  1. Fished late afternoon/evening on 6-24-2021. Different place, different fish. Caught Green Sunfish, including this big one: ...some Redear Sunfish. I just noticed the first one below has some interesting blue on its belly: Bluegill (on the right) and..I think a redear hybrid?: ...and some largemouth bass: None of the bass were very big. I thought the one on the left below was interesting as it had a lot of blue/green highlights along the belly, but it didn't show up well in the picture...maybe my polarized sunglasses pick it up better? And the one on the right was missing its lateral line stripe. Also, the other 3 bass have uniform colored tails, but the one on the right below has a tail that appears lighter near the base and darker along the posterior edge.
  2. (FND32) Hybrid Striped Bass
  3. Caught a couple creek chubs yesterday. Caught a few dull-colored Longear Sunfish out of one muddied-up creek. Went to another creek and caught this handsome fella. Caught a couple shortnose gar. Not as many visible on this trip...until I found a bunch of shortnose and longnose gathered in one spot. Caught 3 little channel cats while trying for grass carp. Only saw a couple grass carp this time. Caught 5.
  4. Yeah, big fish are easy! 😁 I used to flyfish after dark, and could often see my fly line good enough to detect strikes. Didn't realize that skill would diminish with time, too.
  5. Yeah! Why not? Somebody certainly is!
  6. Ha ha, ok ok.... Are you teasing me? The backstory is...Ham gave me a tiny fly and tiny tippet to tie on, so I could try for the Dollar Sunfish. After I had lazer surgery on my eyes a few years ago, my near vision is much worse than before. My distance vision isn't great either. I make do, and try to avoid tiny hooks. So...trying to tie a tiny fly on tiny tippet... I worked at it for quite awhile. Eventually, Ham tried to rescue me and tie it on himself...and then determined the eyelet was glued shut. So... it wasn't all my fault...was it?
  7. Chubs are sweet! I'd love to catch chubs THIS size!
  8. Shad are pretty cool and all... but can't I just jump directly to tarpon? 😜 I worked my way up from Gizzard Shad to Goldeye to Skipjack Herring already... And since I've already caught Creek Chubs, I really feel like I can handle just about any fish! Creek chubs are pure adrenaline.... 🥱
  9. Right? The mouth is shaped VERY similar to a tarpon. I haven't caught an actual tarpon yet. Maybe someday...
  10. Can you shake my fish?
  11. c'mon...you can ALWAYS buy walleye! 😄 https://www.walleyedirect.com/category/walleye.html
  12. The bigger one sure fought well. They never seem to tire or give up. Eventually, they just get bored.
  13. Thanks fellas!
  14. Flyfished for a bit on Saturday 6/16-2021. Caught a largemouth bass, a skipjack herring, a couple shortnose gar, 5 small grass carp, and one mid-sized grass carp: A few hours after getting home, we had a nice storm pass by.
  15. Sorry to hear about your Mother-in-Law. I hope she beats the virus.
  16. I found some pointers. Sorry, I couldn't resist. 😁
  17. I can understand that. Plenty manage to shake free. I'm glad to catch something, but I have to admit gar are distracting...instead of fishing for bigger fish that might be hanging deeper, I take the easy visual gar target. At some point I'll probably start to ignore them. Buts it's so fun!
  18. Some have jumped. But I never know how well they are hooked, and so I'm usually keeping a LOT of pressure on them to help prevent them from throwing the hook. So, that probably makes it harder for them to get the momentum to jump. But some still do.
  19. Caught another Longnose Gar.
  20. (FND31) Kentucky Spotted Bass:
  21. Livie should make it her goal to beat Steve! 😃
  22. Wow...that's impressive!! For those wondering what all 13 Lepomis species are (I wanted to know!): I still need 3...Redbreast, Northern, and Spotted.
  23. Dang. Every parent's worst nightmare. I'm sorry for your loss.
