  1. looking forward to following along. Hope you are able to hammer a big brown on your "special" jerkbait....
  2. As I'm building up my beginners fly box for Taneycomo I look all over for flies. I need to learn how to tie midges at some point but for now I've been buying flies from Jeremy Hunt on his website and he ties some awesome stuff. I also look on ebay quite a bit. I notice on ebay there are Epoxy Midges.....they look pretty awesome to me. Question is, has anyone fished one and what are the advantages or disadvantages to an Epoxy Midge vs a Regular tied midge?
  3. Duane your doing great work and all of us except one obviously love seeing it and the success you are having with them. I know I for one enjoy and check this thread several times a day, some of us have to live "thru" you till we can get down there a few precious trips per year. Share away buddy, you do great work and tell a great tale! Your also one of the happiest and friendliest faces on the lake. I loved seeing you on the lake a couple weeks ago each day, always greeting with a smile and a wave.
  4. Happy Birthday Phil. Wish I was going to be down there, sounds like a great day!
  5. Thanks guys. Never heard of such a thing. Good info, appreciate it.
  6. They aren't actually on the hook? How do they get hooked then? Any pictures for reference by chance?
  7. That looks great Duane!
  8. That's a great article written by a really good guy that's on here Ryan. So the question is, are they done stocking them in Taney or are they going to continue? I sure hope they continue but it looks like it's been a few years since they have done so. Maybe someone can ask Shane Bush for that answer.
  9. Thank you so much. Pretty cool stuff
  10. I gotta figure out how to small the picture down but I'll figure it out
  11. I catch rainbows in the lower lake around it all the time. especially with alittle current running they seem to just stay inside of it and will come right out of it like bass and eat a jig. I think it gives them a current break plus cover to hide in and a lot of bait use it as well.
  12. those look awesome, you going to do this in a jerkbait or more thinking about crankbaits since the scuplins are mainly on the bottom and the crankbait will be dragging the bottom?
  13. tjm I don't believe there is an industry standard. My main thing I look for on spinning reels regardless of size or brand is a good wide spool to reduce the line twist. That's just my 2 cents on them and it's worked for me for years.
  14. Had a great conversation with Don Frank on the phone, based on the recommendations from Doug and also that Phil uses him that's about as good as you can get in my book. The only sad thing is, if you kill this fish it saves you about $200 but it's money well spent to watch them swim away if you ask me. Pretty sure at this point I'm going to go with him, he sent me pictures of his work and it looks amazing.
  15. I sent Don an email a couple of days ago but haven't heard back yet. I'm getting quotes from 12 an inch to 25 an inch so far......upper range is $650 for the fish, that's 200 bucks more than I paid for my last deer. Some are also saying 10 to 12 months to complete as well on the fish.
  16. Thanks for the suggestion I have sent him an email for a quote. I'm open to as many suggestions as possible so keep them coming folks.
  17. I was fortunate to catch a really nice rainbow last week and worked very hard to release her alive (see the upper taney forum). I got some good pictures and measurements so I can get a replica made. I have Brett Rader giving me a quote but wondered whom else I should consider getting a quote from? I've seen a wide variety of prices just looking around. I want it to be a good replica as I probably won't ever even get close to one that size again. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. travis
  18. Back from taneycomo, when I threw flies it was a double midge set up. Caught a ton of fish and had a blast. All my fish except 1 came on the bottom fly. We had a blast!
  19. I use 6'6 SOS trout rods and whatever 1000 series reels I can find that have a nice wide spool to decrease line twist. Most I have currently are Shimano I believe. The rods are 35 bucks. But like the other guys said anything 6' to 6'6 to 7 ft will work great. I want enough backbone to get a good hook set but enough play to not break the 2 pound test. Don't be scared of it, it's alot stronger line than it sounds and will get you a ton more bites. Good luck and great fishing
  20. I saw 3 different Browns this weekend that I believe were over 20 pounds each and one of those was maybe pushing 30. Two of those followed baits up to my boat.. They look like submarines. I was getting fish pretty good one of my cheap jerkbaits that I modified and then lost it....
  21. You can be my net man anytime brother!
  22. Thanks Marty I appreciate it my friend
  23. These are really good scales I have so I'm pretty confident in them. Honestly my board goes 24 inches and she was over that by quite a bit. She may well had been 26 plus but I felt like 25 was fair and the fish care was my most important thing at the time. I wanted her alive terribly bad. Phil i think I saw this fish yesterday while fly fishing but the brown I told you about was bigger than this fish for sure. The fish was thick as could be all the way to the tail. Picture doesn't show that but again I was hell bent on keeping her alive if at all possible.
  24. I just caught my biggest trout ever. Caught her in the restricted area on 2 pound test and a jig I pour and tie myself. 25 inches long. 10lbs 12oz. Went under the boat 3 times and I had to stick my rod in the water almost to the reel all 3 times. We missed her with the net twice. Soon as we got her in the net the jig popped out. I have been coming to taneycomo several times a year for over 30 years to catch a fish like this. I wanted to take her to Lilleys but we simply didn't want to risk killing the fish. We were very careful with the fish care and we have under water go pro video of her swimming off which we are very proud of.
