  1. Never caught 'bows down that far myself, but have heard many who say they have. I have caught some really nice bass down there though.
  2. I will vote on the brown any day of the week. They fight more like a smallie and I like that.
  3. I've caught some nice trout and smallies out of there.
  4. Thanks, I didn't get time myself to check into it.
  5. I'll have to check into this and let everyone know. I fished below the dam not too long ago and saw someone down at the farm putting in and someone else partying down there.
  6. I could steer you in the right direction with a pm. I might also be able to go fishing that Sunday also.

    elk river

Bobber, it has been that way for a long time now. I wish they had limited the number of outfitters on the river, but they didn't. You should have at least seen the County boat out giving tickets. Let me guess, the canoes were so thick you could walk across the river without touching water? I try and leave that section alone until after Labor Day.
  8. Glad to see some of you letting them go! I love that stream, but have seen a lot of pressure on there in the last few years. A lot of people don't practice C&R out there.
  9. Sorry then, was looking a little too much into that post then. Still wouldn't mind getting some guys together this Fall down on Capps for a gathering. Maybe a one fly competition? (one jig in my case)
  10. LOL, SilverMallard, you don't know me very well at all. Ask Wayne or anyone I know, I DON'T eat fish unless it's panfish or Walleye and then that would be a rare ocassion. I DON'T care to flyfish or learn how and I ONLY fish with jigs and artificial lures. If you would like to meet up sometime on Capps that would be great. Personally, I won't fish there again until Fall. I like to fish for smallies in the summer .
  11. Chief, we need to hook-up this summer. Either on Elk or somewhere else if you know what I mean. Give me a pm sometime with a number and we can shoot the bull and make sime plans.
  12. Sorry Drew, I was looking for you, but I didn't follow up either so it is just as much my fault. For what it's worth, I didn't follow the stock truck down there that day! lol Although I am in the know of when it does get stocked and not by the MDC. Also I don't fly fish either.
  13. jdmidwest you need to head west over here and I'll show you how to catch those #$%&*(#$#^ fish! Sometimes that's all I can catch. Doesn't seem to matter if I upsize my lure or not, they just love me I guess. Wayne, the hatchery over here did raise them back in the 70's or 80's, but not sure if they went to lakes or streams. Fishing beds isn't much of a challenge either. Yes, I have done it many years ago before I realized it wasn't any big deal and the problems I created for the fishery. I mean think about, it's like a canned hunt in a large fenced in pen. When your young it was kind of cool and the challenge was there. Now your older the thrill just isn't there anymore. Personally, my beer gets to hot while sight fishing too long anyways!
  14. RiverRunner, sounds like your comparing apples to oranges. A small stream can be affected many years after some people clean out the spawning smallies. I understand your not taking sides and your giving the biologists point of view, but do you really think it's not hurting our smaller streams? I see the article is for C&R on bedding smallies, so that makes it ok? Sorry, I'm in the class that says no to bed fishing no matter if it is C&R or not.

I was at Powell on Sunday and saw a LOT of people swimming. Mind you not very many people fishing. We fished around there for a little while and I noticed some smallies are already bedding. Didn't fish after that, but the water was in good shape for a change.
  16. June or May? I'm out for May. June or July are my only hopes at this point. Bobber, let me know if you want to do a day trip on Elk sometime.
  17. Since I live fairly close to Joplin this is what I know. Hoax or someone pretending to associate themselves with the Disney name I really don't know. The local news ran a report on it just the other night and they interviewed people that claim they were approached by someone claiming affialation with Disney. They were offered twice the appraisal value on their property. Most of the land was near the road for access and most of the people didn't bite. However there was this one lady that said if the check didn't bounce she was out of there!
  18. Man Jim, even if you can't make any rodeos keep holding the faith and hopefully things will improve for you. I was hoping to fish with you this year sometime, but I understand.
  19. 3rd week in May? I suck then. Wife is graduating from Crowder College on Saturday and I promised I would be there for that. What other weekends do you have in mind?
  20. Thumbs-up for the yaks too. I own a Pam 100 and the only thing I would trade it in for would be one without a leek! I've had mine for about 5 years now and just recently developed a leak, but remember I am stubborn and don't want to get out of the boat!
  21. Cool on the fishing. I didn't realize until recently that he had a store in Anderson. Keep in touch.
  22. Dude, legal or not, that won't stop some landowners from taking a crack at you!
  23. So much detail to digest Al, wish I had kept better records of my trips. The biggest smallie for me would be a true 20" caught out of a small stream I won't mention either. It did not weigh over 3-3 1/2 pounds I'm sure. That was about 10 years ago and since then I haven't caught another that big. Caught a few 18", but most of the time I catch dinks or fish in the 12-14" range. I have no doubt that the size limit put on the creek for keeping smallies has something to do with the growth of them. It's sad to see a guy walking up a bank with legal size smallies. All you can do is try and talk him into C&R next time.
  24. Good to see ya on here Thaus. Yea, I bought a Ruger from his Dad a few years back and then when he took over he bought it back from at a reasonable price. Always treated people fair from what I have seen. I may need to go in there and take a look around. Is he mainly selling off pistols or rifles? He has a nice selection of pistols. Are we ever hooking-up and fishing that one creek I won't mention? If your around give me a pm.
  25. RS is a great forum. I kinda miss those topics, but like Al said, sometimes they got a little out of hand. Sorta like the avatars people were using.
