Had to drive to Cabool on bidness yesterday. Made a point to pack the rod and waders. On the way back, I hit the LP after accidentally missing the turnoff for the Current while talking to my boss. Was kinda mad about it, but kept driving back north toward Rolla because I was losing daylight and wanted to be home in time for the game. So I fished near Lane Spring for a couple hours and let me tell you -- the weather was a bit raw but the river GAVE IT UP. Caught a couple dozen fish at will including this 17-18 inch wild beauty. My opinion, but the LP could be Missouri's most under-rated trout water.

Hawn is a great little park.

How'd we miss you, Ken?

He was a fishing machine all weekend.

Nice turkeys, SB!! I'll add one for Fishin Foto Friday. A picture of my boy and one of the many trout he caught last weekend down on the 11 pt:

Nice pictures. Some fishy looking water for sure.

Driftless Trip Report & Video
ColdWaterFshr replied to Brian Wise's topic in General Angling Discussion
Just giving you a hard time, Brian. Videos of wild flowers and men fly-fishing in pink plaid and filming themselves doing it . . . well, it was more than Paul Dallas could bear. Hoping that the Chippewa video has you wearing solid earth tones, or ratty old flannel, and the crunching guitars of some old Iron Maiden for background music as you pull in giant duck-eating muskies. -
Sorry, wrong guy. SOMEONE had a big green driftboat and a ghetto blaster, not at full volume, but loud enough that you could hear it clearly from a couple hundred feet away. They were fishing along and the Beatles Hard Days Night was playing and it struck us as a little bit odd, rocking out while fly-fishing on the 11 pt. This was probably around 2 or 3 on saturday afternoon. Get an ipod, Rumblefish! Also saw a couple jetboats go by. One guy was going downstream, standing up in his jetboat and not going fast enough to be fully up on plane, and he beached it pretty hard on some gravel, almost face-planting himself in his boat.

I was joking. We had a discussion a few months back about Shoal Creek and a troublesome landowner there and his trespass claims against just about everyone.

Shoal Creek!

Ozark Trail has sections that go along the Current and Eleven Point. There's also some hiking along the North Fork.

Brian - do you have a green drift boat with a rumblefish sticker? Whats up with the tunes blaring? Was that at your clients request?

Driftless Trip Report & Video

Nice work! You guys really go to a lot of effort setting up some of those shots and then editing it and putting it all together. I enjoyed it thoroughly but I'm wondering if the fishing isn't taking a back seat to the cinematography? And <gasp> did I see a pink shirt? And what's up with the birds drinking the wine as you are preparing to leave? Are they celebrating? -
Been a while since I fished above Greer. Only thing I could guess is that it was a BRIGHT weekend. Not a cloud in the sky that I remember seeing. Posted up a couple pictures in my last post. I do remember someone asking if dinner was ready. We ate like kings. Big bacon, egg, hash browns breakfast, big steak dinners w/ baked potatoes, fajitas, pudding, pineapple upside down cake in the dutch oven with a little Oban scotch, good beer, baileys and coffee. Kids were wound up tight on Mtn Dew. had to keep them from devolving into Lord of the Flies with all the rocks they were throwing around.

I was there this past weekend with a slew of kids and ad-dults. Had a great time and you're right JD, it was a picture perfect weekend. We camped 2 nights at the gravel bar across from Little Hurricane. Fishing wasn't easy, but we caught a couple dozen without working too hard. And crazy thing -- the kids outfished the adults. My 7-yr old nephew G brought in a fat 16 incher near the put-in all on his own. Then my 11-year old boy pulled in a fish on his zebco, right behind where I was wading and whipping the water with my buggy whip. Later, he did it again at Little Mary Decker pulling in a 17 incher, the biggest out of everyone in our group. Mostly we lounged, ate, swam and collected lizards, sculpins, and frogs. I was busy looking after my brother-in-law and nephew who made the trip all the way from Green Bay. Had to ask some floaters on Saturday what happened in the Phillies-Cards game because we couldn't get a signal on the cell or even AM radio. Lots of people out this past weekend for sure. Saw 2 or 3 drift boats, several groups of day-floaters and campers floated by.

Ozark Hellbender Now An Endangered Species

Saw a baby one on the Jacks Fork near Alley Spring last year. I read something about the active ingredient in antibacterial soaps, it doesn't break down and is found throughout whole watersheds and in a variety of different fish and other water critters, messes with their reproductive systems, androgynous smallmouth bass, etc. -

Hate to do this, but I don't see myself meeting the deadline even if you gave me another week. Way too much going on and probably never should've signed up in the 1st place. Sorry guys. -
Blue Springs Creek - Fishing Report 9-25

Is the slingshot the same as the bow and arrow cast? If so, don't do it. I found myself at BSC one fine day last fall in a situation that refused to allow me to use my graceful backcast or even a roll-cast . . . and then I remembered that little tip about slingshotting that some old FFF harridan had taught me. What did it get me? A size 6 foam hopper impaled well past the bend of the hook in my left thumb. -
Good picture. Love those old slab bridges.

Boundary Waters,/northern Minnesota Info Request
ColdWaterFshr replied to Mark's topic in U.S.A. - North & East Regions
I've heard good things about Lake of the Woods and other northern Minnesota waters, but really couldn't give you any specifics because I've never been there. I went to the BWCA last July for only 4 days. . I absolutely LOVED it and cannot wait to go back. But to be honest, the BWCA doesn't sound like a perfect fit for what you are looking for, except for the good fishing part. Being that it is a wilderness area, no motorized boats of any kind are allowed. No roads, no cars, no motels . . . just wilderness. Even came across a park ranger and he was paddling in a canoe and portaging just as we were. You have to rough it in the BWCA and that is a big part of the whole experience. I suppose you could get lodging in Ely and break up a weeks stay into a couple shorter trips out of there, but that would be missing the whole point of the BWCA. The idea there is to get with an outfitter, get set-up with your canoes, your portage packs, your camping gear, and then pick an entry point that is available (not already booked), and go as far back into the wilderness as you can. Its a lot of work, but also very, very rewarding. Ely, MN is pretty much the launching point for most BWCA trips. Very small town with a handful of restaurants, and a couple dozen outfitters from which to choose. My advice if you plan to do a lot of portaging, buck up and rent the kevlar canoes! Let me know if I can answer any other questions. -
Got A New Watercraft...
ColdWaterFshr replied to Al Agnew's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Cool boats for sure. I've seen them a couple times down on the Eleven Point. From a distance, I thought, what the heck? big man in a little rubber raft, but as they got closer, I saw their legs dangling from underneath and was intrigued. Looked like a slick way to go, sorta wade and float your way around. Would be ideal for Eleven Point or North Fork like you said, Al. -

Paul Dallas is in. Something inarticulate and no guarantees of fish. -
I'm in. Not sure what I'll tie yet though.

Felt Soled Waders Banned In Mo Trout Waters!
ColdWaterFshr replied to jdmidwest's topic in General Angling Discussion
Check my geography EG, but the White River system runs through Missouri, and the part that is infected is just a couple of hillsides away in Arkansas from pristine streams like the Current, Eleven Point, North Fork OF THE WHITE, etc, etc. Its like having your kids go to a birthday party where you know half the kids have chicken pox and saying oh well, my kids will never get it because they've never had it.
