  1. This has happened twice while I was fishing at Bennett, but not to me thankfully. Both times the fisherman involved almost had a heart attack. He's quietly fishing with the water up around his waist. Both times a common water snake swam up to them and tried to crawl up on them like they were a log or boulder in mid-stream. I mean the snake would swim right up and try and crawl up their hand and arm which was close to the water's surface. Both guys didn't see the snake until it was literally coming out of the water at them. These guys started crawdaddin and swattin and stumblin to get away from them. How about trying to ID a snake at that moment? I know they were harmless but man think of that! Also, after the fact I laughed my butt off. In fact one guy got mad at me because I couldn't stop myself from laughing so hard. SIO3.
  2. Nice fish Mofishwater!! I fish that lake for bass in the summer during my lunch break. I call them metrophobes. They're afraid of anything inside the 270 loop. SIO3
  3. Hey thanks Dave Do they have lectric to plug in my tent heater? SIO3
  4. Sounds as good as any other weekend. Well, Jan. 19-21? SIO3
  5. I'd be up for that CP. Pick a day and I'll call the boss and tell him I'm going to be sick that weekend. SIO3
  6. Two things: buy it big enough like John said and go with Gore-tex or don't waste your money. I can vouch for the Cabelas gore-tex jacket. I've had one for 12 years or so. For around $150 it's a very good value. I use it for winter fishing even if it's not raining. It's a great wind barrier. SIO3
  7. Thanks Pat It will probably be my best Christmas present. SIO3
  8. We agree on one thing Phil, good solid play from both. Then Missouri Wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SIO3
  9. I was born fly fishing and now love all kinds of pursuit. Jig and pig for bass, corn for carp and live shrimp for redfish. I only chase trout with a fly rod and flies I tie. I respectfully doubt spin fishing outfishes fly fishing for trout. But I think Henry David Thoreau said it best in relation to this very topic. I think this is the exact quote: "Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it's not the fish are after" SIO3
  10. I couldn't pick a day very far out. If I'm working I can't go, but I get a lot of off time, but it's short notice. You guys pick a day and I'll try and make it. SIO3
  11. It was maybe 8 or 10 years ago and my buddy and I are at a convenience store near Norfork one very early morning. We were asking each other how they could keep generating since the water level was so low, the docks on Norfork were sitting on gravel? The girl behing the counter heard us and said "My dad works at the dam and he says if they can sell the power they'll run the generators. It doesn't matter how low the lake is or anything else" Since then I quit trying to figure out what the heck they are up to. They are in the business to sell power, period. SIO3
  12. Thanks for the link MSU. I didn't get down there this past weekend and I'm glad now. These are the things that make this site great. Hey Hoosier, I think the first weekend always books up because of the OFF's and deer hunters. I've been to the CnR opener with OFF every year since it started and can't go this year. After the first two weekends it calms down a bit. SIO3
  13. Hey John I'm headed back your way again tonight. I'll look for ya again in the usual spots. SIO3
  14. Not sure what they are going to do. I know they are booked solid this weekend. I'm going to try Fort Ninagua. I talked to the guy on the phone and it sounds good. Shelter, fire ring and electric on a riverfront site. Here's the number for the park, 417-532-4338. I love cool weather camping. SIO3
  15. I like Matt's attitude towards the 02 injector, indeed a great koo. SIO3
  16. What about the article in the news leader? Didn't it mention and 02 diffuser? http://www.news-leader.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...EWS01/710120424 Instead of a study just spend the money on the difusser. SIO3
  17. Okay, sorry about that. I should know better. I think 02 is probably the biggest problem followed by habitat loss. Wouldn't dredging holes and creating rifles help with both? It may not help right at the foot of the dam but work around the cable area would certainly the water below that. SIO3
  18. I'm in full agreement with you Phil. Those outlets, and the methods used there by fisherman are not what ethical fishing is about. Is #3 open? Are fish going up there? Once in the creek they are protected. Maybe something along the lines how #3 is setup? With restricted access in the outlet creeks. SIO3
  19. It doesn't matter who wrote it, anybody can plainly see why it won't work. It's too logical. SIO3
  20. "39,000 secind owner miles"??? Is that the total mileage? V6? Price?? SIO3
  21. Sorry, I didn't mean to hurt any feelings. I'll delete it. Carry on. SIO3
  22. I was drawn for day 7 at Columbia Bottoms CA. It's located at the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi, literally. Almost 3000 entered the draw and they only pull 50 a day, so even getting day 7 was lucky. It's managed for dove and they had sunlowers, corn and wheat. You can't start shooting till 1PM so we arrived at 12:30 to scout a spot. We've never been there before and we didn't expect much. How wrong we were. We limited in 3 hours and would've been done quicker but chasing cripples ate up a bunch of time. Steel shot is mandatory and it doesn't kill as well as lead. Some birds would fold up and bounce when they hit the ground only to get it together and fly away. We had a blast though and everybody at the parking lot reported the same success. Wind was howling between storms and down wind you could lead 3 feet and into the wind the were almost standing still. SIO3
  23. Your employer should give you rules of the plan. Typically you are in stocks and bonds all the time. Rarely will you have cash sitting, but if so, it probably rolls into an overnight money market. But like I said it will be invested most of the time. The overnight rate is negligible but it's something. SIO3
  24. I couldn't go this morning and it's one of the first dove openers I've missed in years. We hunt the river bottoms near the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers just north of St. Charles. The boys called about 6:45 and one already his limit. We scouted it every week and didn't see many birds but my buddy said it was loaded as usual this morning. We hunt over sunflowers. Man, I wish I could've gone! Last year we never got a migration of birds that stopped. In years past you could go back out a couple weeks later and there would be birds everywhere again. Marinate in Zesty Italian dressing, wrap in bacon and grill em up on the weber. I heard the other guys in the background shouting kill em and grill em. SIO3
