  2. I wish more people would label and do their lines correctly too, but some just don't bother. WettinLIne ,to me it sounds like you "took" that trotline, it wasn't your line and you took it . marked or unmarked , did you have permission to mess with other people's property? I think legally only a game warden can do it. What if a warden had pulled you over while you had that "illegal" trotline in your boat ? so "line cutters" are just asking for trouble really, sooner or later you'll cross paths with the owner when cutting one and they won't be very nice about it. I quit night jugging and trot lining a few years ago because of people always cutting my lines when they get hung up in it, or stealing them. Got tired of replacing expensive stainless hooks every time somebody helped themselves , or cut the lines..You can't leave anything unattended around, or in the water "these days", and it's getting worse.
  3. the lake is very healthy right now, and the future looks bright I saw what looked like schools of shad on the depth finder, dropped the aqua vu camera down there and it's NOT shad but thousands of litttle bass, crappie, gills.
  4. I use a Lowrance x4 pro it's inexpensive, simple to operate. 8 or 10 AA rechargeable batteries in a battery holder works great for powering small units. I get a few days of fishing out of a full charge, here's one example http://www.hobiecat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=42348
  5. very cool, thank you
  6. that's a good time man, thanks for posting hate that the big bass got away though
  7. no, but we plan on going back sooner or later and might head up the creek then
  8. We launched at Beaver Creek Marina around 8am idled across the lake and started fishing. Left all the heavy tackle at home and focused on light line, light rods, and small finesse baits. Had the best luck on 1/32 hair jigs tipped with honey worms, pearl swimming minnows on 3/32 chartreuse heads, slider worms on 1/16 heads, and rooster tails. We caught dozens of short bass, and some were keepers., but just barely, gills of all sizes, and one 14" walleye. Pretty steady action while following the channel. Quit about noon. It was a great day for numbers and was really fun on ultra light gear! Everything was released.
  9. bet this lure would work great right now. Matches the hatch perfectly. won't be long before I get my hands on some
  10. http://www.swl.usace.army.mil/Missions/Planning/BullShoalsLakeMasterPlanRevision.aspx The Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District, is revising the Bull Shoals Lake Master Plan. The master plan guides the management of the government lands around the lake. The master plan affects future management of natural resources and recreational opportunities to ensure the sustainability of Bull Shoals Lake.
  11. there's a lot of people using pool cues for their umbrellas, that's cool so long as it's somwehat forgiving. if you 're not using a parabolic action rod when using umbrella rigs you WILL lose fish you might of otherwise caught...and you will not cast as far as you could w/o it. super stiff rods that don't bend are what you DON'T want (note the parabolic bend)
  12. HFCS710XD this is a big stick, capable of more than just crankbaiting.
  13. 658.91 stained light wind Daylight until about 10-10:30. Up the feeder creeks again. Lots of food around. Immediately a large group of minnows gobbled down some Texas toast I tossed in the water while I ate a breakfast sandwich before launching. Fish were already busting on top when I arrived and were scattered up and down about a 200yd stretch of creek channel. There were white egrets and blue herons walking up and down the banks fishing and that's a good sign. After using topwaters and doing well I wanted to show them something that I thought would really "match the hatch " and maybe get a few big bites so I used a YUM flashmob jr with the tiny blades and finesse swimbaits. The bass were active and paid no attention to me in the canoe. Man did they really want that jr. rig! They were eating this years shad fry, about 3/4"-1" long, sometimes biting within just a couple feet of me for some great visual fun! Was fishing that rig on 12lb mono and a 7'mh rod fan casting in 6-12fow. keepin it up in the zone.Everything was released.
  14. oh well, you'll have better luck next time.
  15. probably both. Some stay, some leave. Quite a few hangin around since april
  16. Wt 80 659.16 light stain On the water before 6am, stayed until around 10:00am both days. Got into a good early bite both trips on custom made/painted topwaters. Smaller baits like a tiny torpedo, an 3/16 oz buzzbait, and a Zara Puppy. Had 7 keeper lmb Friday morn, 5 keeper lmb Saturday morn. No Brownies or Kentuckies. All released. Instead of hitting the creeks again I went to the back of a couple deep hollows, boat sitting in 6' or less adj. to "deeper" water. There were tight pods of minnows present in both hollows. Didn't see any shad or very many gills there, just hundreds and hundreds of minnows. If you ran a bait through those minnows they would panic, scatter, and that would trigger a bite. Some of the bass were also hiding under the green buck in just inches of water. I'd cast the buzz bait off to the side and the bass would swim out, chase it down and eat it. Make long accurate casts and be quiet
  17. tha BX is a great bait, thanks Quillback for another fine post
  18. bang, squeal & burn catch the "summer buzz"
  19. thx ,xlnt report, xj ! is that a mean mouth bass?
  20. 659.79 heavy stain 84 sunny windy So I failed to set my alarm to get up early so I wasn't on the water until 9am. I flipped a coin to see which spot I would bass fish and wound up N. of Theodosia and spent a few hours up there. Started out in 2' on a gravel flat throwing a crankbait and blade and caught 1- 14" spot on the blade, one short spot on the crank and that was it for the shallow biters. I had been catching some nice topwater bass early on the flats but it was almost 9:30 w/ a high sky when I made my first cast up shallow. Time to move out deeper. Found the channel in 6' and followed it out to 15' ,about 100yds. throwing a 3/8 Super Shad blades, dt4,dt6, and dt10 cranks. That's where they were, out in the creek bed. Only other fishermen around was a bald eagle and a kingfisher. Came in around 1:30.
  21. wow bluff, that goes to show how fast they spread !
  22. tasty catfish nuggets!! always wanted to spearfish, health problems
  23. I don't know what area of the lake your fishing but on the Arkansas side I hear the walleye fishing has been good for quality but not quantity this summer. Long line trolling deep cranks has been the "go to" this year. Water is clear and fish are spooky so getting the baits away from the boat(200ft+) on a long line has worked better than lead core or bottom bouncing. Fish are being caught in and around 30' suspended above trees or on/near bottom. Walleye are always on the go and that makes it even harder to get on em. I've seen days where you make a few trolling passes across a point and you see no fish on the screen. Come back 2 hrs. later ,see and catch walleye... About those mussels, from what I gathered they are on the upper end from Forsyth down to the ferry. I have not seen any anywhere else .
  24. http://www.kdockmarina.com/fishingreport/ Crappie – Good on live minnows in 10 to 15 ft under trees, logs and around brush piles. Also being caught while trolling in 20 ft of water on a variety of small to medium crank baits. Crappie are scattered throughout the lake and are hanging deep in this clear water. (This should get you pointed in the right direction)
