Hey guys, Just a heads up. Dick's sporting goods has a pretty good clearance going on right now. Any fishing gear that is on sale ending in .97 or . 93 is on Clearance for an additional 50% off. Went by the one in St. Louis and picked up a new Shimano Citica that was on sale for $99.97, so with the additional 50% off my new Shimano only cost me 50 bucks. They also had a bunch of plastics, lures, rods, all kinds of stuff. I got the last Citica they had so I'm not sure on inventory levels.

http://www.basspro.com/Thomas-Spinning-Lures-Buoyant-Spoons/product/104191/ I really liked the Gold Red- 6 , Watermelon -17 , Black Nickel -18, Gold - 5 , Rainbow Trout - 15. I don't think you can go wrong with any of those.

Thomas* buoyant spoon. - These are pretty killer. I don't have much experience trout fishing, but I spent a few days this spring in Branson with the inlaws so I hit up taneycomo in the mornings. These things are awesome. You can use a light spinning set up on these and it will work just fine. Cast upstream and retrieve it back to you jerking it as you bring it home. I had no trouble limiting out.

This Just Falls Under Very Cool

Yeah, Have you visited the OCEARCH site before? You can see all the sharks they track and their recent locations. It's very cool. http://www.ocearch.com/ -
No wiping, just drinking.

Well... Night 1 - took 2 benadryls and put on some cream. That lasted about 1hr. Woke up every 2hrs or so in the middle of the night. These bites are EVERYWHERE. Night 2 - 2 Benadryls, bleach wipe, cool shower. Woke up once or twice in the middle of the night. Night 3 - 2 Benadryls, bleach wipe down, 4 beers - Perfect nights sleep.

So I went out fishing this weekend and now I look like I have chicken pox from all the chigger bites I got from walking along the bank. Does anyone have any home remedies that helps stop the itch. I used to use this stuff called Fels Naptha - it was an old lundry soap, and that would help stop the itch, but I haven't been able to find a bar. I was just seeing if anyone had any other solutions that have helped in the past.

That would mean I don't post a lot.

You don't come here often do you?

It was a good story, but I think the writer tried to do a little too much. The story itself has enough merit on its own, I thought he embellished it a little bit.
-
I think he is aware of that. All he was saying is that he caught 9 walleye - 3 of which were over 18 in., but the other 6 were not. All the fished ranged from 15- 21 inches.

The Use Of The Word "fisherman" Is Now Deemed To Be Sexist

The problem with all of this is people are trying to legislate fairness, in a world that is not fair. I figured you old timers would have realized that by now. -

"Us little guys" c'mon, are you saying the guys driving the beemers and walking around in Italian suits and their trophy wives in Mercede's SUVs who make the mall a second home are spending less on clothing and food and other items than yourself. . The things these people buy cost more money and therefore generate more revenue. I guess you could make and argument for culmlative purchases of an ecomnomic subsegment, but I still have a hard time believing these people are outspent. -

my bad... -
Mizzou had a hard enough time in the Big 12. They aren't going anywhere in the SEC.

Yeah, you can fish in any of the lakes or streams as long as it is not marked otherwise. I typically just focus on Jefferson Lake b/c i have seen some big bass in there and have caught a decent amount. Like stlfisher mentioned, you can see them in the spring when the get on their beds. Toons of coontail and green sludge, but its still fun to fish. They were absolutely annihilating the spook and frog today. One of them knocked my spook probably about 3 feet into the air. they must have been stalking the bluegill beds, it was like a feeding frenzy. It was a really fun day.

The Art Of Eliminating Unproductive Water
jpb2187 replied to Mitch f's topic in General Angling Discussion
My $0.02 on google maps/ aerial images... I like google maps for overhead aerial picture detail, but Bing maps also has pretty good aerial images. They have a mode called "Birds Eye View" that lets you change the angle of the map. This allows you to look at 1 spot from either N, S, E, or W. They also have these images from different times of the year so you might be surprised what you find. The view from the N may be from Spring, but the view from the S could be a winter picture. I think it gives you some options google maps doesn't have and sometimes can reveal a better view of an area. -
x2 The most important thing you can do at an entry level job is have a good attitude and be willing to take on more work. If you have good mangers/bosses they will see this and you will be rewarded. Reps will also see this. Too many times people complain about having a "bad job" and don't make it anywhere, its very rare that you get a good job without busting your a$$. On a side note BPS or Cabela's would be great just for the discount you would probably get on merchandise as well.

That frog picture is awesome.

Cool, I'm in Crestwood. I went out to Des Peres in March maybe, but haven't been back since. I didn't really see anyhting then, but it was also still pretty cold.

What part of Saint Louis are you in? If you are north/west, I would try out Queeny Park, or Busch Wildlife depending on how far out you are. South, I would try the Fabick Park in Fenton- Preslar Lake is decent for a public pond. My personal favorite would be Forest Park's Jefferson Lake - There are some decent sized bass in there for you, and you can get your son on some panfish that can be pretty easily seen from shore. Tilles is ok, but I think Forest Park is much better. - - caught these on Saturday Welcome to the forum.
-
Yeah it can be a tough place to fish at times.
-
I typically make a run out to Forest Park everyday on my lunch break, but this past week has been brutal. It was hot, there were a lot of people there, and the fish were not biting. I think i caught one dink all week and missed a few. I decided to wake up early and make a trip out this morning. Woke up about 5:15 and was at the park by about 5:45. The fish were nailing the topwater. I have three main areas I focus on at Forest Park that typically produce fish for me. One is a section of the lake where there is a split in the coontail that grows all over the lake. They are typically about 1-2 feet submerged underwater. I was focusing on the windblown side of the opening in the weeds. The other is along the cattails on one section of the shoreline. The last is another break in the weeds that drops off to the deepest section of the pond. I was fishing a Kinami Jay Walker. I also tried an Arbogast buzz plug but the fish weren't interested in that or the senko or the soft jerkbait. The topwater was the ticket. I fished it on a pretty steady retrieve basically two "walks" and a quick pause.

The only issue with Saint Louis area lakes/ponds is the pressure. The fish are there, they are just a little gun shy. The two lakes in Fabick Park in Fenton (Preslar and ???) might be a decent place to take them. I've caught a decent amount of fish out of there. All pretty small, but fish none the less. You could also try Forest Park. I typically go there everyday on my lunch break. Again, gets a lot of pressure, but you could see all the panfish on the beds right now so you could probably get a couple to bite for the kids. I'm typically bass fishing so I can't say I have much expertise. They do think they can fit their mouth around my bass lures though! http://mdc4.mdc.mo.gov/applications/moatlas/AreaSummaryPage.aspx?txtAreaID=4901 This has MDC recommendations for which lakes to fish at Bush. http://www.anglerweb.com/fishing_spots/august-a-busch-conservation-areas Here's a little more in depth lake breakdown.
