  1. I find that people flock to where others are catching fish so I'm with grizzly on the whole head to bluer ribbons mindset! But rr does have its allure in winter . I find that going lighter on tippett. And moving around work well and also stop rude people fro? Invading your space. If they think oh he just caught one there then moved it makes them less likely to follow like a lost pup. Not to say that giving pointers is out of the question. But when that many people are there better to run and gun.
  2. I saw some guys using what they refered to as a big ugly during the Brown run two years ago. It seemed to be a double hackled crackle back. Resembled a wooly worm for sure and the guys were slaying the Brown's.
  3. I remember being a teenager when you showed me the pictures from that day Rick! The fly you had laying on a dime and it was half the size. What a beast. It's on the wall at plateau and river runners. If I'm not mistaken.
  4. It closes the last part of February in preparation for opener.
  5. Twelve pound freshwater drum from below power station at tunnel dam. Believe that's the niangua river. Had a much larger one on but it broke my four pound line.
  6. Ned is back and working hard!
  7. I will Rick. He used to wade that river for hours and hours and I've never met anyone who knows it better. It's a shame he can't get out anymore because we had the best time down there.
  8. Dad said they used to catch crappie up above Bennett and right at the boat launch but they got cleaned out once people knew. Hopefully they stick around
  9. Good luck buzz! Down stream of walleye bridge looks really fishy!
  10. Had a good day down there. I caught five with one nice Brown in the mix. My buddy had several strikes but didn't hook up. He is adjusting to fly casting though and it was very cold. Saw a few really good fish and saw people keeping small fish. I hate that it gets cleaned out so fast.
  11. Hitting the creek today Ollie hope to encounter some of those browns myself. Thanks for a good report I'm taking a buddy and he just got his first fly rod.
  12. I have tried a lot of New thongs and sizes and patterns over the last year. it seems that mid sized flies 14-18 work the majority of the time. however I have tied some pheasant tails on 16 hooks but tied them skinnier and shorter on the hook and had good luck. helps with the profile as well as hook set. in dries , love 14 elk hair for riffles but definitely go smaller on may fly patterns,. 16 Adams kill too though. I like the idea of no slip knots I may have to try this.
  13. eight inches of rain in three days itll be blown out! dang rain has ruinef all my trip ans for roaring this year
  14. Nope. They start around end of December and continue trough February from what I've seen. I think certain strains spawn in spring in other places. Probably due to water temps and quality.

    Redds

If you head down to crane be very careful. There are active reds. It's tempting to target one of the large trout that are nesting and spawning but please don't. They are creating the future of the creek and will have enough problems with all the rain coming in this week. Remember to walk on land as much as possible especially at the tail out portions.
  16. I'll be down the creek again tomorrow if anyone is around.
  17. Depends on weather as to pattern. I'd say if it rains a bunch stick to buggers and weighted nymphs. If sunny weather continues there will be a few light hatches of very small may flies and midges. I like using a muddler in the fast water also.
  18. Never tried a hopper in winter but muddler skimmed through a riffle does the same. Killed at roaring several times doing this.
  19. If I didn't have to work I'd enjoy it more lol
  20. May try my luck for an hour or so next Friday on my way to a meeting!
  21. They barely lost a bad call on a fumble left the 7-14 . They played well though. Now time for basketball!
  22. They were hugging the bottom everywhere except that one place. It was nice to see a good may fly hatch there. Buzz caught a nice one at the middle access and I caught an ok one as well.
  23. Nice to meet both of you today! Good day for fishing lol
  24. I have to agree with Al and wrench here. I wasn't classically taught though I have studied. experimentation and getting a good presentation are important to me. I will even bounce a nymph off a log or the bank to get it where I want it. I took a guy with me once who noted this and at the end of the day said "at first I thought you were terrible at casting and kept hitting the bank, but then realized you were intentionally doing it and it was effective ." I replied that it was my spinning gear nature leaking out in me. On small water with heavy flies you do.what you gotta.
  25. My phone has a mind of its own professor lol!
