  1. Tried one caught one broke it off next cast and didn't have another. Wish I had water is perfect for heavy flies. I had to use Czech style nymphs I had in my box to get it down.
  2. Yeah its good all over. I need to hit the upper access as it bears good numbers when the water is up like it is. Lower access will have changed significantly and middle is log jammed around trestle bridge. Many of my old holes were gone but new good holes have taken there places.
  3. Made it down to the creek around four yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of flow. Nice and fast but clear in the runs green in the pools. Threw nymphs including frenchie and bhprince. Caught eight in about three hours. Had to get it deep in the pools to get bit. Also tried a barely legal in some deeper runs and had some gnarley attacks but no hook ups. May try a smaller version next time.
  4. Down today and it is still moving quick and deep. It has changed a lot. Much deeper and faster than normal. Think it'll be a great year for some bigguns.
  5. We see a decline this time a year for a few weeks then they Re done nesting and laying eggs and start showing up again. Usually early and late at first then all day long around end of may beginning of June.
  6. Totally agree with less leader concept. Short line nymphing is very effective. I will go a little longer if small stream with spooky fish though.
  7. Never really use an indicator except a dry dropper rig once in a while. I prefer direct contact and elevation of the lead. George Daniels pretty well nailed it with adding in the manageable slack concept. That little bow that acts almost as a strikeindicator. I tend fish smaller streams and find it to be deadly to tight line. Also I vary on using dropper from bend to tying a tag with a triple surgeons knot and either seem effective. Ive tried indicator and its just tangles and awkward casts. Spoiled on spinning gear I guess.
  8. It should be fishable by then. It runs down pretty quick. A stain in the water makes foe some fine fishing down there anyway. Good luck
  9. You ever seen this book before ? Paid a dollar for it at auction
  10. From my experiences growing up on the niangua its going to be a while before it'll be fishable again. Like was stated there will be some big jams and sand bar movement. That river gets pretty big after rain like this. Now if we don't get any more rain and the sun comes out , maybe ten days before you want drown and will catch fish. Maybe less but this is a lot of water on the shed.
  11. My goodness. Thats awful. I hope everyone gets back on their feet. Did Justin take any bad losses at sunburst ?
  12. We have customer from Macdonald county that can't get home due to flooded roads. Have had five employees call in due to road closures in aurora area as well. Yucky day
  13. The prettiest little creek Ive seen! There are some spots down through it that make you feel like you are out west. When waters recede in going down to have a go. My favorite place...
  14. That's some brown water. You would really have to work for them in those conditions. I can think of a few places you may enable to find them but man that is brown
  15. Always wanted to try high water down there. Most I've ever had was two units and it fished pretty well at that flow. always on land though.
  16. My dads favorite story about smallmouth fishing is one of these stories. Every year we would wade the. Niangua countless times and we would hear dad regale us with the story of this love that lay across the river. This log was not an ordinary log however. It pushed into a deep hole with swift water pass the end and dropping off into the hole. Each time he would wade up to this tree as he knew it to be the spot where fish layed to congregate and feed. He would catch fish there all day adjust enjoy the river. The one nice summer evening he was fishing said tree with a jig. ..brown and orange or black and yellow whichever he was using and he hooked into a leviathans. It ran into the deep hole then it would run back to the tree. He realized it was a giant smallie and he got excited. Then the fish would proceed to jump the log and leaven his jig stuck in the log . this happened every year for many years and dad never got the fish in. I loved that story more than the ones where he landed a big one. Eventually log washed away and tube story seemed to disappear into the archive.
  17. I lost track if this post but I am pretty happy we got all the rain. Creek will fish greAT now! May even coax out a lanker down there. They get much less finicky when the water is brownish.
  18. Lots of quail out there . im only fifteen away as well and hit it quite a bit in summer with the fly rod. Funny that you found this post a year later almost !
  19. Got the feeders up earlier this week. We've seen them around the columbines already so should be buzzing at our window pretty soon
  20. That stretch can be good or terrible. I had one of my best days down there last year. Throwing buggers and caddish.Ty for report
  21. We found two in our yard where there haven't been trees for sixty years according my father in law but I haven't seen any where I usually find them. I think the warm up and some rain may change my luck. My wife hopes a since we got a taste ... I better find some or im in trouble lol
  22. Pretty much nailed the pattern. . . let the current do the work. If you worked it at all it was a snap jig at the end of the swing. Had some follow it all the way to me so they should be getting more aggressive with the warm up. Little more rain and its on.
