The paddling center at Flat Creek is going out of business, most I priced were 100 or better off the prices he had posted on the net. I bought a pack angler (sorry guys the last one) but had my eye on a 14;10" camper for around 900... http://www.ozarkcanoe.com/

I’m contacting you about one of my favorite places in the world, the Current River . As you will see below the National Park Service is taking comments on a new 20 year plan for the National Scenic Riverways: the Current and the Jacks Fork Rivers . The issue is very timely, (comments due July 31st) and so important to those of us that use and enjoy this National Park area. I was hoping you could post and forward about this informational meeting to any other low impact conservation minded groups, family and friends you think would be interested. Thanks in advance for your help. Please try to join us to discuss the proposed changes for the management plan for the Current & Jacks Fork Rivers that many of us cherish and enjoy. There will be an educational meeting to discuss the alternative proposals by the National Park Service at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, July 7 at the MDC Springfield Conservation Nature Center , 4600 S Chrisman in the auditorium. The National Park Service held a series of meetings that have now concluded, but NONE in SW MO. NPS representatives are invited to the July 7th meeting as well as other local experts, to discuss the several options under consideration. Please try to come and see what the NPS says is going to be the fate of the Ozark National Scenic Riverways for at least the next twenty years. To learn more, you can also view a new Missouri Parks Association and Friends of Ozark Riverways documentary entitled Why We Must Save the Current River, Again . For the first time ever, it tells the story of the Riverways from the conservationist point of view. It reminds us all of those who went before and why they saved the Current and Jacks Fork rivers, and why we must follow their example, and save the rivers, again. If you cannot attend this one and only meeting in this part of the State, please review the plan and submit your comments in support of better management practices including implementation of appropriate usage standards. Every comment counts, so please make yours. You may also submit comments in writing and, most recommended, electronically . (http://parkplanning.nps.gov/ozar) Meeting or not, plan on getting your comments in by July 31. The new General Management Plan needs to put the health of the rivers first, because we already have lakes for fast boats, amusement parks with water rides and go kart tracks for motorized vehicles. These rivers are a unique and fragile resource that should be protected for future generations to enjoy as we have. The Current River and its tributary the Jacks Fork, are in danger of being loved to the point of destruction. They are legendary for their constant flow of clear, cool waters. Fed by more than 350 springs, including the 278 million-gallon-per-day Big Spring which is one of the largest springs in North America , and the dazzling Blue Spring, the 134 miles of the Current and Jacks Fork rivers flow through beautiful Ozark country. Because of its amazing character, the Current and Jacks Fork Rivers were designated in 1964 by Congress as the Ozark National Scenic Riverways and are part of America 's National Park System. These rivers and their valleys unsurpassed in America for quality, richness, and beauty. The people of Missouri lead the effort to designate and protect these outstanding rivers. Now, 45 years later, the Current and Jacks Fork Rivers need our help and attention again. All is not well, but we have an opportunity to make a positive difference and ensure the health of the rivers 45 years from now. Please forward this email to anyone that is interested regardless if they can attend the meeting so they can view the plans online and submit E-comments. A buddy of mine bought one at a farm sale several years ago, no title no S/N. He made an appointment with the Highway Patrol, much like you would to license a homemade trailer, they checked it out, issued a S/N and title. g

Had problem with previous post so will try again. Just came off 3 days on Pruitt to Woolum. You should be fine on lower river, would suggest mid week rather than weekend. Check http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/...mmary/state/AR/ for water levels they seem to be accurate honest information. Fishing was good. Could not get bit on my Daves Hopper and fly rod, so went with chug bug, pop r and texas rig green pumpkin lizard. had 2 SM over 18" lots of smaller, near the bank in the shade they are all still swiming. g

Fly Casting Class
grizwilson replied to Gallagher's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
The MTFA meets at the Springfield Nature Center the first Thursday of each month at 630 PM. They have numerous instuctors who have taught the Fly Fishing class at MSU for many years. They will welcome you and help, without joining but for $10 it is cheaper than a casting lesson, and a great group of folks. Check out thier website, http://mtfa-springfield.org/ g -
65 south to Harrison, 7 from Harrison to Jasper, 74 toward Ponca as zhoyt says watch for signs if you get to steel creek turnoff you went too far. If you are floating I would suggest going lower, perhaps Pruitt to Carver as the water is falling fast on the upper end, just came off 3 days on the river. g

Old Town Discovery
grizwilson replied to yakfisher's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
Appears to be polylink rather than Royalex, thus 10# or so more weight. http://www.oldtowncanoe.com/canoes/general...covery_119.html http://www.oldtowncanoe.com/canoes/generalFamily/pack.html based on full retail $230 for 10 lbs weight and a plastic rather than web seat.... g -
I assume you were casting rather than vertical jiging do to the variety of depth?

I use an acohol burner rather than a lighter (from by arrow building stuff) toaster oven works great, simple and cheap. Would buy rather than build but can not find what I need, like a 80th oz jig head with a #6 hook for crappie, most have a size 10 etc. g

Best Fiberglass Jon Boat
grizwilson replied to Piscator's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I fish the white a bunch, prefer low water. In the warm and dry years my jet is the mainstay. This year it is hung in the shed, my 9.9 prop is set on back. The jet is wonderful in low water, but high, it catches so much trash it clogs up so much not worth the hassle, and do not need the shallow option. I know Gary Flippin at Rim Shoals loves the jets, but in high water he has to store them as the clog and customers burn them up with no water to the motor. So for my .02 get one of each, Jet wonderful in low water, 9.9 prop puts you on crooked creek or Buffalo..... g -
One other thing you could do, however, to excite your weekend: take a lawn chair and a jug of sweet tea and sit in an obscure place in the shade near a boat ramp and observe these unending spectacles first hand. Watching boat ramp antics is some of the best free entertainment you can get. This advise can be dangerous. I still have nightmares from the 300# plus woman I seen at Masters in a string bikini...... here come the flashbacks again no weekends at Stockton for me.

Best Fiberglass Jon Boat
grizwilson replied to Piscator's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
The "best" is whichever one you can use the most. I would rather have a $200 boat I can use 300 days per year than a 10, 000 boat I can use 5 days a year.... I have 5 boats.... no wonder I have trouble on the job..... g -

Anybody Got A Picture Of This Fly?
grizwilson replied to DaddyO's topic in General Angling Discussion
There is a good picture in the Home Waters book. John Berry allowed me to take photos at the sowbug and I had hoped to post to that link. However, Mr. Berry's skill tying far exceeds my photo skills, I can try to send them but they are not much good. I may be able to make a good picture of the finished fly will see. g -
The water near the Dam is fairly clear 2 1/2- 3 ft. visible, around the Nemo bridge less than a ft. visable have not been up far on Pomme arm but would guss with the rain muddy. Crappie bite has been pitiful for me, can catch bass on the points off spawing coves swiming grubs, can not drag much as the slimey moss is pretty thick. g
