  1. Dr Who, periodic regeneration. on first...
  2. Heck one a month for twenty five years is 300, start late at 20 and you could rack that many up by 45. I'm sure a couple of my cousins outdid that number.
  3. Blow snake- that was my first impression, but a second and third look at the picture made me wonder if it was something else. Pic is a bit blurry on my machine. No hog nose snakes in the Ozarks when i was growing up.
  4. You know if the news outlets only reported real stuff and kept to the truth; they would have to say "welcome to the weekly news report" and we'd have 50000 more unemployed news actors/performers?
  5. I haven't wet a line in over a month, more closely crowded people at my local spot than in the walmart, high water and all.
  6. Me too, but allergies don't cause fever, and the phlegm/discharge is clear or white, when fever shows up or colored lugies , it's time to see the medic.
  7. I found big yellow morels a week ago today and some were beyond use then, none since, 80* days and wind had things dried up; so will yesterday's 2.3" rain and this morning's 32* cause new ones to grow?
  8. Everything is political by nature because we have let politicians stick their fingers into every aspect of our lives, you can't take nonpolitical breath because politics controls even our air quality. To refrain from any and all political references we would have no discussions, our fisheries and use of boats and fuel are politically dependent. Our money is political dependent, our exposure to foreign culture and trade is politically foisted on us. Not one thing discussed on this board is completely free of political influence. Hiding from that seems immature. I will agree that naming and defaming or exalting a Party is uncalled for, but that is Partisanship rather than politics.
  9. Sure is a lot of energy lost in any conversion, gas engine to DC, then DC to AC (biggest loss I think), then AC back to DC without doing the math is probably something like 60-70% loss, but with that in mind and guessing an hour or two of running the truck per charge- it is possible. I think connecting battery direct to truck charging system would be way more efficient, best quality jumper cables or build a dedicated charging hookup for future use. 3-4 charging sessions might cost enough in fuel to pay for a spare battery. So, my question may sound ignorant, cause I know little about boats, but how did boat guys catch fish before electric motors were invented?
  10. What is Truth doing on a fishing forum? Nasty word that, and so subjective. Just tell the story and we'll talk about blowing out the lantern later.
  11. I wonder if cramming people into jails for being outdoors isn't self-defeating as a way to enforce social distancing.
  12. I have pictures in my head, but sure pictures always make a thread better, I hit close to the bottom under those log jams, by standing across the creek with line measured (can float the line past with a taps bug etc to find distance) to fall just short of smacking the log, then casting a heavy whatever up stream across and into the suction steam that goes right under the jam, as the fly is sucked into the flow under the log it will come to the end of the line and be pulled across, out of the jamup and to the surface with no line movement at all just following with rod tip, a flip/roll puts it back for a second trip. If that didn't get any thing i'd move up to a point where I can just feed line down to the jam pile with a wet, streamer or gurgler tied on and let it go down to the pile in 12-18' increments with pause that sucks the fly to the top and makes the smallest wake then loosing it again for a repeat and just as it is at the pile use the rod to lead the fly across current away from the pile, if that doesn't do it i go work the riffle with the wet/gurgler/streamer up to the next pile. I never ever back cast in those situations because I can't control line length precisely, with line pinched off I can roll cast exactly the same length of almost touching a dozen or more times in a row, although two or three passes is aplenty. One of my favorite "flies" for under logs is a 1/32oz marabou crappie jig from any discount store, second might be a conehead woolly bugger, or a bunny strip. casting into the suction stream above the lie gives the lure a better chance of hitting bottom and bouncing once, and this presentation can also work where the fast run dumps into the deep hole at a bend, I stand on the inside of the bend and pretend the top of the hole is a log jam. By rod manipulation the line stays tight through most of this swing. when the strike comes swing the rod parallel to the water and across stream and down from the jam pile to extract the fish. ps- this is better than virus and boats, great idea for a thread, maybe I'll learn from it too. I just saw on rereading the above responses that both appear aimed at trout, my rambles are more in tune with my local smallmouth creek. where I use bigger, heavier flies and shorter leaders than I have for trout, I'll sometimes add shot and if the fly line tip is pulled under I don't mind, 7' leader is the rule.
  13. How many times did they rebel in the past? 557 emperors and best part of a century as communists and apparently nothing has changed in how the central government relates to the people or to the world in all that time. Revolt rarely brings change, just new players.
  14. Not all mono is created equal, I've been a Chameleon fan for a long time, with Rio being tops at sizes under 3#, i keep trying the latest "best' and keep going back. I really liked Nylorfi but that just disappeared suddenly from the market, never knew why. If you want my leader for that application, it's 30" of 20# + 24" of 15# + 30" of 8# - all Chameleon, all approximate lengths all connected with grapevine bends. If you have trouble turning the fly over shorten the first two sections by a few inches, if you want heavier tippet to fish lilies or choke weed on top, substitute 12# for the 8#. Probably could sub Stren or Ande for all parts but I've not used either in years and don't know if the current product is the same. I've never been a Berkley fan. I have never met a store bought leader that I liked. If the poppers are too much for the 5wt try a gurgler, I don't think I've fished a popper in years. A hopper or stimulator or rubber legs spider all do about the same thing.
  15. We don't manufacture anything else that they can use. It's a placebo for the few that worry about trade balance. China is a huge wealthy country with a history much longer than ours, we literally have nothing for them but money and territory, they have been hesitant to claim our territory, I don't think that means they never will. I believe patience is considered a virtue in the far east.
  16. Is Japan a totalitarian country where the government owns everything? I can't in any way relate modern Japan with China in my head. But of course I have not studied either in depth. The USA fought Communists around the world for decades until 1979 and then we sold out to them.
  17. My 8# mono must stronger than yours or your fish must be a lot bigger than mine. I'm not sure I recall ever breaking a bass off on 8#, but then my biggest bass was only ~5#. I don't like any heavier than 8# tippet because then I can't easily break off those trees and slab boulders. I hate pulling in a 100# log or mess of old fence wire. Some days I drop down to 6# if fishing shallow in root balls. The sinking of tippet was once a desirable thing with dry flies (I guess poppers too) because it was said that fish didn't see it as easily, I forget after forty years if it was shadow or reflected glare that made floating tippet visible. Being mostly a wet fly user I never paid much attention to tippet other than knot strength.
  18. They own the majority of our politicians, most of our nation's credit and probably most of the shares in our industrial companies?
  19. China has never been our friend and never will be. I said this when Jimmy gave them exalted trade status and it's still true. They have always been takers. They have never had nor ever will have the same values that westerners have, so there is never a full understanding or agreement.
  20. Wonder how they made out in the NY markets? I've heard they are big investors in USA companies, but that may be another hearsay.
  21. That's like the "Free Beer Tomorrow" sign in front of the Do Drop In. Every day Bob, would have to explain it to someone.
  22. I don't know. That was an internal attack according to the best conspiracy theories, are you suggesting that this may be too? Election manipulation? Or just redistribution of wealth? I have many questions and no real answers.
  23. Can dropping bombs repair our monetary system? Surely our economy was/is the target, not individuals? Can we even drop bombs without imported technology? how much are we dependent on our potential enemies?
  24. Truth has no place in politics at all and not very much in fishing stories. Best leave the "truth" to religious discussions, eh?
  25. The virus in aerosol from cough or sneeze can be airborne for up to three hours, in test conditions. It is just not airborne in the manner that dust or smoke is.
