  1. You can buy anything that has been offered for sale at its offered price. You can offer to buy anything at a selected price. You can offer to sell at a selected price. You can sell at market price (what ever that may be) by placing a sell order for execution. Sales price is compared to your cost of acquisition (basis) to determine gain or loss. Tax rate on gain and deduction of losses are determined by the status of the gain/loss i.e. long term or short term. Any dividends paid to you while you hold the stock is a separate category of income from wages or business profit. Based on experience I strongly urge you to treat all investments which you plan to watch and trade frequently the same way as you treat bets in a card game - never bet more than you can afford to lose and smile when you walk away. The best investment strategy for someone who is not a full time professional (or the very rare amateur who has learned as much as one) is to buy, hold, adjust, hold, adjust, (repeat as needed)and sell as needed after retirement. Long term investment is the only protection we have against market fluctuations and stock manipulations. One more thing. My father in law's advice: Buy low; sell high; don't aim for the peaks or bottoms; aim for the middle of the trends. The quiz will be Friday. :-)
  2. Someone told me they link, but I don't know that for a fact. I guess I should have looked into it. As for the transducer breakage, that is the reason I opted for the universal sonar troll motor model.
  3. I used Tracy Marine in Mountain Home. So far they have been very good to work with. It is a multi-generational business that's been there since the 80's. Yes I looked long and hard at both the Lund and the G3. G3 must have hired someone from Lund or Alumacraft because the similarities are there. With Lund you pretty much have to accept a Merc, and be prepared to spend 2-4k more. If I were to decide on a Lund, my first stop would be Cope Marine in Branson. G3 is, of course, a Yamaha. Alumacraft you pick any powerplant you want. The Etec was offering a 5 year warranty special and I kind of like the no scheduled maintenance for 300 hours idea. If you want the Alumacraft with a Yamaha, the Kansas City Cabelas is a good fit. The Merc vs. Yamaha vs. Etec wars light up Walleye Central all the time. I figure this may be the last one so I got what I wanted.
  4. In one form or another the early morning topwater bite will last until sometime in July. As you leave Campbell Point and head upriver (to your right) the long point and pocket that is the end of Campbell bluff is a good start point. If you go left out of Campbell Point the flat with stumps immediately on the other side of the ramp has also yielded early morning fish to me. Between Campbell Point and upriver to the place where the Kings flows into the White, there are a number of long, flat gravel points, many with channels on the side. Fish these. Put you boat where you can almost reach the bank with a cast, then turn around and cast away from land. If a channel does brush the point, be sure to fish where the channel edge meets the point side, especially if there a submerged trees present. Good luck.
  5. Can't really review it yet. The dealer is still putting things together. Depending on the arrival of a power extension cord, I may be able to drive it by the weekend. 16'8" boat with 91" beam. 75 hp Etec tiller with Titan Tiller Steer assist. 3 bank Promarine charger. Humminbird 898 si sonar/gps in the back. Humminbird 778c up front terrova 80 lb 24 volt troll motor with universal sonar and copilot. Preliminary pictures:
  6. Never been on it. Always wanted to fish it. That's why I offered to join you to "help you out." I have fished the extreme lower end where it flows into the White. Because of the underground flow of the creek, you can't go very far up river from the White.
  7. flyytier: have my own license, Chief's canoe once was mine (an inside joke), and for fee I was thinking a diet coke. what. you can't even spare a diet coke for an impartial judge?
  8. Chief and flytier: Sounds to me like you two need an umpire. I volunteer to follow behind you in my kayak and resolve all disputes impartially. My fee will be small.
  9. outstanding fish, Bman!

    Best Depth?

