After years of Ross Reels I went to a Lamson Litespeed. Sweet drag and the thing I like most is how light weight it is. I never considered weight that much but I will now. Nothing at all wrong wrong with the Ross's. I was shopping around and the litespeed caught my eye and I like it even more after using it for 2 years. I have the older model not the newest. Look at weight! SIO3

I read that article too. Funny thing is Brian, the reporter, is a long time member of Ozark Fly Fishers and an avid conservationist. He may not have been aware of the regs. I saw an old guy with his grand kids at Busch just killin em. He was also using power grubs on jig heads. I showed him the sign which was right behind him. He didn't really care. It started pouring and he left. SIO3

To me there is a simple solution. Don't do it. What if the people who say, "the mine won't do any damage" are wrong, then it ruins the whole ecosystem there. One sure way to make sure the mine doesn't do any harm is to not build it. I guess the other thing I don't like here is the term "multinational company". I don't think they care squat about the environment, especially if it's not their home. Will the "multinational company" profit from "our" resources? You bet they will! I felt bad about the guy but I just couldn't stop laughing. Like a 4th grader passing gas in church, I just couldn't stop laughing. SIO3

This has happened twice while I was fishing at Bennett, but not to me thankfully. Both times the fisherman involved almost had a heart attack. He's quietly fishing with the water up around his waist. Both times a common water snake swam up to them and tried to crawl up on them like they were a log or boulder in mid-stream. I mean the snake would swim right up and try and crawl up their hand and arm which was close to the water's surface. Both guys didn't see the snake until it was literally coming out of the water at them. These guys started crawdaddin and swattin and stumblin to get away from them. How about trying to ID a snake at that moment? I know they were harmless but man think of that! Also, after the fact I laughed my butt off. In fact one guy got mad at me because I couldn't stop myself from laughing so hard. SIO3.

Two things: buy it big enough like John said and go with Gore-tex or don't waste your money. I can vouch for the Cabelas gore-tex jacket. I've had one for 12 years or so. For around $150 it's a very good value. I use it for winter fishing even if it's not raining. It's a great wind barrier. SIO3

I was born fly fishing and now love all kinds of pursuit. Jig and pig for bass, corn for carp and live shrimp for redfish. I only chase trout with a fly rod and flies I tie. I respectfully doubt spin fishing outfishes fly fishing for trout. But I think Henry David Thoreau said it best in relation to this very topic. It was maybe 8 or 10 years ago and my buddy and I are at a convenience store near Norfork one very early morning. We were asking each other how they could keep generating since the water level was so low, the docks on Norfork were sitting on gravel? The girl behing the counter heard us and said "My dad works at the dam and he says if they can sell the power they'll run the generators. It doesn't matter how low the lake is or anything else" Since then I quit trying to figure out what the heck they are up to. They are in the business to sell power, period. SIO3
