  1. As strange it sounds panicked and could not find up from down. If that was the case she would use air her air very fast. I do not think I would wanted a dice party out there if the water was murky. you could get lost 5 ft apart.
  2. I fished it when it was brand new. My wifes family came into the area around Steelville in covered wagons in the early 1800's. They were blacksmiths and one was a baptist preacher and curcuit rider. The last of them ended up settled in Leasburg. We used to go put there to visit a lot when we were first married. that was where my love for the Meramec came from. I used to spend more time on that river than visiting A LOT MORE.
  3. I has too go tow in my neighbor on her pontoon friday. Got back to the dock and looked down at the key to try to turn it over and the and she had pulled the kill switch loose. 2nd time. She is a big lady and I think it gets squeezed out. I forgot about the first time a few years ago. Only had to go about two miles though round Had some pretty bad boaters up here this weekend. They violated catch ,running after dark on wave runners ,improper lighting, speeding at night. I seen several that had to be drunk some were totally lost. One group stopped by me to ask directions. I guess they could not read the 2 in high orange letters on the the boat near the license number that spell deaf. But they kept asking. I told them go down lake about 2 miles and turn into that large cove on the left. Never seen hide nor hair of a patrolman all weekend long.
  4. I am headed out in about 30 minutes and willnot be back till about 9pm. Not fishing known areas this evening. Going to snoop into some ares i never see fishermen in.
  5. Its nota lite weekend they are sitting home waiting for next weekend.
  6. What I find most interesting in the post above is how it points to different styles of fishing. Some work shallows and some work deep. What it goes to show is. Bass are where you find them. I think here on LOZ the docks provide cooling cover. In turn bluring the line between deep and shallow fishing opertunities. I also know that poor fishing spot or stretches often or not. If i know of a area that most of the fishermen do bot frequent it attacts me. There has got to be bass there but there also has to be a key to it. I mentioned this before but it really points out how strange the bass behavior might be right under our noses. A week or so ago Wrench was fishing a area just a couple miles up from me. We were fishing alike ways. He was catching his fish out in the bright sunlight in the early afternoon. The bite was over about 5:30 pm for him. With me the bite did not even start until well after 6 PM. I have never noticed anything like that before. I believe there there is a great lesson to be learned from that however if I could just figure out what sparked the time differance.
  7. Joe tou will have a msg shortly
  8. They will be doing it up here as well. suppose we will have bar owners all up in arms. According to the paper here they will be boarding without cause. inspecting them from one end to the other.
  9. I am all confused by the modern rod action descriptions. So I just went and googled them. I do not understand Lite, ultra lite medium etc because to me it seem to relate mare to the rods strength than the action. I think what WARFRAT is looking for is what they describe as a moderate action in the (as described in the google chartI looked at) of medium strength. I think the outfits like St Croix still build the that way. will cost you a pretty penny though. But your pretty limited on the others.
  10. I did Ok last evening between pink up time and we were off the water by 9:30 pm. We had 7 fish and 4 keepers. One was over 3 lbs. I got a notion that the feeding slot is from Pink up till about 11 pm. I was using a 11" plastic worm on 12 lb test line and a 3/16 oz. slip sinker. Got to fish that real slow. But it is real good getting though brush etc. It kind of forces you to fish slowly.
  11. Its the flash of the spinner that does it. You can catch feeding white bass with nothing on it.
  12. Oh i know about a good time. I really enjoy fishing.
  13. i used ugly stik from day one and still do. I did not like the feel of the new ones I seen. They were really heavy. They should have kept the Pro Lite line and offered more models and actions.
  14. Ouillback----- It sure is effective but sort of a nasty thing to land good sized fish with the way most use it with hook attached. I think it would be much safer with the hooks all off.
  15. Sounds like your ip here at LOZ. The lake is jammed ful of those little shad. Black bass turn their noses up sometimes at anything including spoons when they get on that tiny minnow feed around here.
  16. I do not know if it qualifies as a meter rig but around here people use a big black jitterbug instead of a spook and troll it. Can be very effective for white bass.
  17. I buy volumn. Then some ofvthe stuff will lakst me a couple years. In the spring when the crappie are biting I fish 4-6. hoirs a day with roadrunners every day 7 days a week If i can. and i do bot miss but very few.
  18. I got about 100 of those in my locker in 1/16 and 1/8 sizes mostly for crappie fishing. I just use plastic on them. One of the best is the tiny fluke around here. It seems to attract larger crappie.
  19. I bet it has. I do not do it anymore but I am sire they are on the night shift in a big way
  20. That cast master is a good spoon. So is the bomber slab spoon, There are a lot of fine spoons out there. Champ that is about the only place i use spoons is bottom bumping. Around here big catfish will move in under whites and I am always looking for that bonus thrill that comes with doing that. Though I deliberately use spoons to catch catfish sometimes.
  21. They are rising in a very wide area just at the mouth of Gladstone hollow. They look small to me. I have seen people trolling for them about 6:30 int ht evening. It is kind of a different rise. sort of spread out over a wide area. I might hook up with a spoon and go check it out this evening. I believe they are all small. WARFRAT------- I never fish for them in the mornings. To busy with our garden. I like evenings. You mentioned the day you was down at the place they were suppose to be but did not see any. The thing is all the flashy stuff that goes on on the surface often is happening down deeper and further out and you just do not see it . You can get them on spoons when that happens or deep trolling plugs. I jig them straight down. I especially like it where the there white bass or slashing and you see funny arches on the bottom. They are usually catfish cleaning up the left overs and they will slap hell out of that spoon jigged on the bottom in there face. Good way to catch some really big ones.
  22. I have had trouble with pro bas rods snapping.. I remember one time I had a 6 ft"er i was fishing with on a cold winter day and was driving a cast and it broke in. 4 pieces. Felt like a pistol went off in my hand. Snapping was one of the reasons I went to Ugly Stik. i have been using thee different Cherrywood H D rods this season that I really like. They were so cheap $25 bucks if one snaps I can by another. I will see. i do not connect price to quality or duability.
  23. CHAMP----- I hope your right about it being forward looking. I just wonder what you do in a few years when you have trapped under there. it will build hp and something will have to give. Maybe it will just go straight down into the ground. and not really trapped at all.
  24. I thin, they might just have been spending a lot of money to give the lot a ozark like feel. In the lower picture in the lower right corner it looks like it either was bot done are some of it is poor workmanship
  25. Crittermo------ I like to do that at times but being between two popular bars its tough on the weekends. I also have tooooo much to hook up with a with a small freight train. Another good hot weather past time I like is taking out my rope lures and going after big gar in the evenings when I can find a school of them rolling.I do not think they a tougher than carp but they real hard and take off like like a bullet. You need good HEAVY glose when landing them. they have 4 rows of teeth in those choppers. two rows stick out diagonally.
