came in groups. bo -
have not posted for a bit because of being too busy to go fishing, but got out last night from 7:30 to 11:30. did not catch one keeper until just before dark, and the bite was on. ended up with 12 keepes, and only two were in the 3lb. range. none of these bass had spawned or were even in the process. all were fat and slick, not a mark on them. did most of the damage on a 1/2 oz. Elite with brown and blue skirt, and solid blue trailer. steep banks were working, and most bites came from 8 to 12 ft. deep. surface temp was 64. someone that has a drop down temp told me that just a couple of days ago, they took the water temp. in the kings, and at 10ft. the temp was 55. good reason to think we may have some spawning still going on come the end of may. bo

great outing!! bo

looks like a bit of hard work paid off. i really have not talked to anyone that has found the crappie bunched up, or on the bank much. i would think it should begin anytime though. bo

there are several crank baits that come to my mind. the original wood bomber for one. several models of rebel crank baits that are no longer made, but i still use. topwaters, a hoodler is still hard to beat. bo

really nice fishing trip! my wife and i caught quite a few bass back in the late winter on the little guy. too bad you missed out on a slam with a mean mouth in the bunch. bo -
electric blue worms still catch bass for those of us that still throw them. maybe because no one else throws them is still why they catch bass year after year for me. bo

champ that is how fishing goes. sometimes you get all of them into the boat. your experience with all the boats is why i do not like to daytime fish anymore. back when i fished the tournaments, i just had to put up with it. the lower gas prices have got many fisherman back on the lake. only god knows what a zoo it might be this summer, yikes!!! i bet the critter bite was a lot of fun. bo

nothing like a great top water bite. bo

what a great day of catching quill. i can tell you that getting bit and having bass tugging on your line makes for an enjoyable day. i think bass will be found a bit deeper for another week or so, and then we will begin to see more of them up cruising. bo glad you tried the hook change. it really does make a big difference in hook ups, and consistently hooking more in the roof of the mouth.

Kings River - Hickory Hollow access - Tuesday April 7

great job! i have not heard of any of my buddies catching them up on the bank yet. they have been catching them out deeper, but that sure could change any day. bo -
whew!! the bite did not start until midnight tonight. ended up with 13 keepers, with 4 being in the 3 lb. range. coves were again the best for us. did not do well on any main lake stuff. best bait, again, was the 1/4 hair jig, and a 3/8 rubber, with the hair jig doing just a bit better. best depth was 10 to 15 ft. with a few bites at 20 ft. with the bite being as deep as it has been at night, i would think the daytime bite would be 15 to 20. probably find them a bit more shallow, 10 to 12 ft., in the murky water. there is tons of bait back in the coves, and during the day, a lot of bass might even stay suspended eating on the shad. this would be a great time to catch them on a holy rogue. bo

that is a great day of catching for sure!! very nice brownie. bo

sounds like a very good day of fishing to me, and you did not even let catching one on the first cast bother you either . bo

i use braid all the time for just about any fishing, and with braid a 7' mh will do just fine to flip and pitch with. in fact, i bought a couple of cabela's tourney trail rods the other day that were on sale for 29.88, and they are a good rod. IM7 blank, great backbone. bo

My 1998 Ranger R93 w/ '98 Mercury EFI

nice job. the great part is you can catch just as many fish out of it as you could in a brand new one. bo -
put in at big bay just before dark, and did not venture outside of big creek very far. results were 18 keepers, with one in the 4 lb. range, and two in the 3 lb. class. the rest were all 16 inch bass. only caught 5 or 6 shorts. best two lures were 1/4 hair jig with spring lizard pup, and a 3/8 rubber jig with a big flapper trailer (similar to zoom super chunk). depth of bite, for the most part, was 10 to 15 feet deep. caught a few off on the main lake banks, but most came from the coves. i know that one would think with 18 keepers that the bass were just tearing the bone out, but that was not the case. all the bites were that were what i call "the next to nothing" bites. simply like stuck on a rock, or the jig felt like it fell off of a two inch rock, and some could be detected by a very slight side ways movement of the line. and obviously with the depth of the bites, these bass were not up on the bank in a real feeding mode. bo forgot to mention that we had the boat back on the trailer at 1:45. so, we fished just about 6 hours.

they have been on up above the romp hole. i have a buddy that has just been killing them on up above. bo -
hey, that is a great afternoon anytime. bo

champ, it is more from years of experience, and knowing when and where the perfect conditions arrive. those same bass will not be there today, but they will be very close to where they were yesterday. one may or may not be able to catch them on the same lures, but i would bet for those with enough patience, the jig would still get them, and they would be more in the 10 ft. range. seems like that might just be right down donna's alley. bo

nasty weather is about the only time you can somewhat have the lake to yourself anymore. yesterday was a great example of that. bo

got to fish for a few hours yesterday afternoon. we put in at eagle rock and fished the mud coming into the creeks. results were 12 keepers with some really nice bass. nothing in the 5 lb. range though. did have a couple 4's, and three in the 3 lb. range. most of the rest where in the 16 inch range and all looked to be females, very pot bellied. water depth, 3 to 7 feet. area, very bottom on the creek. water color, mud. best lure was 3/8 jig with small trailer. 2nd best, 1/2 CrazyBlitz with small chunk type trailer. we only caught 5 or 6 short bass. working the jig today to get bites required to pretty much drag it very slowly along the bottom. i see many that post about shying away from muddy water. mud can be your best friend. sounds like they are biting in the clearer water also from the posts. sure wish it was not going to be so cold tonight because it is the full moon and the bite is on. bo

a friend of mine fished in the sweet water area monday and killed them. got to not let the trash bother you. bo

fished out of big m again last night. pretty much same as night before 10 keepers, but had a 4 and a 5. the two biggest came just before we quit at 1, and both came on a SpinJig. the jig bite did change. nothing on the hair jig and all on a 3/8 with brown and blue skirt and blue trailer. i feel that both nights, the bass were actually just beginning to get really going at 1, but have lots of work to get done. the position of the bass did change just a bit, and that is they had moved to the ends of the channel banks to just where the channel started to enter or leave a bank. like a said, a pack of dogs. got to hunt them up every trip. we did catch three keepers before dark on the single spins paralleling the steep bluffs. bo
