  1. Countryred------ I think you know exactly how to brush. so many people do not and just create a mess. Just recently a fella here obtained a whole big stack of 2 in flexible plastic pipe from of the untilities in the area free. He Secured them in a 55 gal trash can. The pipe was bent over and made the whole bed look like the top of a umbrella 12 or 14 ft wide. I was looking at it and mentioned to him he might want to drill some hole at the top of the beds to bled air. NO he said it was not need anything like thaf. He also was to plant this monster next to his dock. The bottum there drops fast. I suggested he cable the thing to the dock. NO again it would stay there. Last I heard it was a 40 ft and leaving town. I think i still a picture of it. I will post if I do.
  2. My primary choicd is the tops of big oaks when I can get them. You know how up high you can see those garly limbs. That what I like. There is a big oak a couple houses down from me that has to be taken down because of borers. I know the tree man and he tells me because it is so close to a big house they are going to cut it in pieces and remove it in stages. He said he will try to cut the garly libs of for me. I plan to haul them out into the lake and drop them in 30 ft of water one after the other on top and beside. If everything goes I hope to have winter time crappie bed. I bet this bed be no less than 20 ft long. There are allready beds from it moving up towards a spwasing area. Crpie being a crazy species they do bot a.ways follow it but the bass are on that trail all summer long. Someone mentioned that you cannot brush a COE lake. Clearwater issuch a place and where i learned to brush at the hands. of master over 40 yrs ago. Ingot a. otion there is brish pile in all those lakes that were not COE authorized. On LOZ just about everyone brushes.
  3. Yeah I would like like to know that too. I have had that happen several times after busting my butt to get the brish to the right spot.
  4. Oh that is a backbreaking job. I prefer oak and hickory in whole limbs about 4 inches are a little larger. They go down real fast and that helps a lot with getting good placement. Cedar has to be weighted even when full of sap. Even weighted it will sometimes walk off on the bottom as well do to current and topography. I have no doubt the board and plank will work. Sometimes I think anything has to do is make a break for its surrounding to attact fish. Then again I have seen people put in fish attractors that never attract fish other than sunfish.

All those very detailed tatoos will not look like that 30 or40 yrs from now.
  6. Whatever you fish know it well. I do not believe Its what you fish as much as how well you understand and use it. Just about 90 % of my fishing is with jigs type baits, plastic worms and a occasional Rogue. They about cover everything and I understand them the best. That rogue can catch some awful bif crappie this time of year. I hope to go out tomorrow of the docks around here for crappoe. The rouge will be with me on one of the rods you can bet.
  7. The heading of this thread kind of gets me. WHERE All THE FISH RIGHT NOW. How can anyone answer that question. Reports give you ageneral idea of what was happening or what the seasonal pattern should be. You can never be sure it is what is going to happen. That is one reasons I never give reports. As a example. A couple days ago with the water temperature hovering at 40 degrees and ice around the banks the crappie here at LOZ were being caught in good numbers and sizes under a bobber at 2-3 ft over deep drop offs. It does say enough and it is a very undependable winter pattern. Reports make me feel a little responsible.
  8. I do not tie flys. But the shape of that is much the shape I am trying to develop in my in my Bucktail jigs. .
  9. when I was 62 I could bench press 220 lb pretty easy. I thought I was going to never get old like a lot of people I knew. Iwas wrong. I thought as long as I was getting a lot of exercise nothing much would bother me. I was wrong again. What I did not realize is that heritary things were going to catch up with me no matter what I did. Mine caught up wih me. It limits my hours out fishing. Just go out there and fish while tou can and try to enjoy every minute of it. Wrench-----When Orion gets large enough to pee in that plant pot of your wifes like I ben telling him. He will totally rule that house hold. Hype or not.
  10. I had it several times. When I did I would put a wrist support where the pain is. Some of those supports come with a little pad in them. You press that right on top of where it hurts then wrap the support on top of it and wrap it tight. A lot of drug store have them. They are a 2 or 3 inches wide and connect with velcro. Then just flip nd pitch for awhile. You can really pitch a good distance with little effort with a spinning real. I wish I could do something that simple. I cannot stand and fish for more than a hour or so. And temperatures from 45 on down will turn my hands to ice even in gloves
  11. I agree with Wrench about the shad color. Never seem to have a need for anything else. Maybe a little flash in the sun might help. Gavin ---Drop in and see Ed up in Lairie at Ozark outfitters they were stocking the walls with them yeasterday.

The courts and the law do awful lot of that. Sometimes prosecutors and defenders are all on rhe same page money wise if you get my drift.

