  1. spent the morning out in the kayak throwing topwater despite the reports, glad I did!
  2. What water clarity are you guys seeing on the lower end?
  3. anybody seeing any bigger fish moving shallow yet? can't be far off with these cool nights
  4. those look like some topwater dandies
  5. I'm with you 100% on this and I actually prefer the taste of crappie to the bigger walleyes, to me once they get big and old is the only time their flavor is discernable. I'm just partial to steak cuts that two or three good keeper walleye produce. Those shouldered up springtime crappies that'll rip a JB outta your hand are pretty dam good too though! I'll eat em all with a cold pale ale and a smile.
  6. They're the gnarliest looking thing swimming down there and they eat well to boot. For my time spent meat fishing, it doesn't get better than some pan-blackened walter tacos. My buddy guides for them out here west of Kansas City and does real well on a local reservoir. It's mud bottom and MUCH smaller than LOZ. They may just bite better where boats don't run into things... like Stockton
  7. That north wind seems to change things wherever i fish thats for sure. When that north wind picked up was that when you had to resort to the BBH?
  8. few things more fun to catch em on than a spook that's for sure.
  9. *in old greg voice* you should thank @fishinwrench for blessin ya with some old greg then, motha licka
  10. This 100%
  11. Ed I want to tell you it's refreshing to see a guy that's not so proud to charge for info (*cough* Bassing Bob). Fishing is a lot simpler than most make it out to be. Guys need to quit trying to figure it all out from a computer. Drop your paid subscription, show up a day early, wet a line and get to work.
  12. Exactly. Now more than ever the old saying "walk quietly and carry a big stick" needs to be applied. I still have faith that the better sticks do though... The day I finally get my own boat and don't have to rely on backseating will be the day I can drop off the grid for good.
  13. I about spit coffee all over my desk reading this! Haha sad but true. It's weird what fishing has turned into for the kids nowadays. It's definitely not the same fishing I grew up with. Social media has really ruined aspects of it. My social media growing up was hanging out at bass pro up in Laurie.
  14. CHIRP's going to give you better marking detail at greater depths than scanning sonar.
  15. Learned a ton, always a pleasure fishing with you Mike. Even if you're not a bass fisherman
  16. Been doin this since I was knee high to a grasshopper
  17. that's an absolute slaunch of a black crappie!
  18. gues i had better luck sunday morning, and if you were at the right spot you could find goodins in both green and white... my two best, didn't weigh mr. largemouth but the crappie went 13". caught a half dozen green fish, and a dozen or so crappie. the crappie were either 8-9" dinks or slabs, managed to clean 6 with shoulders on em. sometimes it's nice when you don't have to put a boat in, happy new year!
  19. Nice fish!
  20. Was the camera the one that got away that time? Or is that the bigger one shown above?
  21. another vote for jack. he's a great guy and hell of a fishermen. was fortunate enough to fish with him a few winters back and he taught me how to shoot docks for crappie. he's also on a very short list of boats that have had a double digit largemouth in it over the last year. http://www.lakeoftheozarksfishingguide.com/
  22. ^^^ This. We've all just witnessed a new level of newbie achieved by this post.
  23. I'd gladly take a few days of heat exhaustion if it meant pulling a 6+ out of a deep brush pile and a 20+ bag. Well done!
  24. I can't hear "textbook ledge" and "north buck" in the same sentence and think it doesn't get pounded! Are you talking about the one halfway back-ish on the south side? With the textbook spawning pocket on the other side of the point? If so I haven't fished it during the summer but I've caught fish there in the spring. I got a few go-to summer docks not far from it.
