    Peanuts!

Love me some peanuts! I like the Costco brand the best though. Crunchy and salty! Bad for me I'm sure.
  2. I used to fish the Beaver Tailwater quite often about 15-20 years ago but haven't since. I mainly remember there being a lot of stockers and the bait fisherman would show up at stocking. That and the bottom being completely scoured out. Oh yeah, that and I almost broke my leg one night when the fog was bad and I couldn't see anything in from of me!
  3. rubbing alcohol, warm to hot water and apply with a bar towel or something similar. Wipe down with coffee filters. This is what we used in the restaurant that had mirrors from the booths to the ceiling and people were able to smoke in there. Man, that was sometime back! lol
  4. I read about that yesterday. Very unusual for one to attack like that. Somewhere it said his son witnessed the attack as well. After they cut up the bear it will be interesting to see what their final judgement will be on why it attacked the man.
  5. Bass found in just one US river officially named as new species Looks like a smallie to me! It is cool though.
  6. When I was a kid my parents took us to Ozark Empire just about every year. I know they didn't go for the food or the livestock, or the music. Now that I look back on it, I can remember them signing up for anything that was free or a give a way! lol That must have been the reason we went. When I got a little older I took my kids to Tulsa for the fair several times and enjoyed it enough.
  7. Years back my dad had a nine footer that he had converted from a fly rod to spinning. That would be another option for you. It did look goofy to me since the reel was all the way on the back of the rod though.
  8. Good point. I find myself as I get older not really caring about how many I catch anymore. I just want to get out and enjoy myself. More fish and bigger fish just seem to be a bonus. After I had that roll over in my car a few years back, I have had a different perspective on a lot of things.
  9. That is what I started out with and didn't have any success. Small Fluke, rooster tail, plastic craws and then the rebel craw. I didn't get any pics since none of them were that big. Had no idea I had caught an Ozark Bass. Just looked like a goggle eye that I normally catch around here! lol That is cool though.
  10. Just a quick report on my fishing adventure this past weekend. My wife had the weekend off for a change and wanted to go somewhere. I knew she would want to go where there were flea markets and antique stores so me, being the savvy guy, suggested the Mountain Home area. She said, "pick a spot you can fish at as well". I am thinking this would be a good location since I knew there were all kinds of those stores around and I had been in that area many times before. I could hit up either the White or Norfolk tailwaters for some trout. After she had already booked a cabin at Rim Shoals, I wished I had chosen differently. I packed for trout fishing but failed to take into consideration that they would probably be generating a lot. A lot was an understatement. They never shut it off the whole weekend. My mistake for not planning that out well enough. 😒 I didn't want to hire a guide, and I wasn't about to go out alone on a rental boat so that option was gone. Enter Crooked Creek into the picture. I have never fished it before and I was somewhat not prepared for smallie fishing. I just had limited options in the tackle box for smallies. I went to WalMart and picked up some plastic craws in a color I wasn't that impressed with, but it was a done deal at that point. I drove over to the slab on Saturday morning and got there about 7ish in the morning. Only one other guy there at the time and he said he had caught one already. I fished there for a little bit and asked him some questions about the area. He was somewhat reluctant until he hit me up for a lure or two since he lost his! lol I gave him a couple of the plastic craws I bought and then a rooster tail. Since that slab isn't really big enough for too many people to fish from, I headed back to the car and found another spot close by. I had the whole area to myself, and I must say, the area was very pretty and well maintained. Heck, I know you guys in Arkansas pay higher taxes than we do, but most every AFG spot I have been to has been kept up really nice. I have a feeling I caught it at a good water level as well. I found the fishing to ok, but nothing spectacular. I ended up catching 4 smallies, one largemouth, and one goggle eye. Lost one that probably would have went somewhere around 14"-15" and had a huge blow up on the top from a rebel craw I had just thrown out near the bank. Although I question that one for only one reason. In a deeper pool, one that I couldn't see bottom, I saw a few big carp swimming around. The area where I threw that craw was right under a hanging branch of some kind that looked like it had berries on it. I have seen catfish and other fish hit top when those drop so it just left a doubt whether or not it was a bass or something else. I think the biggest of the day was probably around 11-12". It wasn't a bad experience at all and I would do it again if I get the chance. Although I would come better prepared next time! Oh yeah, I wouldn't recommend staying where we did either. The cabin was nice and well maintained, but the bed and any kind of cell service just plain sucked. When I left the slab area there were a lot of cars over there by the slab. Very popular spot like I thought it would be.
  11. I saw that article and I knew right away it had to come from Havasu! hasn't that lake already given up a record on Redears?
  12. I keep debating on trading my kayak in and getting one where I can adapt a motor to it fairly easy. That way I could have one for the creek and coves on the lakes. At that point on the price though, you could almost just buy a used boat. I can only imagine the cost on that bad boy in the link!
  13. According to my family tree I had an uncle or grandfather than came to settle in Reeds Spring before the civil war broke out. According to the letters he was a "big" game hunter. It is fact he never went overseas so it is assumed they meant deer, bear, and maybe mountain lions or bison. He apparently shot whatever he could to make a living. Seems like a lot of states saw the same thing happen. With no rules to abide by many just choose to rape the resources thinking it would never diminish and there would be plenty for all. Glad some kind of science was introduced to get to where we are today. I was amazed when I was younger and found out they used a punt gun to kill so many birds just so they could use the feathers for lady's hats back then.
  14. At least 24' of water in an hour it rose. That is insane when you think about it. That is an average of 4 feet every 10 minutes. Now the death toll has gone even higher. I understand why there is so many campgrounds along that river since the water is so clear for the most part. Most of them are right by the river though so when the river gets going they are right in the path. And of course this was one of the busiest times of the year. If I had young kids, I think I would be hesitant to send them to one right on the river or creek after seeing this.
  15. I almost went down for this one until I heard how many boats were involved. I had heard over 500 entries on the lake for this one. Brought in a lot of money for Grove I'm sure. Looks like it went off well too. 16th High School Fishing World Finals & National Championship 2025 Grand Lake, OK – Student Angler Federation Only problem is, the day after weight in large bass were washing up on shore in the cove where all of them were released. As in a LOT of fish and nice ones were washing up on peoples shoreline. Not so great after all. I only know about this because I know people who live down there and they confirmed this as well. Now, I am not naive enough to know that there will be some killed after the weigh in, but we are taking about literally hundreds of bass washing up on shore. One person said they counted at least 40 in a 200 yard stretch and another home reported about the same and that is only 2 that have said anything. I don't really know how they release them after a tournament this size, but I do know they just went around the cove where the weigh in was and put them all in that area. Curious, and again, I know this will happen, but has there been a huge kill like this at pro tournament before?
  16. Years ago all the swimmers were below zone 3 dam, but now that they have changed all of that around I guess they just go and get in the water wherever they want!

