  1. its been a few years but I called and asked the corp this question. I was told the ramps are NOT private and are available for public use. as for parking, it cannot be on private but you can park on corp property.
  2. havnt seen the 'road show' but his Bear Grease podcasts a good....certainly beats the radio dial when your in the car. Thanks for sharing.
  3. we went the amazon route as well. we're on the second pair now bc he's outgrown them. if either one leaked it wasnt much but hes only used them in warm months. Def would buy again.
  4. no issues with this here.
  5. Thanks for the tips. All great ideas. I was just thinking about what I could get for the grinch.......I mean wrench. jk What catalog?
  6. I have a similar rig, 18' flatback aluminum and a 2.5hp honda. great setup right here. someone will love this.

  8. Good video, speaking from inexperience, seems like an easy one to tie. I'll give it go and post results when I get a few done. One point he makes at the 1:00 min mark is about thread choice, and its importance here due to the differences between Danville and Uni. Hoppers aside, and just regarding tying in general, anyone here have an opinion or thought on the differences between these two? Ive been tying some very basic flies for years but I have no clue as to the best application of either of these. I just grab the color I need regardless of which one it is.
  9. Never tied these, but I now have a ton of foam and want to start. Id like to get some hopper, ant and beetle patterns I can use for trout & panfish. Big questions in my mind, for those who tie these flies, what is the thickness of foam your using? where do you get it? I think I bought a variety pack of foam in the WalMart craft area and its fairly thin. I was going to glue some sheets together for color variations and thickness. any thoughts on this. Also, do I need a foam cutter for these patterns? I'm guessing it would be easier with precut pieces but seems like scissors would work just as good as the foam cutter. Anyone up for a fly swap? Havnt seen one posted on here in a while. I was thinking maybe panfish flies. I might do some hoppers.
  10. Any thoughts on TFO fly rods? I thought there was some connection between TFO and Gary Loomis but I dont know what it was. Anyway, I found a few TFO euro style rods for a decent price, really it was a kit, rod, reel, line for like 350. I have some experience with their spinning rods, and the warranty. no complaints. all the ones I have are good rods, all light or UL action.
  11. @dpitt Are you using a regular DT or WF line? I've not used a euro nymph specific line but its suppose to be thinner and I assume would handle differently. and I would imagine that rod would handle significantly different with a WF line. How long of a leader are you using when you run an indicator setup like you mentioned? @Gavin what type of line are you using and how does the rod handle that? 5wt really larger than what I see for most euro rods, I assume the Z-Axis series was more of a general purpose rod? And why all the tips? each one serve a different purpose or you break some? Im thinking 9' is the longest rod I have and its a 6wt, fairly fast action. It works ok but Im looking for something that has more sensitivity in a lower wt. honestly I think i'll need to buck up more cash to get what I want. I need a fly shop that would let me test drive some of these.
  12. I'm wanting to get a new fly rod n reel setup specifically for euro style nymphing. Id like at least 9' but maybe a 10'+ rod or so and prob in a 2 or 3 wt. but maybe a 4. Anyone here nymphing like this regularly and what is your preferred rod, length and weight? Any suggestions for a rod in the 5-700 range.
  13. what grease would you suggest? Any chance the bearings are shot altogether and even re-oiling wont work? I got busy today and didnt get a chance to tear down again. but I think i'll try the suggestion about rinsing the anti-reverse with a solvent. as for grease, i'm really tempted to use a synthetic automotive multi-purpose.
  14. Ive got the acetone, just havnt had the time. I'll mess with it in the morning. but cleaning out the anti-reverse piece will be a chore. lots of little springs on that thing. sounds like maybe I should just clean it all again with the acetone, re-oil the bearings, and then grease up the gears. but I might try another grease this time. I was thinking maybe like a multi-purpose automotive grease. what do you guys think? I know the Reel Butter is made for this stuff but man, it just seems too thick, and I've lost confidence in it.
  15. HA. well, lesson learned i guess. good news is I still have 2 or 3 more of these that I havnt yet made that mistake on. Maybe I shouldve paid more attention to the youtube videos on these. Thanks for the tip on the bearings, I'll try the acetone bath on these while Im cleaning up the anti-reverse. I'm in Willard.
  16. you could be on to something with the bearings as Im not all that familiar with this work. There were a couple that sit right on the spindle and no I did not flush, not sure how, but I did put some oil right on those and let them sit for a few minutes. I also took the top off what I think is the anti-reverse piece (black & gray round piece in the pic on the spindle?) and put some oil in there. it was pretty clean to begin with.
  17. I've got a few Shimano Sahara's in various sizes that are all in need of cleaning and possible repair. They range in size from 750 to 2500 and were all used on lakes and rivers around here. Well after my experience this past weekend, having the 2500 feel like it had a load of sand dumped in the gears while in the middle of a float trip(and I dont think the reel ever touched the water), I decided it was time to clean em up. Well starting with the 2500, I tore it down, all the way to the gears inside by the cranking handle. To my surprise there was really no dirt, sand, grime or anything else that was just obviously a problem. I cleaned up all the grease I could and put a little of the Ardent Reel Butter on the gears and what not and then reassembled. And now, it will reel, doesnt seem to be as sticky /herky jerky, but its not smooth; takes a little bit of force but will crank all the way around and reel. Any thoughts on why its not so smooth or what I can do different? I was thinking about some type of synthetic grease possibly.
  18. wow....thats a whopper of a story. id say guy was full of it. maybe he leases a slip...maybe not. but thats about it. hope you kept on fishing.
  19. I knew this would be a tough hunt. Glad to see at least 1 came off public property. I am surprised with 12. I thought the number would be a little higher.
  20. These points right here make all the difference. all of mine are field to freezer asap. Hind quarters are turned into roasts and back straps into steaks and these are all in the freezer within a couple hours of killing. Occasionally I'll let the shoulders sit in the fridge for up to a couple days until i have time to trim and prep for grinding. No issues with taste. Cooked on the grill, in the pan, crockpot, pressure cooker, instapot, oven, you name it I've tried it. but lets be honest, its like beef, but its not beef. no substitute for a ribeye just as there's no substitute for venison backstrap. This is making me hungry...we need a new thread for favorite venison recipes. we've got a good new one that's a take on Mississippi pot roast.
  21. Interesting situation. I'd like to hear the responses on this. Obviously posting boundaries and painting only goes so far. I often see no trespassing publications in the legal sections of the local paper. I dont know why some go the extra mile but I'm sure there's a reason, maybe someone can explain this part.
