We have caught quite a few during the summer incidental to bass and bluegill fishing dragging crawlers on main lake pints on the lower end. Usually 25-35 ft. All channel cats...Usually big ones 5-10#. They'll eat a jigging spoon too oddly enough.

Jim I was thinking the same thing.....seems like a really expensive job for a very select few fisherman willing to hike to the lakes...although I cant imagine the entertainment value to those who get to do the drops!! That would be fun!

I just have crappy stuff and park next to rigs worth 10x what mine is. No problems yet!! Just kidding.... learned my lesson at stockton...I took everything out but the crawlers....next morning no crawlers and worm dirt all over the carpet. Fact is people are opportunistic...give them the chance and someone will take it. Do you trust your dog to watch your lunch? (Dont...youll be dissapointed everytime)

Have fished the stretch from terre du lac to leadwood my whole life. Dont even get me started on the locals..... Not great fishing and few big fish. lots of largemouth in the grass. Just the last 5 yrs or so ive been picking up spots. Not many but 1 here and there.

If you fish Keitech swimbaits....inevitably the tail will fall off....after 1 fish lol. Save those up....they make great DS worms!!

Huge fan of the War Eagle spoons, and the Cabelas real image spoons. They are def fish catchers!

Dirtracer and Dprice are the only two who have seen this so far? Do you two fish the same areas of the lake? Must be intentional by someone. I was down last weekend in the hawker area, and all the bass we caught (maybe a dozen) were healthy.

Ya same here on the drum. We caught lots on cranks and crawlers. They're fun to catch at least!

I was wondering the same thing....i know once the thermocline sets up they will be all over em. We did well late last september when there was no real thermocline, so I bet you could do just fine now. Flicker shads/shad raps/reef runners/deep thundersticks work great...dont forget the wide wobble hot n tot. Play with speeds and depths...youll probably get some crappies in the mix too as well as other species. Your in for quite a change in scenery coming from LOZ!! No docks!

I love the sailboats on the lower end....they look so nice against the water with the dam in the horizon. They are def not aggravating like the speedboats/jet skis.

Why do the big shad follow the bass to the boat?

How do you clean those gils? Did you fillet them up, or just scale/gut?

PD...were you using downriggers?

Yeah, 9LB I really like that boat...its the perfect stockton boat! Once my boat finally kicks the bucket (or i sink it....) I really want a deep v boat.

I really have no idea!?! Maybe a bad spawn a few years ago? I remember in 2009 and 2010 I caught several fish over 20 inches. Still lots of dinks, but seemed like I could count on catching at least 1 toad per trip. The last few years havent been nearly as good with the big bass....but then again ive been targeting crappie mostly, but I still caught a few nice ones a year. I wish we could keep some of those 12" fish...I feel like there is an overpopulation of them, even with all the forage.

First, RPS...Your table rock walleye articles are fantastic sources of info...they translate well to other walleye fisheries as well...just great info. Second...what type of rods do you use (tip action)? How do you detect bites? The few fish I caught just kinda appeared on my line. The last year I tried the ol crawler harness on stockton....ive caught fish but still not nearly as many as when i longline cranks, or just a plain jig/crawler. Gonna try and practice quite a bit this summer with em.

Probably 8 or 10 years ago my cousin caught a small brown on a crawler, in schooner creek. That was the first and only brown ive ever seen caught...seen a few rainbows caught over the years with crawlers.

There are def some nice ones there. I had a good last two weeks with the crappie and stocked the freezer, so went out saturday with all my bass gear hoping to find some nice ones...my brother and I fished 35 from 530am-10 caught about 20-30 fish a piece..ALL DINKS....used to be that about 1 in 20 fish on 35 was a nice 4-5lb fish. I have yet to catch one over 15inches this year though. Maybe 35 is having a bad year or something....next week I may try 33 for some bigger bass...I rarely if ever fish that lake, but according to the MDC website, they surveyed like 60% of bass bigger than 15"

From my point of view....the smallmouth are a nuisance species and crowd out my walleye streams. I catch 10 dink smallies for every 1 nice walleye...maybe we should manage for them?? (please remove all smallmouth up to your daily limit on the meremac/black/and st francis rivers...LOL!! bet that wouldnt go over too well)...but seeing as walleye are just an "eating" fish nobody gives a s*** if they get wiped out. FlySmallie.....dont people do that anyway with the stocker trout? Ive seen alot more trout being cut up than smallmouth....invasive is invasive. Nobody wants more spotted bass in any of the streams around here right?

Just imagine of some poor sap said....".if it was legal id eat it."......dont throw rocks I wouldnt... If I caught a trophy class fish of any specie id get proper measurements and pics and release it.

Caught a couple in the k city area in my life. Deep water in the summertime with crawlers. Seems like every few years one of our crew catches on of those goofy things.
