  1. I've spent a lot of time around the 160 bridge and two previous post are pretty much dead on. I think a few are also being caught just before daylight. I don't think the run has really started, don't know why? Everything points to it being on and it will likely materialize all at once. The most consistant spot is around the east side of the bridge, easy to get to, almost impossible for some like me to get out of.
  2. I haven't caught a carp that didn't put up a good fight. While there initial run isn't anything like a steelheads, I've heard it's not unlike a bonefish.
  3. How about a strip of .035 laid along the top of the shank? By top I mean oppoaite the bend.
  4. If you fish some of the old sloughs and creek mouths below the 65 bridge you won't have to worry about current. Between the tailwater and the 65 bridge the current isn't real bad near the banks, but it will depend on the day. There's no current in the old channel, but it's to busy to bass fish in my opinion.
  5. It's not a bait Oneshot, but a sure hooking rig to put your "secret" bait on. Nothing fancy, just a way of rugging.
  6. I'll bet he got your heart pumping.
  7. Good, I'm getting to old for the rocks on the ferry side.
  8. I'm not much of a fan of nest fishing on rivers, but if I did I would throw a lizard.
  9. That's what I grew up with. Oneshot if you want to catch some carp google the Hair Rig and tie some up, they work great.
  10. Part of the problem, maybe all of it, is that with hakf the fllod gates down and water coming over the other half the current is crazy. There are more seams then you can keep track of If you plan on going I would take some time and study the water, if you're fishing from the bank, from avove where you can see. That way you won't find yourself fighting some current you don't want. I think boat fishing might be tougher, but if you can find eddy's there should be some fish in them.
  11. Why aren't you going to Truman Oneshot?
  12. The fishing does seem to be spotty, especially the whites. I think the main wave hasn't come yet and the schools that are coming cause good reporrts, but they are spotty.
  13. There was some brush in the mouth and I don't if it has washed out is just covered. It was right in the middle.
  14. That's probably why he was fishing below it.
  15. Is the water over the walking area on that side?
  16. If you're talking rivers you're probably fine as you are. If you want to add a rod then go up to a medium, but the brand will depend on hoe fat your billfold is. I think the Berkley lightening is probably the best value in the low cost rods. I don't know why you're having a problem with 2 piece rods, I've never had that problem and I've had a few. if they are wearing at the ferrules it might be that they are picking up grit from somewhere or just the brand. Regular Ugly sticks are fine for the very casual fishermen, especialy if he's hard on equiptment, but aside from that they suck. The glass tip doesn't match the rest of the rods action and they are heavy from all the glass added to make them tough, and they are tough. If you're going to spend more I think thier are better rods at BPS in their brands.
  17. I have 2 kayaks , but I ain't paddling from where you can launch to the hollow. There's also a pretty good current going right now.
  18. You can't get there, unless you have a duck of course.
  19. Yes, it is hiway Y. I can't speak to the fishing, but the whites should be up there. They were catching a few at Beaver creek today. It's another 7(?) miles on 160. Fish under the bridge.
  20. I heard they're going to have a lottery drawing for the first rock. Just kidding, good luck.
  21. Well that was a big disapointment. I've known Charley 30+ years and never saw him actually fish in Missouri, guess I still haven't.
  22. A few good lures. I would be happy with a few zoom worms and some skirted jigs, plus a Sammy. I carry a little more and use it, but not to the extent I use the preceding lures.
  23. Creeks and rivers in the Ozarks don't stay colored enough to hurt fishing for very long. If it's still a little high and slightly off color the fishing will likely be better.
  24. Eureka Timberline if you're not going to carry it. Probably the most popular tent going considering how long it's been around. I've had mine in all kinds of weather and never a problem. Goes up easy also.
  25. You don't need anymore then what you can rub from your finger. Don't over do the connections, snug is the level and then check once after a few casts to make sure none have loosened.
