    What's Cooking?

The beautiful wife and I fed ourselves and six others. No one went home hungry. In all honesty, I would love to gather and share as this more than once a year. In some cultures, in times past, that happened.

    What's Cooking?

Turkey breast is rolled. Thighs and legs are smoking over hickory. Dressing is made with stock I made from the wings, carcass, and neck. Pumpkin cheesecake is made. Gravy and queso are made. About to make the mashed potatoes for reheating tomorrow. All of that will leave only the breast roll, vegetable casserole, and salad to make tomorrow.
  4. Bill, if I still lived at HI, I would protest you sending strangers to my old area. To add to your options, slow roll a twin spin not far off the bottom, along the timberline and/or bluff end. If you want to go total old school, use one with black deer hair and a green spot pork frog.

    What's Cooking?

Turkey is thawed. Tomorrow I take the skin and breast off. The thighs and legs and wings are headed for the smoker on Tuesday. The breasts will dry brine and go into a roll. Sous vide and then oven browning on Thursday. Wish I had duck too.

    What's Cooking?

My tonight meal is leftover corned beef baked hash with leftover tabouli. Tabouli is definitely better the second day.

    What's Cooking?

Strange fusion meal. Cajun muffaletta and middle eastern tabouli.

    Gasville Advisory

Actually, it has two "s"s. The unintentional malaprop of the title is funny.
  10. I mis-spoke. I meant to say American Legion. About the "lame." I do not know why, but the event here is not even as good as the ones I attended in Eureka Springs with my 8th grade.
  11. I am a former National Guardsman. In my mind that does not make me a veteran. The Veterans parade in Tulsa, despite the best efforts of people I know and respect, is lame. No way am I going to the breakfast at the VFW post. On Fridays I always meet a small group of like age gentlemen for breakfast at 10:00. One other of the group was a reservist. This morning, as we solved world problems after eating, a gentleman and his wife came in for early lunch. He was wearing a hat commemorating his naval service during the VN era. Our table figured the least we could do was buy their lunch anonymously. Guess how we felt.

    Gasville Advisory

Green fuzzy jerky? Vinnies on the outhouse floor? Possums? Part of what makes me read this forum is the way ANY topic can turn, in the blink of the eye, into something unexpected. On a related note, on my profile, I see zero warning points. How many do you believe some (ahem) unnamed members may have?

    What's Cooking?

Real, homemade chicken stock with chicken, onion, celery, bell pepper, carrot, and spinach. The lovely wife made biscuits.

    Gasville Advisory

I don't know how they tell the difference between bacterial and viral, or even if they try. The doc called it food poisoning. The paperwork says viral gastroenteritis.

    Gasville Advisory

I am 73, and I have eaten at places all over the world. Haute cuisine, chains, and many dives. This was a first for me. I don't want seconds. The wife traveled extensively for her work and wound up poisoned in Singapore. Mussels. She flew back to the states the next day. She said she spent most of the flight in the loo. She looked like death warmed over when she arrived in Tulsa.

    Gasville Advisory

    I won't name names.
  22. Drove to the river on Monday. We intended to fish two days with Cranor's. We checked into the motel there and drove into Gasville for dinner. We went out a 7:30 Tuesday morning. By 10:00 we had caught 6 nice, but not great, browns and two or three non-stocker rainbows. (pictures later.) About then I began to feel dizzy, clammy, and the others in the boat could hear my stomach. I asked them to take me in. As soon as I got out of the boat, I realized I did not have the strength to walk up the hill. I sat down, and they used the fourwheeler to take me to my room. Once in the door, I experienced The Single Most Disgusting Day of My Life. I asked them to call emergency services, which took me into the Mountain Home Regional Hospital. Food poisoning, which had caused the gastrointestinal attack which resulted in drastic dehydration. They pumped me full of 2 liters of fluids by IV and held me five hours. I am home now, a full day early. I know I will receive medical bills, and I have a badger of a wife wife lecturing me on hydration. I need to call the resort and pay them for the room. And tip the poor people who did cleanup. (No one ever hired on to clean that place up.) Don't eat tamales in Gasville.

Thanks for the compliment. I am sorry lamb does not suit you, I love lamb and young goat. Grownups of either are too strong for me

Lamb chop, faro with feta, and broccoli.
  25. That fish is obscene.
