  1. Darn it - I have to take the son shopping for Mom's birthday gift this today - unless we get done in an hour (doubtful) I won't make it. I really thought I could pop in for about an hour. I really wanted to pick Duckydoty's brain for a while about duck hunting Taney.
  2. I would never be without poppers, sliders, and some Clouser Minnows.
  3. I was going to post this at my blog but wanted to post it here, too. Great article from Ned Kehde about Charlie Campbell - The Heddon Zara Spook according to Charlie Campbell
  4. Not a year goes by where I don't here someone lamenting the fact that "all the water in Crane has dried up". It's just that one big losing section they're looking at. That looks like it took a while to put together - good work.
  5. If you want Goggle Eyes the Finley from Linden to the park here in Ozark is your closest bet. A couple of the pools up from the park are just filthy with them. As far as the James goes - you will do better in terms of numbers of fish and easy access by sticking to the middle or lower parts, like the Smallmouth management area you mentioned.
  6. O.K. - I'll bring down a big thing of plastic utensils. I think I still have a box of 100 of the lunch pack type - knife, fork, spoon and one chintzy little napkin.
  7. I fished this afternoon - the water was still very cold, but the air temps wasn't so bad. I managed to catch half a dozen decent Bass on a XCaliber EEratic Shad in E2 Blue. I'm used to the old XCaliber bait (looks identical) but rests more horizantal like a Rogue, this new version sits nose-down like a Vision 110. It works at any rate. I fished from the park up to a couple deeper holes above where Riverside used to be. Saw one mature Bald Eagle, and a big flock of Canada's, plus a few smaller groups of Mallards. Wish I could duck hunt in this stretch!
  8. That was my question, too. As it stands now, IF I get to go I'm bringing me, myself, and I - but willing to help out with something - pop - chips, something.
  9. There's a "losing section" of the creek up in the Wire Road Wildlife area where most people first access the creek - and so it looks bone dry to some people who don't poke around there as much as those of us who do. There's always plenty of water up by the spring, and further downstream through town and down to the confluence with the James.
  10. I have a Pack and I love the little thing - like Al said unless you're a huge dude (I'm 6' and 200-pounds) you'll do O.K. with the Guide - and I see that Dicks has them for a great price these days - Old Town Guide 119 You don't say where you're at - if you were close to Springfield I'd let you paddle the old bomber some weekend.
  11. Jigs can be good - but I do better on suspending jerkbaits or suspending cranks (like the XRap Shad pictured).
  12. Early Spring (March) this year. I usually catch a good numbers of 4, 5, and even 6-pounders every year. I don't catch the "8-9 Pounders" and doubt others have recently. In the mid-late 90's there were a couple of really good year classes that were pretty big, but recently I think you should be happy with the 5-pounders these days.
  13. I'm sorry to tell you the bad news, but the Bass are not stunted in Lake Springfield, you're just stuck on shore.
  14. Yeah, that would be me. And I'm not talking about it- so there's a clue.
  15. Here's some more information, including some data from Jack's Fork:http://archives.in-fisherman.com/node/4103 I think the correct answer to the question of whether or not they migrate is "yes, sometimes." I always say Smallmouth are where you find them, which is nice and vague enough I suppose.
  16. You might try posting it at backpage.com - St. Louis (it's free like craigslist.)
  17. Great photo and release. That's a great fish anywhere - not just NW Arkansas.
  18. Nice fish, and ditto on leaving them to their "duties".
  19. I'm with Al on the early Summer thing, and I'd forget the 2-day format. It's hard enough for some of us to get away for and afternoon, let alone an entire day - those that aren't able to commit to two full days won't be competitive. I'd love to see you hit an area over here in SW MO but I know that's probably not for this year, so I'll likely have to wing it on watershed's I don't know well.
  20. I could here the Snow's all last night - it sounded like every one in North America was passing by.
  21. I saw the Canada's and heard some Snows - I also saw a mixed flock of Mallards and either Widgeon or Gadwalls come screaming by right at dusk last night near the park in Ozark.
  22. Not to be a nit-picker, but if you saw the same flocks I saw the past few days they were lesser and greater Canada's. Snow geese fly at higher altitudes and in flocks numbering in the thousands.
  23. I'm sorry I didn't respond earlier - but it really doesn't look any different from an Elk Hair Caddis - except a friend shot this Deer with his .44 mag (his first handgun Deer) and had all the usable hide tanned - so it's kind of special to me.
  24. Post Turkey feast Skeet is a great tradition. Glad I'm not the only one.
  25. I know it's not the answer you wanted, but like others have said - for what a good quality air rifle costs you can get a decent .22 rimfire. I've shot a lot of varmints out of my garden with the air rifle I have (old Crossman) but I'd rather use one of my .22's with subsonics - it's quieter than the air rifle, and the results are more deadly. I must be the yin to your yang - my wife doesn't like us to stay anywhere that won't let us have a firearm with us.
