  1. I have never used a leader and not sure I need it anyway. To me it looks like your just creating another weak spot on the line. I have used 10 lb braid on crappie outfits because it makes it easier easier to pull jigs loose from brush, but I tie it directly. That brings up a good question. We know how sensitive a bass is to sound and lives in a world filled world filled with sound like yours. At least it was 60 yrs ago when I left it. But the basses sound is not really what you think of as sound its vibration. So the question is what do you believe the bass does. Does he see your line or does he feel it anyway. If he does does it really matter. Does his brain tell him the line is attached to a fisherman who is trying to catch him. I believe the bass feel vibrations from the line and it is of no concern to him. He is concentrating on the lure. Plus he is not smart enough to relate the line to danger. I wonder a lot about this.
  2. the thing he got the job and he is going into something that may be very well paying. my daughter her husband are both computer geeks. if your any good you do not look long for a job and he has not.
  3. well I am going to try that. i just bought a new BBZ-1 Junior. After what i paid for it I am thinking about saddling up one of 61/2 ft worm rods with something around that weight. The first time one of these bid long nose gar around here looks at it I might add a 3 inch steel leader to the front in top on top of that.
  4. champ I went down to Camdenton today. crossed the osage arm at sunrise beach on the sunrise beach bridge and as far as you could see both directions it was iced over. Also crossed the Niangua same story solid ice. I live on the gravois at the mouth of Mill Creek cove.from here up it is sold ice as well. after the next few days the whole lake should be covered with ice to thick for a dock owner like me to be comfortable with. the lake temp reports have been hovering around 33 degrees for several days.
  5. : In do not use all the different types of lines and do not think most of the hype really amounts to a lot. I have used PBS mono in the large spools for many years for everything mostly in lines between 8 and 12 test. I do not have break offs ever because of line failure. it is do if it it happens because i have not been checking my line for abrasion enough or have used a hook that has a sharp edge in the eye where the wire bend mets the eye. in the later case a small chunk of the knot might still be there. I believe all other break offs come from line abrasion or the combination of a damaged line and a attempt to horse the fish into the boat. Then there is fishing boat docks the frames and especially the cable are rough and sharp. In this case if the fish gets on one side and you on the other i suggest you just pray about it.
  6. I tell You Doc. I use a IPad. This thing is very frustrating to say the least. i have to go back and check. after I am done then post it. it is so sensitive to touch and being left handed my hand is going over the top of the screen. But i really think it has a mind of its own. I am just maybe too dam old for this new stuff. I go back so far that the first time I drove a car with cruise control it scared me. I sort of feel the same with this thing. BUT I bought my wife a brand new Apple computer for our 50th wedding anniversary. It had a key board and larger type. Now if she will just let me touch it.
  7. i watched those shows a as I recall the Polamar was the winner. does not matter any good not should work if you do not horse the fish.
  8. I have caught fish to 49 lbs on it was either 10 or 12 lb test mono i forget which it was on the reel. Only time i go larger is pitching docks and sometimes not then. Only reason for that is fishing in back of docks and if I am going into heavy cover. Will destroy any line very very fast and a heavier line give me slightly longer life margin.
  9. To me the thing is about knots. Its been Proven the Polamar beats all. I use that and the clinch. I do not worry to awful much about it. If a 20 lb knot breaks at 15 it could be any number of reason. When I am fishing I run my fingers over the first few feet of my line now and then to check it for wear. The thing is it would take awful big freshwater fish to exert even 15 lbs of pressure on a line. If you doubt that put 15 lbs on the floor and take you best rod and reel and tie it to that. now just lift it off the floor. Guess what will break before you raise that 15 lbs off the floor.
  10. well since were getting into this. I think it is partly scent and partly bass knowing where hunt them. But sound seems to help me in the fall to catch bass. I use a heavy jig and bounce it over the rocks etc on channel banks I can feel it hit the bottom hard. I learned this from a indian guide in Canada. He proceeded to produce a small 5 ft medium action spining rod. He had about 8 lb test line on it. To this he tied what looked like a 3/4 oz jig head with nothing on it. He proceeded to drop it over the side onto the bottom and bang it up and down raising it about 4 " every time and letting it fall back. He caught walleye as fact as we did with bait. Another thing that has alway intrigued me is that bass see colors beyong our spectrum. I would think then that some color of plastic lure all fixed to look like a crawfifh may not even appear that color to a bass. To me its whatever you find that works for you. Colors overall worth is way over stated. I got faith in the brown color for bottom lures and that faith reflects from my head thru my hands and down to the other end of the line.
