenting beyond. Obviously using one line to build them makes them hard to fit 3 weights and 9 weights and be great.

Yeah that was the hype, funny though it took a dropped Harley to bring all this out. I don't care so don't get excited. If you have something concerning OU that might be a whole new ball game though.

Our approach was "We will be glad to pay you to park our rig here" the response was generally, after the details of why and when, "Whats it worth to you?" or something like that. $10 for doing nothing generally worked for us.

They have the same limitations that trout do, maybe more. I'm not sure what their spawning requirements are, but they seem to thrive in colder waters. By "they" I mean char. If they put them in the trout parks in November they will supply fishermen a new opportunity through the winter and then a meal for someone in March.

I'm not familiar with the area, but in the past at other areas we have approached people close by and offered $10 if we could leave the vehicle there. My fishing buddy and I did this a half dozen times and aside from the walk to retrieve, it was painless.

The last time I had campers on the same bar in a later conversation it was "We always camp on this bar". Maybe that was what you ran into, habit.

There was a lure called the Paul Bunyon Lucky 66, I believe that was the name, that always did well. It was basically a shaft with a spinner blade and a weight with a bucktail treble following. They could be fished deeper like a safety pin spinner, but were inline. I always did well on smallies with the cheaper copies, when I was much younger. I didn't use the original too often because of financial reasons

In my opinion if they have already spent funds growing them then they should release them. They aren't in any danger of adding a non-native species. If I had any say in it they would release them in the winter fishing parks so that more could have the opportunity to say they caught one. I've caught a few brookies and, well they are trout, no more no less. Kind of like the Cutts, fun to add a new species to the bucket list, but don't expect exotic.

I'm under the impression that no money was involved and if that's true and it's was about morals, then yes, I don't think they should have fired him, Punished yes, fire no. They, AU, have an obligation, IMO, to give the athletes a chance to excel because that is what they promised when they came to the university.

No, Castle wasn't written to protect real estate. It was a law giving one the legal right to protect themselves and their possession, not just inside the shelter, but anywhere on their land, with deadly force, without facing charges of no permit or worse. It basically did away with the old saying " Pull them inside before the police arrive". I don't think the defense will push any property rights other than the fact that he had a right to be armed under the Castle law. His real defense will probably be self defense. He's very unlikely to convince a jury that he had a need to kill someone to keep them from peeing on his land or to protect gravel bar. He already can likely prove he owns the gravel bar, but he can't restrict access if it's below the normal high water mark. He has to prove he had a reason to use the gun he was legally allowed to carry on his property. If the defense can't shake up the witnesses and show some hint that their stories don't match I think he's toast.

I was simply saying that Arkansas had trouble besting Texas, but they did the best job of any of the teams. The problem was if you didn't win that conference you generally didn't have any wins in your column that would take you anywhere. Arkansas knew that to have quality wins you have to play some quality teams. The Big 8 at the time always had 3 or 4 good teams, but the SW seldom had more then 2 and AR was often one of them. AR should have been a little more tolerant in how a coach lives his private life. He is after all coaching men, not kids. The fans will determine any rivalry and they will do that when they fill the opponents stands year after year. I can tell you for a fact that half of OU's season is played in TX against TU. They have to win that one to have a successful season, irregardless of the won lost record before and after..

Well i don't see him getting anywhere with the Castle Defense. He has to come up with a defense and this is probably his only chance, if he has one. The first thing is what is property and I don't think that land will make the list. It's hard to damage and near impossible to steal under the theory of people stopping on it. They could load it it up and leave. peeing on a wild wooded area open to wildlife isn't going to inflict damage so he's left with protecting himself. I don't see him getting away with shooting to kill and I don't think it will pass the intent of the law. In the end it will still be up to the jury though. Under the Castle Defense it still has to be proven that his property was in danger, not his mobile property, but real property and that is going to be tough. It was also reported that he said he probably should have just left and called the sheriff. If that's true, then he admits he knew he had an option.

The problem with that theory for arachnids is that the scorpions were in the Warsaw area and eastern OK 50-60 years ago, the 'Dillos were still in south TX 35 years ago. I was surprised to see some armadillo road kill north of the river. I guess they either swim the river or run the bridges at night?

Quite the story Mitch. It's easy for us to forget what we have and whine over what we don't have while other parts of the world would be glad to get what we throw out. I haven't been to Mexico in a long long time, but while they, the rural people in the NE part, didn't seem to have hunger issues the material level was far far below ours. I really don't know if that was a problem for them though.

Rivalries are built by fans, not conference affiliation. and are usually between schools that are close. Missouri's big rivalry was KU and it worked because they played each other every year, both states had alumni close. OU has a big rivalry with TU because they play each other every year on what is billed as a neutral site, because they are both close to their fans and the game has always been important. When OU and NU played every year and were both contenders it was a big rivalry, but when NU fell off for awhile the game lost its luster. AR had a big rivalry with A&M when they were perennial second place finishers in the conference, which made the game important every year. There were stretches though, when AR was competitive, when TU was the main attraction for the Razorbacks. AR left the conference though because it wasn't competitive and started its demise. I'm sure MU will probably build a semi rivalry, but it will never match the one with KU because the elements just won't be there.

The problem with using just anything for a tippet is that not all tippet is equal. As a rule you want a stiffer tippet with dries and more supple material with wets for trout. That's why brand can be important. Like Wrench I don't think the invisibility makes a difference. They lack of stretch when compared to mono could make a difference to some and I do believe it weakens in extreme cold, either side of 30 in my experience. Size is probably the most important element in tippet selection when fishing for harassed trout.

Are these bullheads? If they are you won't find ant that aren't fatty and off tasting in this part of the country.

Would Like To Learn How To Fly Fish But.......
Wayne SW/MO replied to Mitch f's topic in General Angling Discussion
I don't know, they always seemed to do it for you when I fished with you. Maybe you were just wanting to put me in my place. -
River can always be more dangerous after high water.

Yeah, Harry didn't tell anybody the Enola Gay was coming.

It's funny what you get on a large forum like this when you put "first" in the title. I haven't even gotten around to trying some of the later one listed. To address Mitch's post "I bet we would be amazed regarding what constitues a bait becoming your confidence bait. I bet one memorable fish is all it takes!", that wouldn't be what I considered a confidence bait. Mine would have to be the one that I would generally start with, or the one I would go to if the reported hot bait failed.

Buttermilk soak will take a lot of any strong fishy taste. I'm kind of like Wrench though, I don't want to kill it. I'm sure you know it's illegal to fry catfish in anything but a yellow corn/flour/s&p mixture or to eat it without hush puppies made from the same breading mixture and onions?
