  1. nah not yet, been to busy to try. looking forward to It though.
  2. I didn't create this pattern but It looked like a really good one to tie. it is supposed to represent a drowned cranefly. the beadhead allows it to be jigged I based mine as closely as I could to the craneflies we have around here. (minus the beadhead and holofoil obviously) recipe as follows: size 8 2x hook. knotted pheasant tail legs 1 black hackle 1 natural hackle holographic foil 2 short strands of pearl krystal flash 1 brass beadhead.
  3. of course man anyone can join. Glad to have you aboard. Remember your fishing your own fly.
  4. just looking for a couple more people...
  5. good to have you guys aboard! Yeah I was wanting to keep this purely Dollar store. It seems like it would add extra challenge to the game if we had to exclude places with better selection.
  6. sure as long as you count dollar store eyes from your budget your good. ( I was thinking of doing that myself ) good to have you aboard Flysmallie
  7. hey guys I was sitting around tying flies last weekend and started looking at all of my fly tying material. I'm sure you guys can relate, large amounts of materials with who knows how many dollars tied up in it. So I started naturally thinking of simplicity. Which led me to the idea for this game. I'm looking for about five participants or ten if there are enough people interested. If this game goes well, maybe we could play a brown trout version later in the year. Anyway here is the rules: 1.All materials MUST come from a dollar store. 2.All players are allowed a $3 budget (tax not included) 3.Hooks are free 4. Glue/head cement are free. 5.Lead for wrapping is free. 6.Markers are free. (sharpies, prisma, etc.) 7.Thread is free, but limited to black, green, olive, brown, red, and white. (Any other colors of thread must be bought with your budget) 8.Since this is the Bass version of the game mono is free for weedguards. 9. Any materials not listed as free (i.e. Krystal flash, dubbing, holo-eyes, etc.) are not allowed. So the game goes as this, following the rules above everyone buys their choice of materials from their local Dollar store flyshop.Once you have your items you tie whatever fly pattern you can come up with using your budgeted items and your free items (hooks, thread, mono, glue, lead, markers). Considering the nature of Dollar stores these creations might be a bit odd by the end of it . After that the goal is simply to see who can catch the largest Bass with their flies. LM, SM or Spotted. All are in play. All players must list the materials they bought (photos of supplies if possible), post a photo/name of their finished fly, and post photos of their caught fish. Since this is all for fun I hope everyone will use the honor system and be honest about supplies/catches. This is NOT a swap, we will all tie and use our own flies. Well if anyone is interested drop a line and we will get this underway. I was thinking the deadline for last caught fish would be August 31th. Players: (I will also be playing) 1. FlySmallie 2. Fishinwrench 3. Lancer09 4. ScottK 5.
  8. true, all im saying is I hope good Neosho trout aren't getting shipped down there to feed birds. (we could use them here gladly )
  9. lol your kidding right if a heron can eat fish that size of course it can go to town on trout. they aren't that cautious a lot of the time. I have literally petted the broods at Neosho fish hatchery many times. they easily could have been in my bill.
  10. i couldn't care less at all about being politically correct, in fact I honestly hope I never am as I feel it is killing us as a society. however call it resource conservation if you must. plus hey who knows heron pellets may make big trout. I cite the following as my rebuttal: (please note the species of fish in the first photo) the prosecution rests.
  11. sorry for the late reply but this is something I have noticed to. I say we should shoot them. there is in no way any shortage of Herons. That said trout are paid for with tax dollars and I would prefer if people (even if they aren't me) got them. A salmon documentary showed how stocked populations of salmon are preyed upon by legions of seagulls which have themselves become a major problem. I would hate to see that happen around here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTCQ2IA_Zss also this months issue of Missouri conservationist had a request by mdc to ideas as to how conservation should be focused in Missouri. Someone should bring this up with them. current issue: http://mdc.mo.gov/conmag
  12. kind of my thoughts to, a guy I work with swears up and down he is going to get a haul of them this year.
  13. so I have heard rumors for a while that white bass run up shoal creek on the Missouri side. I would like to get out and fly fish for some this year, does anyone know if white bass run up shoal and possibly where/when?
  14. I couldn't tell you. the lowest my scale reads is 1gram and they're less than that. after the dubbing soaks up some water they sink great though. I've heard they are deadly for bass, I went with a size 6 though b/c people fish for so many species in ponds/creeks/lakes. they look awesome when jigged
  15. alright done Mic, . im sure they will produce. let me know where and when to send. also let me know what you guys think...
  16. make sure you don't wait till summer. there is literally more people in elk river than there is water. think bowl of cereal and milk. one big drunk bowl of cereal.
  17. FINALLY got my package from bass pro yesterday (took 15 days and I only live an hour from springfield ). Anyway I am gearing up to tie my flies, here is the first of the wooly grubbers (which I tied in my best Crappie colors) hope you guys like 'em
  18. changed my mind, If I end up with the last pond spot I will tie these: the Mata-Crappie. tied this to test my wifes new Christmas present. (New camera works great)
  19. this reminded me of a question I had, if you have a lifetime non resident fishing license for Oklahoma do you still have to purchase trout tags?
  20. those look great Johnny, very excited to try those out . Hey Mic if nobody else takes the last pond spot I will fill it to. I want to wait though incase somebody else wants in. That way somebody who isn't already in the trade has a chance to enter. So if no takers come forth i'll tie my Tiger popper. just wait to fill the spot for a bit though.
  21. lol that's pretty much what I was thinking about.
  22. okay thanks Tim I really appreciate the info, one more question though. What is the reason to make that section of the river off limits? also I had a question not relating to this I sent It to you in a PM though.
  23. this is all I can find about it: Http://mdc.mo.gov/node22477 but I have also seen tagged trout (which I saw no mdc mention of) didn't catch them though........
  24. hey Tim I have a hard time following all the C &R stuff down there. is zone 3 catch and release this time of year or catch and keep? or is it just the area down below the park? or is the area below the park still zone 3? everything past that dam confuses me.
