  1. You are the expert
  2. Never a puncture or a leak and it has been through a lot of rock gardens. Over 10 days on the Buffalo with boy scouts using it. I can stand in a pool on the river or in a pond ok.

    Mike Anderson

Maybe he'll recruit Nolan to be his assistant now
  4. I have had a Discovery 169 for 15 years now and it is a great canoe. It has been on the Buffalo a bunch, Mulberry at near flood stage etc and it works well. One day or 5 day trips. Two or three people and it is still able to handle these waters around here without any problems. Sorry I can't compare it to the other since this has been my only Old Town.
  5. I started yesterday afternoon and fished until dark. I tried some night fishing but with a new moon it was DARK. I then got up and fished 3 more hours today. All wade fishing about 1.5 miles above Rockhouse. The water is clear and low; perfect for wading. Tons of bluegill and 20-30 Brownies. Tim from Tim's Fly Shop gave me 2 flies. First was a popper. The Brownies and bluegills liked it. The second I'm not sure what to call. It has a lip and eyes. The Brownies LOVED it. IT would seem appropriate to call it Tim's Brownie Slayer (or Tim's BS, for short ) A big thanks to Tim
  6. I didn't see any. The only difference was a "No Wake" sign at the top of the boat ramp at Bertrand.
  7. Tim and I put in at Houseman and went up to Parker Flats Great day.
  8. Thanks I'll call them
  9. I agree and I was using a #10 Olive Conehead
  10. I have a Supreme L42 with a Yamaha 9.9. I am looking for either a ready made or someplace to get a custom boat cover. I live in Cassville, MO and I wouldn't mind taking the boat within an hour or two if needed. Any suggestions? Thanks
  11. New record of 77lbs for a Flathead catfish in Mississippi Record flathead
  12. Kings is in the same shape but don't forget it. I wade fished from Stoney Point downstream Saturday and it was fun.
  13. This link says they are planning an overnight site http://www.nature.org/wherewework/northame...s/art11132.html
  14. Very slim, BUT since it is all metal (unlike a lot of newer guns) it is heavy. Mine is stainless and in a Crossbreed IWB holster it is very comfortable. The DA is HEAVY but after that the SA trigger pull is excellent.
  15. I went at 0300 Friday after they had shut down generation a 2200. It was great I was the only one there and fished #2 until 0430. Another guy came into the rebar and I went up to #1. It was gorgeous with a 3/4 moon and a light breeze. Caught a few fish too but no monsters. About 0600 the parking lot started to fill and I left.
  16. There must have been 3000 people in the park since it was "FREE" fishing weekend. So I went downstream out of the park a ways. Since I had chores to do I didn't get on the water until about 11. It was slightly overcast and the water was perfect. Caught about 18-19 'bows and one brown. Except for two (who looked like typical hatchery fish) they all were in great shape with excellent colors. An excellent day. BTW they were all caught on one green conehead wooly bugger.
  17. It's been a few years but. Another adult and I were taking a group of Boy Scouts on a 5 day float on the lower Buffalo. We didn't know they even allowed motors. We are in kayaks and canoes when a conservation agent and a ranger came screaming up the river in their jon boat with a 25 HP motor wide open. They want to see our fishing license so we dig and finally find them in our packs and show them. They proceed to ask if we have seen someone with a jon boat and a 15 HP motor. They are trying to track them down and give them a ticket. That is BS to me. Since the lower Buffalo is Wilderness and you can't have a mountain bike or chainsaw WHY do they even allow motors and why do the Rangers/ conservation agents get to violate the law?
  18. Winston LT-5 7'9". It is my favorite rod not just my favorite 4 wt.
  19. "Trout On the Rise" is a series on The Outdoor Channel. It is supported by TU and the host goes around the USA fishing different streams. This week Frank Smethhurtz(?) is on the White River and per news release catches the largest Brown every catch while being filmed. It is a MONSTER.
  20. US Army 1973-78 Arkansas Army Guard 1978-81 USAF Reserve 1981-85 USAF 1985-92 Arkansas Air Guard 1992-2000 Thinking about maybe the USN next. I haven't done that...... yet Tom
  21. I started out on an Apple IIC back in the late 80s maybe early 90s. After 5 or 6 macs I changed to a PC. Not because I didn't like the Mac but because some of the programs I wanted weren't available for Macs. After using Windows 98, 2000, and XP I recently went back to Macs. About a month ago got a Macbook Pro. As you said I haven't figured out the filing system completely, BUT everything else is easier and stable. It seemed like on the PC after 1-2 years all the updates for the different programs didn't play well with each other and things slowed down and occaisonally crashed or froze. After a couple more month I think you'll be really happy with the mac. Tom
  22. A well thought out response. I agree completely. My brother's-in-law place is less than 1/2 mile from the chicken houses on Hwy F near Roaring River. They are NO threat to the park. However, the chicken industry is responsible for significant pollution in local streams. Primarily from the spread on fields, not the houses. As you stated the basic problem in Overpopulation. Until that is fixed these other things are going to be hard to deal with Doc
  23. One thing you need to know if you are canoeing is the motor boats. I took the Boy Scouts on that section 3 years ago. I saw it was a wildrness area on the map and thought we would have only a few people with lots of peace and quiet. The National Park Service as part of the deal that set the park up apparently got the River itself excluded from the Wilderness designation and Jon boats with up to 9.9 HP are allowed and frequent this part of the river. It was most annoying being checked by the Game and Fish guys running a 25HP motor on their boat roaring up and down the river. They told us they were looking for guys they heard were running a 15 HP motor on the river. (Honest, I couldn't make this story if I tried). The Buffalo is a wonderful place. Late in the year I'd go more for minnow imitations than crawdads. Tom
  24. Yes it was very good today. you should have been there sooner. I had the park to myself until you showed up Doc Tom
