  1. Well JDC, how did you do????
  2. Nice fish. How was the flow? I heard they've quit floating Big Sugar because the water is so low. Or at least the outfitters won't put anyone on it.
  3. Was that your Durango I passed when I was heading home? We never saw another canoe, but there were 7 yaks on the creek. There was also two guys putting in when we took out at about 5:30. The fish were definitely hitting hard and I missed a lot of strikes at the hardware I was chucking at them. Some were short strikes and sideways hits that I just couldn't get to hook-up with.
  4. The float started at lime Kiln this morning at about 8:00, three canoes, three men, and three boys. Chief and Dylan, Mike ( WoundedOne )and his son Ian, and me and Dayton, one of Dylans friends. A lot of fish were caught through out the day on several different baits. I'll post a couple of pics of the highlights. My first and best fish of the day came at about 8:30. It was about 2 lbs. and totally slammed my buzzbait. No picture of that one. A few minutes later Dayton made a cast over to the edge of a large section of moss and I hear this huge splash and turn around to see him fighting a big fish. It took him under the boat and back twice before I got a good look at it. Not a bass. Nope, it was a fat carp that absolutely inhaled his mini crankbait. I can't speak for the other guys, but everyone caught a lot of fish and some good ones too. Chief caught a very nice smallmouth that I got a picture of and a goggle-eye with some odd markings. The last picture is one of Dylan from a couple of weeks back with a double hook-up. I had a blast today. Of course I always do with these guys.
  5. Looks like a great day. That's one nice brownie Eric.
  6. I can't really speak about Table Rock, but on the creeks and streams that I fish I like P-line or Vanish. I tie a regular Trilene knot and seldom break off at the jig. I've found that 8 and 10 pound test covers all of the water that I fish, both clear and off colored. The only exception would be 4 lb. for the really small baits in super clear pressured streams. They also seem to handle the normal abrasions that you would expect on creeks. On big baits, like spinnerbaits, I don't worry about the fish seeing the line because I figure most bites are instinct driven anyways, 14 to 17 lb.test Berkley Trilene covers that.
  7. The 12th works for me.
  8. Sounds like a great day. I wish I hadn't sat last weekend out. Thanks for the report.
  9. Yep, that's him alright.
  10. Was he covered in freckles and cussing like a sailor? Ollie, I had a feeling he ( the Bear not Chief ) might be down around Hickory Creek. Looks like we may be picking up more than Wal-Mart bags this Fall.
  11. Yeah, and now he wants his job back? Good luck HERO.....
  12. Finally a Sunday float. I'm In.
  13. Now that's an investment that can't go wrong.
  14. I really like that second picture.
  15. I really like fishing the C & R section. There are some really nice sized fish in there too. I had a rainbow of at least 4 pounds swim right up to me 3 times. He just wasn't hungry. Not to mention the fact that with this heat it is nice to get in and wade. Were you weighting the worms or just letting them sink on thier own?
  16. Nice fish. Sounds like a really good morning.
  17. I for one am glad they are making a comeback. I have yet to see one in the wild and am looking forward to it. The area where this bear was found is near a lot of conservation land. There's no telling how many more are located in that huge expanse of forest and farmland.
  18. Nice fish. I never understood why the combination of black and blue works but it does. Thanks for the report.
  19. I've never had any dealings with one of those retards, as Flysmallie put it. I just hope he doesn't get too close when I'm chucking a heavy wooly bugger.
  20. I can say one thing, they will never forget thier time on the water with you. Great post. It takes me back to when my sons were much younger.

Yeah, that fish and all of the others were fat and healthy. We didn't catch a single fish that looked undernourished. All of the brownies I caught hit soft plastic craws (the usual arsenal) and weren't messng around. On the other hand, I had too many strikes on the buzzbait to count and never boated a single one. They were short striking the bait and several times they nearly pulled the skirt off. Unfortunately I didn't have any trailer hooks with me.

I met up with WoundedOne at about 8:45 this morning. We left his truck at the takeout and headed upstream. It started off a little slow, with only a couple of short strikes at a buzzbait until WoundedOne finally hooked up with the first fish of the morning, a nice 13" LM. It took me a little while but I finally got one in the boat, another LM about the same size. Not too long after that, my partner made a great cast behind a rootwad and the next thing I hear is "there's a fish". And a nice one it was too, the biggest LM of the day. He has a way of catching at least one really nice LM everytime we float. About 11:00am the fish started biting pretty good. I caught several fish in and around fast water. I even broke off a really nice brownie in a stretch of fast water. He jumped twice after I broke off, I think I saw a middle fin. After retying I managed one more smaller brownie and two LM's about 14". Finally we made it to one of my favorite spots on this creek. It's a fast water section with a good amount of chunk rocks. In this somewhat narrow run I caught 5 brownies, none of which were smaller than 14 in. and my biggest of the day, which measured over 15 in. I definitely caught more smallmouth today than I did Largemouth. It was a fun day and it was a great time fishing with Woundedone. We'll do it again real soon.
  24. Happy belated birthday old man.
  25. Wow. Two good days in a row. You must be doing something right. Nice fish.
