  1. Had a good morning today with minimum flow until 1 pm. Sulphurs really started popping once the fog burned off around 10. Lots of rainbows, 2 decent browns and real pretty cutthroat. All on dries. Here's a link to a short video of the bug action... Also a couple of pics...

    High Water

Hope you will be bringing a boat. Wade fishing will probably not be an option. If you want to fly fish then try big streamers or hopper imitations up close to the bank. If you don't have a boat I would suggest calling Dally's and booking one his guides.
  4. That sounds good but I am afraid we will have some big water flow issues in August.
  5. Made a trip to the C&R area below the dam this morning since the water was still off color here at Cotter. They were running about 1 unit so that somewhat limits the areas you can safely wade. Saw a few sulphurs coming up and then around 9am they really started popping and that continued until I left at noon. Caught lots of rainbows including some pretty good ones as well as one 17" brown. Best flies were a size 16 parachute Sulphur and a size 16 yellow crackleback skated on top. Here is one of the better rainbows...
  6. Took the wife to the dam this morning to take advantage of a day of true minimum flow (which we may not see again for some time). Sulphurs were right on cue and started at 9am. We fished a very shallow area where you could see the trout cruising around and taking the bugs. It was mostly sightcasting with lots of lookers and quite a few takers. I lost a big brown that I would estimate was around 24". I saw him cruising and placed the fly about a foot in front of him and he came up and took it. He made a couple of jumps and then the hook pulled out. Here's a few pics... Check out the coloration of the adipose fin on the brown. I have never seen the bright red tip like that. Also a couple of nice rainbows. We estimated around 60-70 caught this morning, all on dries.
  7. Definitely hard to figure out their logic sometimes (well all the time).
  8. Hard to figure out why they are releasing so much water out of Table Rock as it is at the lowest level of the lakes on the White river system. Seems logical they would hold back some water in Table Rock and then release later.
  9. Here is a better pic of the adipose fin...

  11. You should have plenty of water to boat up to the dam.
  12. They also are delaying the Norfork floodgate releases. Here is some more info... https://ozarkflyfisherjournal.wordpress.com/2019/06/24/minimum-flow-tomorrow/
  13. Oh man, that brings back memories of trips past to Colorado. New Mexico and Utah. I haven't been to the Frying Pan, but lots of rivers in southern/central Colorado and of course the San Juan in NM. Beautiful places!
  14. Looks like they got quite a bit of water downstream on the White yesterday as I notice Norfork did not open the floodgates this morning. They were at minimum flow this morning and schedule says minimum flow tomorrow until early afternoon. Better take advantage while we can.

  16. Fishing at night with thunderstorms around...you guys are really mad at them.😄
  17. Where are you located?
  18. I just emptied my rain gauge and it had 4 1/2" since yesterday. The White river is currently the Brown river here at Cotter and running pretty high. I went to the Flippin Walmart a while ago and the little creek that runs through town was about out of it's banks. Drove by Crooked creek and it is way high also. Looks like round 2 is just about to hit @ noon.

  20. Just saw on the news that the COE is going to open some spillway floodgates on top of the 2 generators that are running 24/7 on Monday to lower the lake. Probably a good time to stay away as that narrow river will be a dangerous torrent.
  21. Probably so but I really enjoy watching them come up to take a floater... or rejecting it and then trying a different presentation. So much fun watching the aquarium in action.
  22. You think you have foot problems... I used to wear Crocs and look what they did to my feet...
  23. Understand it this time. Today was the first time for minimum flow in the last 2 weeks. They are going back to 35mw tomorrow so a different game plan.
  24. Went to the upper White this morning since the forecast was for minimum flow. Sulphurs started coming up around 9am and lasted until they blew the horn at noon. I fished a very shallow area that was less than a foot deep with very little current. The sulphurs were hatching in the shallow gravel and the trout were stacked in there waiting for an easy meal. It was fun because it was mostly sightcasting to cruising fish. I had a good size brown take the fly but I think I set the hook too fast and didn't connect. That is a pretty common mistake when you see them come up for the fly and then end up striking too fast. My old British friend always said to say "God save the Queen" after you see the take before setting the hook on a dry fly. Ended up with lots of rainbows including some really nice ones. Best fly was a size 16 crackleback with a yellow foam body skated on the surface. The movement really got their attention. Here is a pic of a fat one...