Hello T4W! Been a while. What I meant was what I do to catch fish this time of year. I go out before dawn and fish a topwater until the sun is full on the water. For you and trolling, this would mean trolling a floating rapala type bait down to 2 to 4 feet and using the boat to hit places where points stick out towards the channel. If I were doing this, I would use planer boards to get the bait out of the path of the boat. BTW, people use this method during dark to catch huge walleyes.
  11. Do a search on last June's reports. Also read up on Babler's, Prey's, House's, and Captain Joe's post spawn reports and articles from last year. This forum has huge amounts of knowledge waiting to be used. As a starter - plan on fishing top waters (but not necessarily shallow) from before daylight to sun on water. After that you will probably face drop shot conditions. If you are lucky, you may catch the tail end of the scrub a grub bite. If you will be here several days, book a half day with one of the outstanding guides that support this forum. Your son and you will learn exactly what you need to know for the trip. Hope that helps.
  12. Isn't that a lost baby red belly woodpecker? Great pic though.

    Best Depth?

Longer version of what I said earlier: Bill fishes a deeper area of the lake than I do, most of the time. Up here where I fish, the channel is 30 to 65 feet deep. Many of my topwater spots are 4 to 9 feet deep but very near a drop off into the channel. I have taken more than one good fish on top at a bluff end where the water under the bait might be channel depth, but a transition or cedar trees held the fish at the edge of the deep water. The best smallmouth I caught last summer came out of 20 feet of water on a flat point near a knob that stuck out on the flat with water only 10 feet deep. The fish was less than 20 yards from the channel of 60 feet. He blasted a super spook jr. during pinklight morning. Throw it, walk it, believe in it.

  15. As the one who invented the only successful method to deal with PWC, (Spray where they breed!), I feel qualified to comment. Despite years of suffering one outrageous behavior after another, I remain convinced the primary cause for most of these offensive acts is simple. The poor souls do not know any better. Their actions are not the result of an intent to harm/irritate/ignore/take advantage of others. They think only as far as the immediate and themselves. Most people alive today have not been raised to think of others or to consider the consequences of all they do. In a few instances, I have had the opportunity to explain the consequences of actions to the perpetrators. Whenever I was able to do so in a non-threatening, friendly way, the response has been immediate and gratifying. The trick, of course, has been to create the opportunity to explain without my temper and natural instincts to aggression taking over. I admit I am not yet good at that.
  16. Went down to the marina today and raised my boat lift. As long as I looked at those bunks, they refused to change. I will need to change the bunk set up to accept the new hull shape. Always one more thing to add to the list. New deadrise at stern looks like this with a V bow: Old boat deadrise at stern looked like this with a modV bow:
  17. PM wacky worm (Russ). He is an Elk outfitter, good guy, and always knows the skinny.
  18. good report. color me green.
  19. War Eagle also makes the black/red/black blade model in their twin spin. Killer night time bait. Twins are especially good if you intend to pump as Jason described, or to pull and fall the bait down a point or bluff. The two blade arrangement causes the bait to fall with the hook point up and ready to set.
  20. Didn't have Junior as a student but had his sister in one of my first classes at Eureka. Wonder if I can parley that into a trip?
  21. Actually two things are missing. One item is the pair of OA spots I have waiting to attach. The other is the boat to which this will be attached. The factory estimates arrival at the retailer for rigging on May 11. In the bottom left background you can see the front end of a side console version of the boat I have ordered. Also of interest: the engine already has the Titan Tiller Steer hydraulic assist attached. Once you stop moving the tiller, the system holds it in place. That way you don't fight torque. I must be patient.
  22. I once watched the 51 marina and many of its boats fly overhead. I was in the lee of Keystone dam outside of Tulsa. If things are that bad, tie the boat off and get off the dock to real land. Scary stuff, no doubt.
  23. gold lame, fuchsia, puce, and camo. The last color is for those that want to stay in the closet.
  24. down and out drum wasted walleye scumbag smallmouth slimebag sauger worthless white bass pissant perch
  25. Lots of posts in the last week on topwaters and bed fish. Don't expect that much change by the 28th. Hope you enjoy the trip.
