Forecast looks great this weekend! 63 Friday and 65 Sunday. It has been about 2 months since I was last out on the water. Any tips or pointers for a warm January weekend? I plan on tying on the Ned, crankbait, potentially an A-Rig... any pointers on where (bluffs, shallow, deep, wood, etc) to fish or what to tie on would be greatly appreciated. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Not the nicest place in the world... but Whip-Poor-Will Resort allows dogs.

Are they decent eating?? We ate a few of them years ago and were a bit underwhelmed...

Question for you Jig Masters - when should I use a craw or worm trailer vs just throwing the jig itself??

I was able to get out last night. We did not have a lot of bites but we caught 3 nice fish, one of them being VERY nice! Was only able to capture a pic of the big boy... tough to get good pics at night. We caught a couple small fish this afternoon and looking forward to going back out tonight. We have only seen 1 FLW boat come down Big Creek but we can hear them buzzing down the river.

Man am I pissed! My buddy was able to make it down to TR yesterday and I am not able to head out of Kansas City until about 1:00 this afternoon. He went out in search of the late night bite last night and did great! Said they were blowing up the rock crawler in 5-15ft and landed a nice keeper early this morning on texas rigged worm...hope the fun continues tonight!!

Thx BB!! - Any quick pointers on how and where to fish the two baits mentioned above? Do I jig them up down over deep structure? Throw under deep docks? -
10f t!?? Let the water warm up a few more degrees and take a swim with a pair of goggles.

Appreciate the quick response Dave! I'll tie one on and give it a go.

Nice report! Anyone willing to offer up some advice on the basics of fishing swim baits. I have been reading a lot of reports on here about swimbaits and Keitechs, but I have never tied them on. The picture above helps a bunch as I will know how to rig... I believe I saw some pictures last week of a Keitech rigged on an Ozark Finesse Head (Ned Rig) ? Thanks!

Awesome 2nd hand report there, appreciate the info Bill!

Great response, and it most definitely makes sense... I'll be sticking with Ozark Finesse Heads and super gluing... as a matter of fact... ordering some more now.

Dave - I love your shroom head jigs and can't thank you enough for making them and the info you share here on the Forum... One question - I've noticed that your heads to not have a barb near the top of the jig to help keep the little guy from slipping down the hook. I now use super glue and it works pretty well, but just wondering if there was a reason you do not have a "barb bait keeper" on the jigs?

Dave - Nice fish! Looking forward to hearing your tips and tricks for the little guy - is that a silver ned??? Never thrown that color, seems they like it.

Had a great weekend with some buddies down on Big Creek - We probably drank a few too many adult soda's and didn't maximize our time on the water, but we had a blast. We never strayed from Big Creek and for the most part, were back in the creek pretty far the entire time. A lot of boats on back there on Saturday. We had a ball night fishing and had some luck as well. It has been a tough winter for us getting on the fish, so it was nice to finally have a productive weekend. Bass, bluegill, and crappie. All weekend we could see these fish suspended in the last slip of our dock in about 15-20 FOW. Bass Bite: We caught the majority of fish on the green pumpkin and pbj NED. Some really nice fish on Merc's Black and Blue jig with a black and blue craw trailer. I was casting and landing the jig right on the edge of the bank and dragging it in and would get nailed in less than 5 feet of water ( around midnight). That is a fun bite! A couple fish on a spinner when we would see the fish chasing the bait.... now back to the Monday work blues.... Excuse our eyes in some of these pics, that camera flash at night will get ya!

Nice day Quill! - Going to give the C-rig lizard my best shot this weekend. I'll also be throwing wobblehead w brown craw, jig and craw (blue and brown), NED, black whopper plopper, and might tie on a texas rig worm.... any thoughts, pointers, adjustments I should make. Fishing Big Creek for the most part and the main channel from Big Creek to Campbell Pt.

Nice! You have them figured out on the those bluff walls with the jig, thanks for posting!

Tough to find any better specific advise for a lake and strategy than this right here. Unbelievable. Thanks again Champ, I'll be saving this for years to come!
-
Thanks for sharing Champ, you the man! - Any pointers on how to fish it? Just saw Smallie post that it's not just a cast and wind bait. Are you swinging and pulling it? throwing up shallow and near timber? Thanks fellas!
-
Salt, that wind has been brutal! Leave a few fish for me!

Nice post - not looking for any specific info - but are there good populations throughout the lake of Walleye? Are they main lake fish or back in the creeks?

Hammer - tied on my first Carolina Rig this weekend after reading your post a few days ago - much like you said I only threw it a few times, it is tough to throw something without the confidence. Here is the set up I used. I felt like I would have a hard time feeling the bites. My leader off of the swivel was probably about 18 inches. Do you have trouble identifying the bite?
