  1. Curiously, when I checked one of those morel sites that post maps of reportings; there was a band running from about StL to about Nevada and to a bit south of 44 that showed numerous reports from Apr3-4 on, They said ground temperature ~40-45. Said lilac blooms at same time, our lilacs don't bloom til later. I have heard or read that almost every tree in the woods is the best and only place to look for them.
  2. how warm does it need to be?
  3. I can see they don't flop at all. Very cooperative for the camera. And smiles too.
  4. It is if you are careful to tuck your suspenders and overall bib up.
  5. X2, but I've only met 6 or 7.
  6. wag, but my experience with CA glues indicate if excess is present it doesn't set and it seems to work better with pressure ....skin excepted I notice they have foam safe CA and a kicker additive to speed the set time, wonder if your problem is chemical incompatibility?
  7. Grandson was out behind the house day before yesterday and caught a couple dozen them yeller ones.
  8. They ask your Mama if you ever lie.
  9. COs are simply cops. Law is their thing, not fishing or hunting; think about this for half a second, if a CO spends his days during hunting season chasing poachers, when could he hunt? No one that wants to hunt is looking for a job that keeps them from hunting. A hunter or an angler looking for a LEO job would be most likely to take up being a podunk county Deputy.
  10. B,b,b,but he's got the picture of it!!! Pictures don't lie? Truth, the thing does look like a mount. His leg position is awkward to support that weight but his elbows are against his ribs and its only meant to be 25# in each hand. That's a lot of salt you got in your basement already.
  11. BS?? Surely you know someone that can lift 50# in either hand? When I was that young I could. I've seen the milk truck driver lift a 10 gallon can over his head with one hand to load it and he'd do that all day long. ~100# ..10 galx8.6#=86# + the steel can ~15# I have never seen a 50# fish or even a 50# carp, but the picture looks like a dang big carp to me.
  12. So not nearly as traditional as shooting ducks with punt guns or killing passenger pigeons on the roost once were. I would have guessed nearer to 35 years, but as I said it's never been a part of my world. What I recall from the early Beaver days is Smokey Dacus' crappie reports as the lake filled. Terrible loss of river scenery up that valley. By '67 I had moved north and was fishing the bottoms of what became Truman, another lost river system. Comments on any public forum hardly constitute factual research, you are a factual guy, ain't ya? Studies by any state fisheries department or university would likely contain or reference some facts. .
  13. Just when did the grand old time tradition of high speed bassboat tourney fishing start? I was not aware of them a while ago, so I really don't know if this "tradition" is 20 years old or 40 years old, were you always required to fish at 100 mph?
  14. Ever try Durhams Rock Hard Water Putty for those fill ins? It doesn't sand easy but it does expand a bit and sets almost as fast as plaster of Paris. I'm kinda curious about foam poppers and hard vs soft as compared to cork or wood. How tos and how goods.
  15. on this page http://dor.mo.gov/motorv/watercraft/ Under "Missouri Resident Titling and Registration Requirements" it list several documents that can be used for titling; one is " descriptive bill of sale"....another is http://dor.mo.gov/forms/93.pdf I know that I obtained titles for a truck and a car with no hassle, I filled out an affidavit that the other state used no titles and an application for title and had both notarized, paid the money and waited for the mail. But that was 30 years ago.
  16. Did you actually talk to the DMV or just to the folks that run the local license bureau? The license bureau is a contract vendor that usually changes when the party in power changes (at least in some counties) and I've known them not to have any idea of what they were doing.
  17. Yep, I've met this guy a few times. Must be a master of disguise because he looks different each time, or maybe it's just a common attitude. Fact is, I think he posted in this thread.
  18. So, in line with this question, roostertail is fly by Mo. definition and catches a fair number of rainbow in the parks (I don't know if they work other places); why do these work if small-medium rainbow won't take streamers ? They are bigger than many streamers and have basically the same shape. And is a beadhead woolybugger a streamer or a jig?
  19. I couldn't find a load capacity for the Vagabond?
  20. On the MDC map legend " 50.0 Six Crossings. Not public access." 50.0 is not marked on the map but it would be between 46.7 and 54.7 , your map shows what appears to be a small southerly rod off the K highway that should lead to your spot Yes I see Gavin has confirmed that
  21. Gavin, I've used a few things in past years, EMT, conduit, PVC pipe, sassafras sprout. It's not an always thing, just an option I want to have, like the ability to rig sails, if I want to some time. Unfortunately Mo. requires registration for sails. Also important just to be able to stand every so often to keep the cramps and pains subdued, 10-15 minutes is a comfortable time to sit. I had been looking at kayaks for a while, seeking to lighten the load/unload weight and maybe shorten the length, but the more I learned about them the better I liked canoes in about the same carry weight and length the canoe apparently has more space, load capacity and stability than a yak. This discussion has just made me like the 17'/80# LoweLine more, so I'm left with figuring out better transport for it. Once on the water, it does what I need, and it has been paid for a long time past so no new expenditure. That money could build a trailer or buy a roof rack, maybe. I'm not familiar with Belitz Bros, but there are some pretty pricey units out there.
  22. That is curious, I think I have taken as many dinky rainbows on streamers as on any kind of fly. Up north east 3 1/2" shiners were the favorite live bait for rainbow in lakes.
  23. You guys have convinced me to stick with the 17' aluminum, I've never had an ounce of trouble paddling it up stream solo and I can stand to cast or pole. I'd look for some thing sportier for white water, I suspect. Thanks for the explanations and I apologize if I derailed your thread, Fishfighter.
  24. Can you stand up and pole those little solo boats?
