Number 9 shot in a 410 ga shotgun at 2o yards or so in the rump area. It does not really hurt them but it delivers a real good sting plus the sound of the gun makes for a scary memory . I have seen them the next day and not even limping. Sometimes you got to shoot 1/2 dozen before they all give up totally. It will last till you get a bunch of yearlings then they have to be educated as well. If we seen 18 that close were in for it. Lot of people use pellet rifles. I do not use mine because my pellet rifle has close to 1300 lbs muzzle velocity. That is more than the 410 shotgun. It does bot have the loud noise either that contributes to the effect. Something I have wanted to try for sometime is a paint ball gun. I have been told they just hate that stuff.

Like a lot of other stuff its main purpose is to catch fishermen. I own one expensive lure the Spro BB1. I have not taken it out on the lake bass fishing and will not till after the spawn. That is the period I bought it for anyway. But I have spent a few hours practicing with it trying to find out what it is capable of and to get the feel of it to know what its doing when I cannot see what it is doing. I expect it to do very well when I start using it. I know when I was young I thought i needed this and that and the other thing. Now I know all I need is the thing I truly understand.

I might be in the same boat with your uncle this year. Lot of young deer out. We counted 18 in one group about 1/2 mile up the road. Will have to start all over with 410 education plan it appears.

I do not do veggies but I wanted to ask if any of you have deer problems. Last year I grew rosemary plants (Not a easy task in a shade garden) around the garden in pots. I would clip them not and then and dice the clipping up small and scatter them all around the garden. They went next door and chewed up a bunch of plants. But walked right by mine without touching anything. Just wondering if anyone e se has had this experience

I am a little surprised you have a pass. You pay taxes. Not seem right to me.

I fish almost entirely for big catfish with a spoon. When you find the areas where the White bass feed on shad you can often find some large catfish under the schools of feeding white bass. I just bounce the spoon off the bottom. Have caught many up to 48 lbs. The reason the catfish are there is because the white bass are slashing through the shad schools and the stunned and injured shad will sink to the bottom. It is a easy meal for the catfish and also makes them a sucker for a bouncing spoon. It is fun way to catch them.

I certainly hope so. Part of the problem has been the days have consisted of more colder temperatures than warming temperatures. The other day it got into the 60's but at 11am it had just started to get to 40 degrees. I just went at the weather forecast. It looks to me like if we get a warm rain Monday the fishing door might just fly open.

Wrench ------I was up in Versailles and a stopped the gravois mills ramp.It looked like a darn circus. Came by your place and seen your truck was gone so I did not stop. I am still catching those little Kentucky bass off the dock on a jig tipped with a crappie nibbles. The biggest one was about 11 inches and some were about the size of a cigar. All of them washed out. everything down here looks deep. I have put the rogues away for the year. I will not get out till day after tomorrow. We are going to Springfield for the day. You want anything from pro bass down there. I went to the other side of my point last evening and pitched the jig around awhile. Caught a Drum was all. I do believe those drum find some attraction in anything I touch this time of year.

Have you ever been there like 30 years ago when all this I was there I seen it happen. It is open now. But I have not been back there since it closed. I am Not talking about the lake anyway. I am talking about the company. I think the lake was a real fine place. We used to use a dirt ramp and the end of a road. Like whole lot of people did till they blocked it off with several tons of rock. I have never been back. It was at that time a great fishing lake. But the company did shut it to the public. They did finally open it. I think that IL state have something over there now. Is it a state park are what. If you want you can go into the Archives of the Old St Louis Globe Democrat and there is stories in there about it I am sure. There might be some in the Post Dispatch as well. I am wondering right now if it was not closer to 40 yrs ago. I was never comfortable with the Merge of UE with CIPS. I think the way the way The present power company acted with a lot of home owners here who were sold what they thought was there property was a little high handed like I would expect from CIPS attitude.