Hong Kong 1958. This is what they look likt on 70-80 yr olds. The writting is USS ESSEX 1958. This was done with a bamboo needle.
  14. Abkeenan---- I might just try and stop by there and get a few my next time through washington. I get down to Washington every couple of months.
  15. I clearly inderstand toir reason GayW that has a lot to do why we are here. My son is in Weldon Springs and my daugher isin Herman. Go up to St Kouis and Herman 1 time a month or more.
  16. I have been looking at those wobble head jigs I think I will buy a few Friday when I go down to Pro Bass and Academy in springfield. I looked today at Wallmart but all they had were 1/8. I would like a couple other sizes as well. I think I could make my own messing with the jig mold a bit. I think I might be able to place a large swivel in the hook hole an use a large split ring for the hook. I believe it would offer about as good a retrieve.
  17. I know of several people wanting tovsell but they are holding because of price. I net you have fished my doxk several times. i wil gibe you a privatecmsg where it is at.
  18. Yes it is funny unlessyou live in the middle of the the party places and have hit deer 4 times and 1 turkey and several squirrels. Only thing we have not hot is a Armadillo. Believe me they can do some real expensive damage to cars.
  19. So does the Elks Lodge have beer. its cheaper. That lodge has are very large bar, two walk in coolers and a walk in freezer. If you happen to be a Elk its a place to go. For a little town of around 700-800 it will outshine just about any lodge in the state. Selected as National lodge winner 6 times. I totally agree with Wrench about the law enforcement. The patrolman that was patrolman that was involved in the big drowning here atarted out in the Laurie police Dept. and the Morgan County sherif is to be avoided like a plague. As far as Bryant's goes, It is a quality place ( your wife will love shopping in there) to visit designed a lot like Pro Bass on the inside. But like wrench said they do not carry a whole lot of fishing things except high end Rods and Reels. Ed services all rods and reels. And I am certain your best shot at getting something like that repaired if you need to. You can alao get custom lure painting done there. I understand the stock thing. All the shops around the lake are caught in that vise. That is because they cannot compete with the volumn purchase price of the Wallmart stores in Camdenton,Osage beach and Versailles.
  20. in my area we have many nice home both small and large. How much can you pay and what about your monthly expenses. I live on Ceder Point point about 200 yards from where that kid drowned. It can be very ruff down here on the weekends. You might want to look for a place back in some of the coves. If your figuring on retiring. Its is a good place for that. They are well on their way to installing sewers on this side of the lake. But they will cost you a mandantory $60 bucks. a month year round. There is a awful lot for you to consider when buying a home out here. A condo might be better for you. By the way when you talk about Gravois Mills your talking about a area extending all the way down to Laurie. Gravois Mills is a very poverty ridden area. The little tiny town of Lurie is one of the best small towns around this lake. Weekendwarroir in is right about the roads in places.
  21. Seth ------ that has happened !!!! If your fmiliar with LOZ you might know of Mill Stone Marina. a few years back we had a sever Ice and snow storm ant the weight of it overcame the floatation of the dock and the dock sank down right on top of the boats. In another instance about 3 years ago we had a weather burst with straight line winds of over 100 mph in a very very narrow band. It hit a large marine dock about 150 dt long and flipped the whole works dock boats and everything.
  22. Yeah seth got 3 within 1/8 of a mile cost over 1/2 milion. but they can afford to pay for those boats. Crazy thing about those people with the big cruisers they will pay hundreds to millions of bucks for one of those thoings and then only insure them for a few summer months.
  23. You kbow when I stared out ocer 60 yrs ago I can not ever remember anyone having a domesttic provlems from fishiing. But since since the 70s I have seen several. I have known men buy a big expensive boats and tackle and let there family live in a shack because its cheaper housing and things of that sort. I do bot want to be part of that type thing. I try to keep my priorities in order.
  24. I was just communicating this kindof thing to someone through E-mail about this. Eve I do believe ll the hulabloo over fihing is the cause of the prices we see today accross the liine in anything to do with fishing. Wrench That word elite does not mean thing to me. I know some awful good bass fisherman( you included) that could have competed very well with the so called elite but turned there backs on the whole darn thing It is no skin off my nose, but I get so tired of all thee high priced rods , reel and lures. I have mentioned on here before knowing someone that repairs fishing tackle for a living. I wish some of you could see how many of these very expensive reels fail. I rarely see the old Gracias waiting for repair. I seem to see a lot of problems with very expensive rods as well.
