  1. And none of you mentioned Eisenhower?? I spent 13 years in central OR and didn't go to the coast often, I did enjoy it when I could. You'll miss it. I didn't like the cold of central OR and missed the kids and Missouri, but it was fun while I was there.
  2. Yeah I think the problem with the committee picked is hey will always be open to criticism and bias. The reason for the new format is to try and eliminate fan suspicions about bias from coaches and writers, so to overcome that they just upgrade to people likely to have the same bias and prejudice, duh!!! There is no evidence that any coaches or writers showed any bias, but there were always matches and gas cans visible.
  3. Sounds like a great plan to me! I don't think there is anyway Mizzou can get to NC now. The Auburn game killed it most likely. While it appeared to help Mizzou, it hurt them I believe for one simple reason, Alabama and the polls. I just don't know if voters will treat Mizzou like they did Auburn and jump them over AL? I would not be surprised to see AL vs FSU if O(H)SU struggles and Mizzou gets a solid win. I don't agree with it, but wouldn't be surprised.
  4. He will be torn, poor guy, do I support MS for Eli and I, or bow to number one son and go with TN! F&F while I don't disagree that your idea would work better also, but a basketball coach?? I think your list might be partially in the same vein as the AD's for some, Elway and Montana to be exact. I do think a committee of pro coaches, as you suggest, and long gone from college affiliation would work also. The bottom line is the new setup just jumped from the frying pan into the fire in my IMO. At best the AD's will be guaranteed tie breakers and at worse openly bias toward school or conference. The conference bias is without meaning because every school in a conference shares in bowl proceeds.
  5. I wish that were true, but it isn't. Far too many people assume only trout are protected and some don't care. And the area you waded isn't protected, so no safety there.. The giggers are a problem on that river and that is why the fish coming to the spring branch need protection, they're the seed.
  6. You're right, and that's the sorry part of the bowl scene. Mizzou should be playing AL, Clemson, OK State, someone within range in the final polls. The same goes all the way down the list.
  7. They also has Dorthy and Toto.
  8. We will actually have an 8 team playoff next year, after a division elimination for most.
  9. Sounds like you will be a candidate for the striper/wiper fishing in Kansas. It probably won't be like steelhead, but close to bay and big river salmon, even salmon in the salt.
  10. I had a Lowe center console boat for several years and it would be a good one for an all around, but I'm not sure anyone makes that kind of CC anymore. Mine had a front deck wired for a TM and a pedestal base. The rear had a pedestal base on the floor. I don't know that it would be real friendly for two, but it worked OK for me and I used it for everything from bass to salmon to crabbing.
  11. The problem is you are wrong in many of your assumptions F&F. First off I don't believe that the facts support the theory that players go where they think they will end up in the NFL. They go for a lot reasons, and few go for that and that is why many NFL players come from small colleges and some from high school. They want to start 4 years first if possible. As far as mixing mediocre teams, happens all the time. I'll play my broken record, several computer programs based on nothing but strength of schedule. No team coming in at the last of the season with an outstanding record beating poor teams. No conference bias, no team bias, no money bias. College football does not need to mimic pro ball, we don't need a baseball like training camp, it's already close enough. I want amateurs to play amateurs and pros to play pros, I have both now and that's fine with me. We already, or will have a 4 tier playoff for most and that's enough. The NC game will feature teams that have played in 3 elimination games in all likelyhood, that's plenty for college players.
  12. I think the 4 team is realistic, but again not the set up of the "committee". I don't mind Rice as much as I do the clear conflict of interest of the athletic directors! I realize they made some effort to spread it around, but that will not stop favoritism, or even come close. I think they should have selected FCS people to make the selection. There would be little to no conflict and you would have real football savvy people making the decision.
  13. I'm more concerned with the other BCS bowls and how some teams will be screwed, IMO. I can't really swallow Mizzou and OK State, at this point, playing UCF and NIU in BCS bowls. Their, the two latter, march through minor teams hasn't impressed anyone. They're both hovering around the same area as LSU and OK, both of whom worked a lot harder to be where they're at, but have no chance, rightly so, of playing in a BCS bowl. It just doesn't work when two top teams end up playing teams they will be expected to run over, yet they may end up losing to teams who have practiced all year for a big game without giving any hint of all of their plays. I'm gla the present BCS is leaving, but I'm not confident in the new because like so many things we get saddled with, they fix one obvious problem and leave three almost as bad untouched.
  14. Yeah he just thinks it was crowded before. And I should point out that it isn't patroled very well and many believe they have stumbled into a Mrs Grotons free store.
  15. Ed Elersic, another friend and Me were guided down the PM many many years ago by Jim. He was a great guide for us.
  16. Now you know that ain't true. The farther you get from the top the more options. If the poll today was only undefeated teams, we might, I repeat, we might have a game. I still contend that in the absence of anyway to separate all the teams perfectly, a set of computer programs based on nothing but strength of schedule with a tie breaker based on something solid, like points between a teams scores and the opposition. You can't put man in the equation and have a fair and unbiased result. When the new committee takes over it will eventually run into a conflict of interest and then the house will fall. They should have gone with a committee of FCS athletic directors to start with, but the didn't, they had to have some with an interest involved for the sake of controversy I suppose.
  17. Can't argue with that snap.
  18. Me 3! That is a possibility Blazerman. OK State would be a candidate, but the facts surrounding Mizzou's loss would give them a big edge, plus neither team represents a big influential state, so an even evaluation. That would leave the state of Alabama mad as all get out though.
  19. Probably the Orange. And they should play in a major bowl. And pigs can fly. It's hard to speculate when conference line are crossed and history is just that, history. I think that is what they got out of the 6 legitimate championships that count. You can't count the one because neither team played OK State to prove they were superior, so that leaves it in the conjecture category. Your argument crumbles when 2011 is added in, 21-0. Zip?
  20. Well squirrel and mushroom hunting take time in one spot so 8 1/2 miles with very little current would be a rough row to hoe.
  21. They should be. The only way I could see them coming back would be losses by FSU and OSU and , well???? AL got there extra day when they got to play LSU for the title. Lets face it, one out of two doesn't make you a champion. The game should have been between LSU and Okla State. The unbiased computer rankings had it that way.
  22. If OSU loses and and Mizzou beats Auburn, can they break the love affair with AL?
  23. Maybe, that was for a tie. Unless one of the present leaders stumbles Mizzou and Auburn will probably be left playing someone who has nothing to lose and everything to gain. With NIU, UCF and whoever waiting to crowd out a team that has battled in a big conference it looks bleak for a lot of good teams. The big worry is that after the smoke clears from the SEC championship game, AL will catch a good opponent in the Orange and AU and MO will get so so bowls. The big one will obviously be the unbeaten, if 2 exist. OSU still has to play a very good MI State team and Duke can beat FSU if they run into injuries.
  24. I agree that Auburn is probably a better match for Mizzou. I wouldn't say lucky though, after all it was tied at the 1 second mark. One advantage that Mizzou has, IMO, is that Mizzou didn't play a real good game, but Auburn pulled out all the stops and exposed their game book it appeared. Unfortunately due to the lack of ties, OSU is still without a downing mark. I suspect that if there was a tie, as there should be because it is a result, MI would have kicked and OSU and MIzzou would be tied.