I had a all wheel drive SUV at one time. I sis not like it a bit. all those wheels work independently. Sometimes on slick pavement and ypu slow down you get a lot of shaking because one wheel is stopping the other driving. It sure was no answer to getting stuck in the snow either. At least the ford was that way. AL Maybe you should take a look at the new Dodge trucks. My son in law has a full size 4 door Ram. It is a big truck and the gas mileage he gets out of that thing just floors me. W ith no cover and no load the get 21 to 23. MPG. It has that 8 speed auto transmission and when you hit about 50 MPH the whole truck lowers itself down on the road to provide less resistance. He told me there is a joint program between Flrd and Chrysler going on to develop a 10 speed truck transmission.

Things seemed to change drastically after the merge. I think a lot of policies can be laid to the infusion of what was the old CIPS or Central Illinois Power Service. They were not at all supportive of fishing or anything else in the recreation field years ago. I used to fish Lake Coffeen In IL many years ago. At that time they were not supportive of people fishing the lake. They allowed it reluctantly, but they did things to discourage it like dumping tons of rock an the old roads that provided access. There were no ramps no camp grounds nothing. The Illinois conservation office ask them to set aside some property for a boat ramp. It turned into a big argument. As I recall they made a big issue about it being private property liability and everything else. I think both sides were wrong in their approach. But the thing that CIPS done was deputize about half the town of Coffeen and put boats on the lake. They arrested and prosecuted a bunch of people. They made a statement as I recall that they were in the bushiness to provide power and maximize their profit and not provide recreation to anyone. I agree but I do not trust them to not do things that will discourage things they do not support. When we had the recent round and round about the take line. It looked like the stuff I would expect for the old CIPS. I do not think they are done either.

Indian might be hp there in the upper 40s if you get back in there pretty far. The way the wknd was blowing today a lot of west side of the creek may hace been pretty protected. I do not htIn I am going to be going out the weekend unless it is Sunday morning for awhile. need to catch up on gardening around here. The. my daughter is coming down Sunday. afternoon.
-
yes but not much they are remnants of a flash flood we had some years ago. It wash big oaks and things down into the gravois upper end How far do you intend on going down. The temperature down about 1 1/2 was 47 when I was up there this afternoon. By the time I got to my place at Mill Creek it was back to 44. Might be your best bet to hang up in that area.
-
You should have a real fine time up there this weekend WARFRAT.
-
Just watch out for a few trees sticking up the first couple of miles down. A few or way way off the bank. It is also extremely shallow across from the ramp. Water temperature was over 47 this afternoon. Hope you have a good time you might have a crush of fishermen up there though if the wether is decent.

I have looked at the curve. Bt its not important to me. I look out my window and can see where it is.I was not told that by anyone down there. I was told buy a business man here in the Gravois. He was suppose have gotten a call.
-
I do not know about Truman but LOZ is only 43 even colder. But you can find both bass and crappie very shallow if you can find if you can find a spot warmed by the sun.
-
whoever got his boat smashed was lucky. Even moored barges will do you in. Current running under them is like a giant vacuum cleaner.
-
i have a example of sharing. i know two brothers very well that bought a bass boat together. about 3 yrs later the one brother decided he wanted a pontoon boat.he went and sold the boat bought the pontoon and never told his brother he was doing it.

My 4 stroke 115 Merc is 11yrs old starts like a new car all year long I have only had two problems with it. The water pump impeller and the fuel jets. I do not know if this is still true are not but the fuel jets on the 115 are very small and they used to have filters in them at one time. They tend to clog up. If that happens take it back and tell them to punch them out. They can still clog pretty easy on some models if they set long periods. I run mine for a few minute in the dock about 1 time a month all winter. The thing with the impeller is it does not completely clear water. The last thing I do after the boat is on the lift is fire it for just a second to expel that water.
-
Be careful with that I threw a rod and rel on the water because of that. I just lost the feeling and did not know how lightly I was holding it. Silly what we all go thru to fish.

that pool in back of alton goes all the way to the next darn that is Clarksville. it is not the best area by any means a lot of dirty water coming thru there. up above Clarksville it is a different story are at least it was.
