Roaring weather to open march here in southwest Missouri! Looks like perfect white bass weather is right around the corner though. 60 degree temps moving on this weekend and warm rains with it. . Looks like night time temps jumping into forties as well which should get them running up the creek. Last year i had already gone once by now and was seeing small numbers of males. Probably be a little more like next week or the week after before we see any action this season. Just thought id get a thread going in anticipation!
With lots of rain and warmer temps starting this is a prime time to take an adventure down crane creek. The higher water levels provide more holds as well as all the rains increasing food dislogdment. This makes it easier to fish from shore and decreases your chances of spooking the trout. When the weather allows these perfect conditions they love bigger presentations and are more aggressive. Try throwing buggers and stone fly patterns as there are several variations of these bigs in February and March. Prince nymphs in size 14 through ten work excellent. Make sure you use a weighted system to get them down in the buckets though. In the runs and riffles cast upstream and strip the bugger back at the end ofvyour drift. This drives them nuts! Walk softly!
I turned at least five that were eighteen inches or better. One was probably five pounds or better. . . The big ones wouldnt completely commit to the streamer. Theyd wack it and then dart. The little ones hammered it. So did the rainbows. One day ill wack one of those biggins like you Ollie lord of capps creek!
Any one know anything about the fishing in bull creek? My brother is looking to purchase a house right on the creek and he doesn'tknow anything about it
