  1. Mercers days are numbered, he is getting plain silly. Have you watched his fishing show FACTS OF FISHING? Everything is Dude or freak of nature.
  2. Good read, thanks for posting the article Dave. I had forgotten most of the time frames and who invented what type of jig. These guys were cutting edge with their creativity.
  3. Great detailed report. Making memories with your son, can't beat it!
  4. Thanks for the report on the upper end. Based on your information and my fishing this past weekend some fish are slowly moving into pre-spawn locations. It seems to me the K's are really turning on.
  5. When I see fish on the graph either suspended or on the bottom I will either use a spoon or drop shot. If there are trees below, the drop shot is less likely to get stuck. I keep the drop shot rod rigged and on the deck most of the time. I fish it with a small EWG hook tex-sposed plastic since most of the fish located are in or above the trees, as this set up doesn't hang up as much as an open hook. I don't like the technique much (kind of boring), but it does work on deep fish. The fish I caught Sunday were around a huge shad ball just out from a deep dock.
  6. After reading my previous post it sounds like catching 12 bass Sunday wasn't a very good day. I was interrupted while typing and would like to state that I would take that kind of day anytime. Seeing the cloud cover Sunday had my expectations running high.
  7. Very nice of you to provide a visual of the Eagle Rock launch site QB. I see it quite often when driving over the Hwy 86 bridge, but have never put in there. Really looking forward to fishing the upper end and especially visiting with everyone. Thanks for all you've done to make this happen!
  8. Congrats on a good day. Warmer weather is here, it sure was great to be out on the water this past weekend!
  9. Thanks for the report. I didn't catch many either, fished the KC area Saturday and Sunday. Managed 6 Saturday with only 1 keep and 12 Sunday with about 5keeps. One LM and the rest K's. The shallow bite both days was not good, but I found some decent K's on the drop shot in 45' over 60' right in the middle of a major creek. The few that were shallow were in about 15 to 20' on the Ned with the TRD and the JB, didn't want to mess with the chandelier. These were in just a few locations about half the way back in pockets/creeks on steep secondary points. Water temp about 40 degrees.
  10. I will bring some kind of dessert and some drinks.
  11. Don't know why it would need that kind of head other than if you fished it bouncing off the bottom. My application would be that of any other plastic swim bait, which would normally be fished up in the water column. Regular ball head with a wire weed guard would work.
  12. Could be. Can't get a good look at the head from the pictures.
  13. Looks like a round ball head, 60 degree jig hook of fairly heavy wire, with a light wire weed guard. The hook size looks small to me. Maybe a 2.0 or 3.0? The hook gap seems to be about right. Looks like something that could be casted fairly easy.
  14. I am with you on filleting some flukes. I have too many of them, might as well see if it works rather than buy some of these. I can't believe the swimming action on the Reel N Shad. It needs to warm up, so we can fish and not be tempted by all these new baits.
  15. IMO: The reason for the regular fluke Jr instead of the swimming fluke is the horse head/roadrunner head has a tendency to roll over on it's side or do complete circles if reeled to fast or if it gets off balance. The straight tail fluke would act as a rudder and keep the head running strait. Also, less tail action may have matched the profile and movement of the herring in the cold water.
  16. Forget that $ 8.99 over built fish head from TW. A horsehead jig (over sized road runner) with a swivel and one willow leaf blade, a good hook and the trailer of your choice will do the job. My guess is you'd be well under $ 3.00 cost.
  17. Watching Skeet yesterday, he was just fishing way too fast, as were most of what I saw. Appeared that he was moving from place to place after making just a few cast in an area. He would engage the reel and start the retrieve just after the swimmer hit the water and then just crank like crazy.
  18. What a find that was, I need to find something like that.
  19. Awesome work. Did you do all the work yourself? What year model and horse power is the Merc?
  20. Now that is funny! Tell me it isn't true Dave?
  21. Will try and check it out. Thanks for the heads up.
  22. Good write up Dave. That weed guard looks like a dock cable compared to your jig. Bet it would be difficult to get a good hook up with that guard in the way, but would provide good protection from hang ups. Hook size is too large, might be okay with it's intended purpose which is with the larger worm attached.
  23. Agree on keeping the GP in the boat at all times. The memories captured will be priceless. It can get kind of frantic sometimes when the catching is fast and furious, trying to manage the camera and concentrate on fishing. In the long run it is well worth the effort. Thanks for the info Flippin and the video Bluff-Bassin. Looking forward to getting set up for longer recording time with the direct connection set up.
  24. I use the clamp mount with the flexible/adjustable arm to record fishing. I move it around the boat some, but generally clamp it to either the drivers or passenger windshield. This is the best location to video the front deck. Also use the suction cup mount when recording while running, as it steadies the camera. Suction cup gets very good grip to fiberglass, outboard or windshields. Just purchased the cap/head mount but haven't tried it yet. Should work good as it will shoot wherever you're looking. Another great accessory is the remote, as this enables controlling the camera remotely. Just push a button to turn off and on, or adjust other camera settings.