  11. If i have to re rap one i am thinking about these new chrome ones i seen some place i wonder how they are. the titaniums are expensive. I do not put on many expensive guides I have smashed and broken so many on the roof of my dock while setting a hook it would be to expensive.

I know the .corp id hurting for money . after all they are the military that some in congress have been pushing against. the big bite has come from discretionary spending. although I do not approve of the spending cuts I know first hand how they blow discretionary spending. ike wrench said all they have to due is raise the rates a bit. But that would not be politically popular.
  13. the most revealing thing to me was maybe one of you should invent a fly that floats inches off the water
  14. my dock contains 2 28 ft stalls. and has a outside it 32x30. not taking that out. be sides it would have to fit over the top of a 7 ft sea wall. Italked toa representative from the power company a few years back about raising the dock out of the water on 6 " steel pipes and it would become a solid fixture. he told me they might accept that now. I think he was blowing hot air but it is a solution to. a lot of everyones problemsdown here.
  15. sounds like a urban legend to me Mitch. i can never recall them locking through small boats in my time around winfield , Clarksville or Saverton. Wrench might know though if they did. he grew up near the Mississippi above st louis
  16. i have not been active ion the mississippi since the 60s. below winfield and clarksville used to. be the best crappie fishing in mo
  17. I am of the school never trust it. These big ozark impoundments are full of springs. Will not really springs but moisture goes into. the ground and through pressure in cracks they call quaffers is force up somewhere else.that is why they want to get rid of septic systems around lakes. the sewage can travel for miles before it come up.they have proven this at Big Springs. Those quaffer springs come up in the lake and the water rises under the ice and makes a thin spot or actual hole. i just would bot trust any of it.
  18. i am going to double check that. storm damage and Ice is different.
  19. You cannot get a insurance company that insures a dock against ice damage Wrench.
  20. up here in the gravois we got mostly ice. i took a rock the size of a base ball and gave it a high throw out onto the ice this afternoon and it didn't hardly dent it. now we got some strong wind and warmer weather coming. that is a prescription for ripping dock right off there moorings and a lot of other damage as well. make me real nervous.
  21. I just bought sproBBZ-1 that is what I wont to mess with thisyear it fits right into one of the ways I fish.
  22. I think i. ight have 4 or 5 of them I do not know. i put them in a plastic box with other stuff I do not use anymore
  23. well J Doc I am mostly the lure will be either light or dark. It might be in my head. BUT. There is something about brown. I currently have over 250 very large plastic worms in various shades of brown. I use brown jigs and trailers as well. plus tubes and plastics of that nature. But no matter what the color it will not amount to a pot of beans without a proper placement of the cast and the retrieve. In other words the presentation.
  24. Like i said on the post that did hot go through. Maybe Eric is not promoting himself but is connected to the tourism machine in some way.
  25. Mr babler I do not know what the value is in fishing reports to begin with. Condition and patterns can change in hours not days. This forum is a good place to share experiences, tip, and general things more so than reports. Just a few days ago I got a tip that is going to prove very valuable There was a big discussion about the Spro bait. There was a lot of nice discussions. But for all that ,the only thing really stuck with me was two words SINKS SLOWLY. I had about given up on swim baits. All the soft ones tend to go down like a rock and have to be worked faster. Also most soft swim baits got single hooks and I am certain from the number of ripped up swim baits two trebles would be much better. I just assumed the hard jointed ones sank like a rock also. I did not know some were designed to sink slowly. So had a few PM and I decided this Spro bait will be the ticket to the presentation that I want to make at the times I think I need it. I do not depend on reports. You got to get out there and take the knowledge you receive here and turn it into experience. That can only come from fishing not being upset and wondering whats wrong with you because they are not biting like they are suppose to.