    Pizza Ovens

A little too small for me. Not like the ones we used at the restaurant I worked in! Brick ovens heated by gas. We kept one of them at 600 and the other one at 500 if memory serves me correct. 600 for pies and 500 for the calzones and rolls. Baker's Pride and Blodgett is what we used and I had many a scars from those beasts! lol You will get the hang of it I'm sure. I hear some pretty good things from those that have those types of ovens though.
  18. It was the right material, or at least it was supposed to be. Buzz and I split the cost for enough for both of ours. His is still on and we applied the same way. That and his yak is made of the same material. I think it was more of a design issue on mine vs. his. Either way, mine just didn't hold up like it should have. Although, the more I think about it, mine was exposed to the sun more than his so I know that couldn't have been great for it. It may have been what actually did it in. In the long run though I would recommend you get it done if you are keeping the boat for some time. Just don't let me apply it!
  19. I think I might put one on there but be careful in what you get if you do. Mine came off on my yak in one season of use. I applied one that just didn't hold up very well.
  20. I saw that the other day. Did they actually get born in OK or did they just migrate there from CO.? One county is in the pan handle not far from CO and the other is in the middle of the state on the KS border. Although Osage County is further in state so maybe it is true that they were born in OK. I guess I am just a doubter on whether or not they were actually born in OK.
  21. So, my wife and I are taking a little get away the first of August and I suggested the White somewhere around Cotter to stay. That way she can go to all the flea markets around there and I can go fishing. Sounds like a win win for me I suppose. There are so many around there I was hoping some of you that have stayed around there before could chime in. I was looking at Rim Shoals, but that was just my first look since it is on the water and close to wading opportunities. We are going to take the dogs as well so there is that to consider too. Any info is appreciated.
  22. Just had a small tornado touch down about a couple miles of our house this morning! I am at work and my wife and dog got into a closet to ride it out. Will have to check out damage when I get home. We didn't get any damage at our house so all is somewhat good here.
  23. Rumor has it, the fishing is on fire!
  24. My wife refuses to watch it. She had to go up there the day it hit and work from Memorial Hall (not in use now) for Mercy Hospital. She normally worked on Sundays, but didn't that day. She said she didn't want to relive all of that again. I am going to watch it sometime when she isn't around. At the time I always joked with her about leaving her car at the hospital that day. She was driving an Aveo, and it would have put that car out of it's misery! lol I just remember the day it hit you could hear sirens racing across the county and I live about 20 miles away. We knew something bad happened, but we didn't know until a little later what had really happened.
  25. I went by there Saturday morning since it was nice and saw more cars and trucks in the parking lot than I did rigs (10C). Lots of people bank fishing, but not a lot getting caught from what I saw. Only saw one stringer, but those guys had been there all morning and said it was tough for those. Looked like a good day for fishing, but not catching. At least from what I saw. Looks like the Billetheads and Curtise did well though! Nice job on those BTW.
