Yea tried it with the full moon Wed/Thurs and caught fish. But it was super foggy and just not worth it IMO. Couldn't see anything and throwing the Megabass without knowing where it is landing not fun--either lose the lure or short cast a bunch. Fished until 10:30 or so two nights. Caught on jigs and jerkbaits. Did catch one 19-inch walleye. And yea, it was not a deep one and it came out in one yank..unlike mine last year..that hurt lol.

Another week on Taneycomo for my annual vacation has ended, and it was great as always. Fishing was tough some days, but we caught a lot of fish. I saw some giants in the Narrows (20+ pound browns and big rainbows) as well as Frank, Frankie and Carl upstream from Trout Hollow. They were not interested in biting anything thrown at them. We threw the usual jerkbaits in the afternoon when the water kicked on--Spro McStick's in Table Rock Shad, Normal Flake, and Ghost colors, Megabass 110+1's in elegy bone, and 6th Sense Provokes in ghost threadfin. We did not catch a lot of fish every afternoon, but the ones we did catch were all healthy and 16-18-inches on average. A lot of bonus fish, too. Multiple white bass, smallmouth, kan-tucks, and walleye. Most came right below the cable on the south side, but we did catch one walleye right above Lilley's and I saw one above Monkey Island that was 26-inches or so. I have a feeling the walleye are starting to explore, and I bet they start getting caught down from Fall Creek quite a bit. Did not land any fish over 20-inches on a jerkbait, but we had two browns on (one broke my buddy's line, the other spit it) that were 24-inches or so and I guess 5-6-pounds. Those came below Lookout and below the Cooper Creek docks, respectively. Dragging crankbaits (Bomber Fat Free Fingerling Shad in Pearl White and Shadtreuse) was our most consistent bite with the water on, and produced the biggest fish. My cousin John caught a 21-inch rainbow, and I had a 23-inch/5-pounder on above Trophy Run that jumped and shook me. Our second day my grandpa had a brown on that we never fully saw, but it was big. Its back half came out of the water and his tail was about 8-inches wide and adipose fin was about the size of the top-half of my thumb. He dove down and the crank popped off. That is the one problem with crankbaits--they are easy for the fish to throw. We caught a lot on jigs with the water off. We used 1/16 and 1/32-ounce jigs in sculpin, sculpin/black, sculpin/ginger, and black and caught a lot of nice fish. You have to fish it slow. If you think you are letting it sink long enough, let it sink more. I did throw a 1/8-ounce white jig with the water on and caught some nice fish. I stripped a weighted black/purple wooly in the Narrows with the water off and did very well. It is a lot better and more fun than using what Chuck calls the Handicapped Rig (egg and scud/midge) under a float. Went out with Duane Tuesday morning around 5:30 am and we did not catch a lot of fish, but the ones were caught were pigs. We probably caught nine fish, all on Duane's jerkbaits, but none was shorter than 18-inches. And Duane landed a tank of a rainbow, measuring 24.75-inches and weighing just under nine pounds. Got a hook in my buddy's finger, too!

It's pretty evident Facebook fishing groups are divisive and bring out the worst in people. I hate them. You post a pic of a fish you almost always get "why are you holding it like that? Did you release it? Why'd you use xyz bait?" It's ignorant and annoying. It'd be fine if it was done the right way, but it never is. Keyboard warriors. Franklin said "never insult somebody in public, you only make enemies." Insult them in private, sure. Same with hunting groups. If you ever post a pic of a buck, you have more balls than I.

Oh, they work. Get a Jake's Spin-a-Lure and you will catch fish. Like Babler said, generally better from Fall Creek on down. From the Landing all the way to Rockaway Beach I have caught, or witnessed being caught, multiple big fish. Try trolling them with weight on the bluff banks and without weight in the shallower areas. Or cast them. Can't go wrong. My buddy has caught multiple 5+ pound browns on Jake's from Bee Creek down to Powersite. It's bigger water and acts more like a traditional lake, so trolling is good. Dickey and I think downriggers could produce some huge fish down lake. Best colors I've had on the Jake's are gold/red, black/yellow and silver/red. Good luck!

