Since your just getting started. I know it can be expensive. I cast and tie my own jigs. I know a couple things that might help you save a bit of money.
I buy my thread at JoAnns sewing shop. They sell a exterior apholstery thread that is pure Nylon and very strong. It comes on larger spools. I just wrap it from them to my smaller spools . Only trouble is it comes in only black if the color is a problem.
Other thing is Hobby Lobby sells a glue called Fusion. It can be rhineed with water but dries water proof. I hve it in two different bottles. One thinned and one full strength. I used the rhinned stuff to apply and too my wrappings as I am doing it. Then I over coat the final with full strength. The stuff is about 10 bucks for 2 zo bottle but is really good stuff.
