  1. Hey, we all start somewhere. Good to see your wife wanting to get in on the action. I would start with shallower water if your fishing early or late, in the 8' range. Follow a productive looking shoreline for a few hundred yards, and if get bit a few times, then stay with that depth until you arent. If that depth doesnt produce, move out to 10' or 12' deep. The #7 are going to run in that 10 to 12 foot range, depending on speed, line but will work for those depths. I like for it to either tickle the bottom, especially on a sand like shoreline, or be very close to bottom. Most of your fish will be at the bottom this time of year. Let me know when your on the lake next. We will hook up.

Good fish. I threw a deep crank at Fork a week ago with no luck. Those things will wear a feller out.
  3. I guess "trolling" with a trolling motor makes sense, but most use their outboard motor, clicked into forward, and no faster. Weve done good lately in 6' to 14' of water. Maybe try a little shallower, depending on the time of day, cloud cover, etc.
  4. Ive been a jig guy for years, and when i started using the Ned "ive posted my catches and experiences" it was hard for me at first to let it settle to the bottom without me wanting to feel it fall. After i got over that mindset, the bites came more often. As Dave said, it fishes vertical well, and the bluff fish like it just as well as the shallow fish. I switched colors Saturday to see if that mattered, like other lures, and after switching from a PB&J Zero to a Watermelon colored, we caught more fish between casts. In order to get good at anything, you have to practice, practice, practice, and on this forum, theres no-one that seems to have done that more than Dave, so his experience on this bait, in my opinion, is above everyone elses. The limited number of hours "maybe 30" that i have used it, ive tweaked it a half dozen times, from length of plastic, size of hook, size of head, color, water depth, line size, etc. in an attempt to be a better fisherman with the bait, as i do with almost anything in life. Thats part of my obsessive brain, trying to do the best i have with what i have.
  5. nice. and glass water. A canoe would do good on that water hole.
  6. that was a good buy. Im sure you and your dad will have a blast in those.
  7. yes it does. Holding hands while we all wear his shorts, singing Kum By Ya is the new Orange.
  8. Will do Jim. Mine were all the 5000. Unless my memory is worse than i think, i dont recall ever backlashing those round beasts.
  9. Patience is under used. We fished some bluffs Sat. in 55' of water. I up'ed the head to a 1/4 oz and it seemed like i was gonna fall asleep waiting for the slack. We did pull a few fish out of 35' of water with it. That was with a full Zero on it.
  10. Sounds good. Another member here had 4 Abu reels i picked up also. I used to have several, as in more than 15, of the Abu round Ambassaduer reels years ago. I loved those things. Switched out to the Calcuttas back in the day. We fish 6:30 to 2:30 but i will be there from 5:30 til 3:00ish. If ya got my number just hollar, if not i will send it to ya.
  11. In order to win, ya gotta look stylish, right? And those Biffle Briefs, I mean shorts, are the ticket into catching more fish. It must be the way they make your voice higher pitched, or something like that....Do they make them in an X-Small?
  12. I'd do it if i could just talk someone into paying my way. I can catch a fish or two, talk on television, wear a colored up shirt, buy me a flat bill ball cap, and even make a few videos for Facebook followers. Anybody got my back?
  13. Hollar whrn you get those Lews ready to sell.
  14. Jim, I'll take the combo. I will hook up with ya at Stockton soon. Ive got a tourney this Sat. out of Ruark if your in the area from 6am to 3pm.
  15. Thats John Paul Morris there with KVD. That boat was slick. Its Nitro's new Z21 bow fishing rig. Lots of boat to fling arra's, but looks good getting there. There were 28 states competing this weekend. A team from Clinton Mo. won it including a 60 pound carp. Huge
  16. Good story Jerry. 'my name also' My 3 daughters and son and i have spent countless hours on the waters and woods over the years. It always warms my heart when i hear them telling one of the stories from their encounters growing up. My youngest would fit right in with yours. She had to pee the last 2 hours yesterday, but wouldnt quit fishing to go back to the ramp, until it was time to go.
  17. Good to hear positive words.
  18. My youngest daughter (19) and myself put in at Bolivar Landing at 6am. We fished a few areas we normally fish. We caught fish pretty quickly. I was fishing a PBJ jig and she was throwing the Ned. We fished a bluff bank in 25' of water catching 3 keepers in short order. Around 10 she wanted to troll. With the smaller #5 Flicker Shad on both rods, we ended up with 9 drum, biggest being 3.17 pounds, a few short crappie, a few short bass, and a few 12" crappie she caught. Great day with my daughter on the water. All 4 of my kids fish/hunt but now that their getting older, going to college, work, etc. its getting harder to get them out. Lots of debris at the ramp still. 1 lane was open to launch from. Water was really stained and floating timber. On a side note, alot of you have seen my posts using a bait i found floating on TR that jolicious painted and lost. Ive used that bait on every lake ive fished, including Fork last weekend. In the mail i received (several) baits from him. What an upstanding guy he is. Thanks brudda. Last pic is of a bass i caught on 1 of his cranks.
  19. Springfield, Mo.
  20. nothing down there oneshot, but snakes.
  21. With fathers day soon, ive been informed i "may" be getting one. Thought i'd check to see if anyone has a good unit they want to sell before they go buy me a new one. Thanks
  22. Looking to upgrade a few reels that ive had awhile. Looking for quality bait cast reels. If you have something you no longer need and want to sell, let me know please. Looking for 3 or 4. Appreciate it.
  23. Hey Jim, could it have been the guys with his lights facing the ramp, maybe thought he was helping others by lighting up the area, which would be easier to load? Just trying to look for the positive in his action.
  24. You bet. Anything that gets guys on the water, im a fan. And if they learn something new, im a fan. And, free carp and be in the presence of KVD. Yep, im a fan. And, i dont even bow fish. Go figure. Weird i would promote this huh? Stranger things happen.
  25. If you're curious to learn more about bowfishing, there will be numerous booths, exhibits and hands-on activities at the Bowfishing Fair, from 10-a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Among them: •Vendor booths displaying the latest bowfishing gear. •Opportunities to try bowfishing and test gear by shooting at targets in the pond at Sunshine and Campbell. •Free bowfishing seminars led by the experts, including winners of the U.S Open and World Championships. •Carp cooking demos and free fried carp samples. •Opportunities to purchase burgers, sausage links and chili made with carp. •Conservation displays that explain why removing nongame and invasive fish benefits water quality and gamefish populations and how these harvested fish are put to good use as environmentally friendly fertilizer. •Bow shooting contests. •Live music by the Mark Chapman Band. •Opportunities to meet Brian "Pigman" Quaca, host of Boss Hog and Aporkalypse; Mike Hunsucker, host of Heartland Bowhunter; Kevin VanDam, 4-time Bassmaster Classic winner and 7-time Bassmaster Angler of the Year; and other celebs. •A dunk tank, proceeds going to the Bowfishing Association of America.
