Thank you for the compliment. This year, the walleye seem to be doing a stealth spawn. Some are done. Some are staging. I think the majority are with the white bass who have not yet moved up. Powerdive's post has much merit, although I would add lindy rigging to the set of tools and I would not be afraid of water skinnier than 10 feet.

I apologize, Tom, but an error in your post forces me to reply. Lawyers have nothing to do with rental availability. First, those who rent boats normally have a waiver form the rentor must sign. Second, federal law sharply limits the liability of boat owners. 46 USC Section 188. Third, if you Google "rental boat liability" and "rental boat verdict" the few cases that are mixed with the off topic matter appear to all be cases in which the boat operator did something stupid with a rented boat and got sued. I am willing to let anyone say that lawyers are responsible for global warming due to hot gas discharges. I acknowledge that it is hard to love someone who represents a child abuser. But blaming me and my brethern for harming fishing is going too far.

At one time I recall reading a thread about donating fishing equipment for some worthy cause or another. Can't find it, so I thought I'd start this thread and ask for help/advice. She to whom I must listen has decreed that my recent rod acquisitions and builds dictate that I cull the old. (What she actually said was, "You need to clean up that mess and get rid of it." For her that is harsh language.) I have about 8 well used rods ranging from a 7"6" ML Ugly Stick to a couple of Falcon Caras and Lowriders. Most are BC but there is a couple of spinning rods. All are serviceable but show wear. I have four or five old Shimanos and BPS reels. Again a mix of BC and spinning. I need a name and address for someplace where veterans or youth will get some use from these items. I will pay to ship if it is one location. Thanks in advance. Randy

I'm sorry guys. I do NOT need a reason to add another rod and reel. Believe me, an A rig would destroy me or my rod/reel if I tried to fish it on the gear I have now. I do not flip. I do not swim bait. I do not striper fish. I enjoy fishing jigs less than 1/2 ounce. It may be the best thing since sliced bread, but this too shall pass. Does anyone remember the River Runt or the Cisco Kid?

I never have fished Dale Hollow - or any of those TVA lakes in your new area. I've read tons about them over the years and understand they are fish factories. Blue walleye are evidently two types. One is a true genetic blue. The other has some kind of substance in its skin slime that makes it blue. The walleye boards have threads from time to time reporting blues and the discussion inevitably falls back to true blue versus posers. Regardless, they all seem to eat well. BTW, the dam hole below those TVA lakes are usually full of saugeyes and its the right time of year for them. Thanks for remembering me. Hope all is well.

Honestly, 2011 was a tremendous year for me (other than pneumonia and surgery). A 23 inch Large mouth on a topwater and two walleye in the walleye central 10 pound club will probably be impossible to match. I just hope the fall off is not too abrupt.

Check out an alternative - an Alumacraft Navigator 165 Sport or SC with your choice of 90 HP motor will cost very nearly the same as the Tracker you are investigating. It will be better built, dryer, and more stable. It will also hold its resale value. I have a 2010 model with tiller steer and the max 75HP allowed on the tiller steer. With a stock prop and a fully loaded boat with two people it runs about 32 mph at top end and holds plane at little more than half throttle.

Above 62 bridge the only boats will be river boats and those are generally well mannered to waders and canoes. The "lake paddling" section will be from the 62 bridge to Houseman and that is only a mile or so and includes some excellent fishing water.

In the blog section of this site you will find RS Breth. His blog used to contain much about river/creek fishing, with pictures. Also search for posts by Cheif, RS Breth, Dutch, Smalliebigs, and others whose screen names will not pop into my head. Their interests and reports will be very useful to you. My short list: a good walk the dog lure, buzz bait, white/gray flukes, coffee colored tubes, compact short arm spinner baits, a jerk bait, and 1/8 ounce jig heads for use with 4" green and smoke worms or grubs.

My father had a canvas hulled car top boat in the early 50's. I think he called it a Pinon. Your project brings back very good memories.