Well I finally was able to fish for an extended period of time, and it was on! Blake, from Lilley's Landing, and I boated up to the cable Saturday, 7/27 around 4:00 pm. We fished until dark-thirty, making several drifts from the cable through Trophy Run, and then from Lookout to Trout Hollow. Blake was throwing a 1/16-ounce peach jig with a sculpin head and the trout were hammering it. I, of course, threw a jerkbait. The ticket this time was a Spro McStick in Table Rock Shad. Fish were slamming it--hard! Lots of chasers but a lot of fish hitting within a few jerks. Most of them had all three hooks in them, somewhere, too. A real pain to release them without getting some new jewelry. We landed around 70 fish in 4.5 hours. Biggest we landed were some absolute chunk rainbows by the cable and through Rebar. A few were 16-17-inches and two pounds or more. The fish are fat and healthy. We had 2 units running and fish were everywhere--near the bank, middle of the lake, and near structure. I missed one just below the cable on the south side that was 20-inches or more. Big rainbow that went after it, but she just whiffed on the McStick. On my last cast I landed a 16-inch brown just across from Trout Hollow on the gravel bank and wood. A nice end to a heck of an afternoon. Dillon and Jack Harris were fishing around us most of the afternoon. Everyone caught a lot of nice fish. Jack caught a 19-inch rainbow on a sculpin/olive jib and Dillon had one 20-inches near the boat but lost it (due to a net mishap). Shags from 96.7 KCMQ and and his graphic designer, Tim, were around us, too. They did well on scuplin/olive jigs, Shad Raps, and a variety of baits. Here are a couple of his photos from the weekend. Truth! Went to visit my buddy in Denver a couple Junes ago. Drove up to Boulder to fish. When I left his house that morning it was 67 deg and when I got to my fishing spot it was 34 deg. I was not complaining but holy hell was it cold.

I think it's just because I'm stuck up here with all these 90 degree ponds year after year. If I lived in the Ozarks and was able to do that, I'd have a different view I'm sure.

Also, after enjoying a Casey's breakfast of large Kona blend coffee, two slices of breakfast 'za, and a cake donut, getting out of waders fast enough to not fill them up is an extreme sport.

Sitting here at work in KC and it is 97 degrees outside already. Heat index getting up to 110 this evening. All this does is make me think I have reverse seasonal depression! I hate summer. I hate "going to the lake," boating, etc. If I am going to a body of water, I want to fish it. Give me fall and spring--fishing is great, hunting seasons are open, you avoid a full-on flop sweat when walking to your car. Anyway, who else is preparing for teal season? What do you all think will happen this year for numbers? I've been hearing duck hatches have been excellent up north. I only hope! I need teal season and walleye fishing on Stockton.

Probably not. Have to be in STL Saturday afternoon so I'd like to sleep some. But we shall see!

I started a new job with Cerner in May and I have not fished since May 11th. That is 60 days. I am going nuts. I made the decision to take off Friday and I am coming down to fish Taneycomo for the first time since February (which was a good trip). Anybody going to be down? Plan on wading in the morning then seeing if Phil has a boat available for the afternoon. I will have a report after the day, assuming I catch fish. None of you care, I'm sure, but I had to post this somewhere haha. I am going crazy!

If you ask @duckydoty if you have enough grit you can get there pretty much whenever. Then I remind him I am renting one of Phil's boats. If you're at 706+ you should be able to get up there.

Reminds of how to cook diving ducks so they taste great. Clean them thoroughly, remove the skin, wrap in bacon, place on a cedar board. Smoke or grill for 15 minutes. Remove from the board and take off the bacon. Eat the bacon and cedar board and toss the duck.

I get the point of showing it CAN be contracted, but this is extreme. They injected it into their brains and they developed it? I'll be darn. Countless other published studies had the other outcome when simply feeding them meat from CWD positive deer. Will it be able to cross over easily in the coming years? Yea, I think so. That's how evolution works. But the hysteria is ridiculous.

This is what happens when humans think we can cure and fix everything--nature has its forest fires and maybe it's one of them? We need a plague anyway. If you don't think there is something lying in wait to knock out half our population (or more) in the next hundreds of years, you are naive. Also, as I've said before, LD is not credible and is a certifiable nut. He didn't get a job with the MDC years ago and went on a vendetta. It's sad.

You should have the USACE daily generation schedule populate at the top (even though it's mostly inaccurate certain times of the year), along with weather data. Check out DeerCast. I like their format..and they pay me.
